We have seen earlier that Jupiter has entered into its exalted position in cancer. The Sun this month is in the sign of mercury, Gemini. Gemini or mithuna is a special sign – it is ruled by mercury and therefore shows diplomacy, intelligence etc. but at the same time it is a sign that shows duality. It is young twins that are denoted by the sign of Gemini – this means that Gemini is a sign of dual-personality. Mostly we see people born of the stars in Gemini or with Lagna as Gemini will have dual-personality – they will be like one person at one time and like another person at another time. In other words, such people cannot be fully depended upon. But of course spirituality changes everything and therefore if there is spirituality denoted by planets or combination of planets in the horoscope then the person ceases to have dual- personality and will be well established in spirituality itself. As Sankara says, time plays and we undergo aging; during such time it is important to remember the ultimate goal of life of moksha. As long as this goal of moksha isn’t achieved we will ever be discontent, dissatisfied and sorrowful. This will not be the case for this one birth but for many births to come as well. Births and deaths will go on endlessly until one realizes the ultimate goal of life of moksha. But many wonder as to whether moksha is there in their horoscope – and if moksha isn’t there, then there is no possibility of attaining moksha and therefore any effort towards moksha also will be futile. But such arguments are futile and unworthy. Astrology only tells us as to what is in store for us at this particular time – fate or destiny is shown by astrology but it isn’t set by astrology. Fate or destiny can be changed by our freewill – depending on our current actions, our future will change and therefore we cannot clearly say that this is what will exactly happen. This doesn’t mean that there is no use of the science of astrology or that it is a lie – majority of people don’t even know that they can use freewill to change their fate and others who strive to change their fate aren’t able to change it. Therefore it is only some bold or courageous people who are able to change their future through freewill. But just thinking that astrology just sets the future is wrong – astrology should be used as a means of knowing our future. When we know our future we will be expecting whatever is to Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 3 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya) be expected and therefore those can be changed if we want it to be changed. Knowing that there is a hole in the front will make us walk carefully but it doesn’t mean that we will fall into the hole. We will fall into the hole if we aren’t careful – similarly if we aren’t careful about what astrology tells about us, we will fall a prey to sorrowful life. A wise person therefore will strive to know what is in store for him and then will try to change it to whatever he wants it to be – he will ultimately strive for the goal of moksha and for this he will use the science of astrology as much as possible. Therefore through this science he will be able to progress quickly towards the goal of moksha. A true astrologer is one who studies this science in order to know the future and help himself and others progress towards the ultimate goal of life of moksha. The purpose of this magazine is to help sadhakas learn the science of astrology so that they will be able to help themselves and others progress towards the goal of moksha. May we all strive to learn and implement this science of astrology so that through knowing and anticipating our future we will be able to progress quickly towards the goal of moksha – and through attaining moksha we will be able to ever rejoice in bliss here and now itself. Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 4 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya) Jyothishavidanustaana Vivaranam Recap Previously we saw that in order to become a true astrologer a person should follow seven practices. The seven practices are japa (chanting), ahara (food), vaak (words), ishacintana (remembrance of Ishwara), dhyaana (meditation), shaastraadhyayana (learning of the shaastras) and samatva darshana (vision of oneness). We saw the first practice of japa and the second practice of aahara or food. Without proper food, our mind will not be controlled and as long as mind is not under control we will not be able to think clearly. Astrology is a science that requires logic (the logic that is required in astrology is much tougher than logic we find in mathematics – if only science-fans would take a look into astrology they will realize this very easily). Logic is only proper when the mind is clear (beyond all doubts and devoid of any fluctuations and preferences). Thus it is important to eat saatvika food – saatvika food is food that involves proper salt, sourness etc. And the sign of saattvik food is that the mind will be calm (not tensed). Generally when we talk about mind being pure it is nothing but a clear mind or a mind which is devoid of so many thoughts in it. The more clear or pure the mind is, the lesser thoughts will be there (and lesser the mind will jump from one thought to another). Astrology is a science in which predictions are made by the astrologer. Though rarely the astrologer will write down predictions, most of the time he would be making predictions through words. And therefore words or proper words is required for an astrologer and therefore the author says that this is the third practice – vaak or proper words that gives word-power or saraswati in one’s tongue. zuÉihtimtvcnain t&tIy>,14, çubhahitamitavacanäni tåtéyaù|14| 14. Third is pure, good for others and less words. A sadhaka should always remember that words are very powerful and whatever is powerful has to be used with care. Firstly such powerful thing should be used only for the welfare of Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 5 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya) the world. It is very easy to destroy things but it is very tough to build things. Therefore our focus should always be on building things and not destroying things. Words have the power to destroy things and even people. One harsh word is enough to shatter the mind of another person and thereby it might even lead him to commit suicide. Therefore words should be for the welfare of others. Sweet words and words which are for the welfare of others have to go hand in hand. Such words are called hitam. Mere sweet words though might attract others will not really be helpful for them (or helping them in anyway). Therefore words have to be good for others. Even that which is good for others can be mentioned in a nice or sweet way or a harsh way. Those words which are for the good of others as well as sweet should be used by sadhakas. This would create good vibration around the astrologer and it would also develop faith for the astrologer (and the science of astrology). Lastly words can be uttered in plenty and it can be uttered very less. The author says that we should use less words. Here this doesn’t mean being silent (or the opposite of being talkative) – but it just means that we should use words as much as they are needed – neither more nor less. More words or less words will harm a person in the long run (it will also delude the listener as well – he will grasp things properly if just enough words are used and if too much words are used, then he will be distracted and will not get the gist or essence of things). Therefore words have to be used in proper amount. To sum it up, words have to be sweet, good for others and bare minimum (or as much as required). Only such words will have its effect on the listener as well as will be beneficial to the astrologer in the long run. The author says about the effect of using such good and proper words. ttae vaGzuiÏ> isiÏí,15, tato vägçuddhiù siddhiçca|15| 15. From it one gets purity and power of words. Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 6 Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya) If words are used properly then it will lead to purity of words. This means that unknowingly and naturally always good and proper words alone will be used by the astrologer. Since astrology is all about what the astrologer conveys to the listener therefore it is important that he gets purity of words.

Karthika month is the most sacred month to worship Lord Mahadeva In the month of Karthika both Lord Mahadeva and Lord Vishnu are worshipped together, as it’s the month of Sriharahari. Shlokam || Mahimnah param te parama vidusho yadyasadrishi || Pushpadantacharya praised Sri Mahadeva…. as follows, O Mahadeva! your glory is infinite. If it is unseemly to praise You when ignorant of the extent of’ Your greatness, then even the praises of Brahma and others are inadequate. Sri Mahadev in his most delightful form. The sages, the enlightened, the Siddha men, who are rich in tapahsiddhi, stand before Lord Shankara with a very humble sense of humility. For the devotee- humility is the main thing. Without it, no matter how much is done, can grace be obtained so quickly? With the sight of the eye, in front of the Mahayoga Yogi who burnt Manmadha. O Mind! what is your capacity? Mind let go of the ego and worship Mahadeva. What would it be like to bathe in seawater and interpret the ocean with those seawater? O Mahadeva! form of Shiva Shakti, I humbly ask you to give me the fortune to worship you with the flowers of words you have given me. The Brahma Deva say to the Sri Mahadeva, "Hey! Mahadeva, according to my little intellect, I praise you, the Infinite One." God, that goddess has done great penance for you and has impressed you and become your consort. What is my devotion to you who have seen such great penances? It seems to give bitter water to the mouth that drinks honey, my prayer, my devotion, Deva, Mahadeva, forgive us.

Background information: According to Hindu Astrology, every person born on the earth belongs to any of the 27 stars (Nakshtra) i.e. 27 or 28 divisions of the sky that the moon passes through its monthly cycle. Each Nakshtra is identified by its prominent stars and associated with a zodiac sign. It is believed that each constellation of the zodiac is associated with a tree. These 27 Nakshtras and 9 planets correspond to each other and each constellation of the zodiac is associated with a tree on earth. It is believed that presence of these trees creates a healthy mental, physiological and spiritual effect on people meditating near the tree. These trees are of high medicinal, social, aesthetic and economic value. The concept was conceived by the Horticulture Department of President’s Secretariat, New Delhi.
