Mr. Thomas Noble, jun. is superintendent registrar and clerk to the board of guardians; John Ray is master of the workhouse, and Elizabeth Curtis is matron . • CLEVELEY township is partly in Cockerham parish, and is already noticed at p. 522. The Duke of Hamilton is lord of the manor. The tithe rent-charge is £52., belonging to C. Standish, Esq. and Miss Jackson. HOLLETH is 5 miles K. of Garstang, and is the smallest township in the county of Lancaster. It is frequently named a hamlet, the style which it anciently bore as a member of the constablewick of Garstang. It is the property of the Duke of Hamilton, and owes suit and service to the court of the constablewick of . Its population in 1841 was returned at 35, and it contains only 359A. IR. 27P., . rated at £344. Ss. I id. The tithe rent-charge is £61., belonging to William Lamb, Esq. KIRKLAND township, which contains the parish church, already noticed, and the village of Garstang Church Town, is H mile S. W. of Garstang. The whole township, with the exception of the glebe land, belongs to Thomas Butler Cole, Esq., of Kirkland hall~ a fine old building, embosomed in wood, 2 miles S. \V. of Garstang. Kirkland was anciently possessed by a family of its own name, and afterwards by Sir John de Coupland. It .came by marriage into the Butler family, and descended to its present owner on the death of Alexander Butler, Esq. in 1819. Here is a school, endowed in 1778, by the Butler family, with £521. 19s. 7d., increased to £721. l9s. 7d. by the legacy of Mrs. Elizabeth Cromle­ holme, in 1813. The interest of these bequests is now paid by T. B. Cole, Esq. to the schoomaster, for which eleven children receive gratuitous instruc­ tion. The village of Garstang Church Town is ornamented with a stone pillar, surmounted by an entablature, which formerly contained a dial. NATEBY, 2 miles \V. of Garstang, is a township of dispersed houses, and contains, by the ordnance survey, 2086A. 3R. 9P. Its rateable value is £2482. 14s. 4d., and the tithe rent charge, £229. belonging to Chas. Stan­ dish and T. B. Cole, Esqrs. In the reign of Henry L this township is said to have been in the tenure of the family of '!'ravers, of Tulketh, one of whom, Lawrence, who lived soon after that reign; was succeeded by eleven. generations. It was possessed by this family in the reigns of Henry VIII. and Elizabeth. John Stewart, Esq. who married a daughter of the late Richard Thompson, Esq. of Nateby Hall, and the Duke of Hamilton, are the principal land owners, and the latter is lord of the manor. About 1660, Bowers House was the seat of Richard Green, gent. who married Dorothy, eldest daughter of John Brock­ holes, Esq. of Claughton. Nateby Hall, the seat and property of John Stewart, Esq. is a good mansion. The Calvinists have a small meeting house in the township, opened about sixteen years ago .
