The Half Yearly Meeting was held virtually for the first time in our history. Members who were unfamiliar with computers became digitally literate and are now arranging online webinars for their sisters. We learn something new every day, on subjects ranging from cyber-security and immunity to gender justice and communal harmony. Four webinar reports have been featured in this issue.We invite more organisers to send us their writeups for the benefit of those who could not attend.The shadow pandemic of violence against women has resonated in AIWC -Secretary General Ms. Kuljit Kaur took the daring step to visit Hathras. Her report makes horrific reading. It has strengthened our resolve to add the powerful voice of AIWC to policies and remedial measures that address this evil. Innovation has transformed our traditions. We have adapted to new ways of observing our ancient customs. Ganesh Puja was celebrated quietly at home in Maharashtra this year – and visarjan in the seaside city of Mumbai was restricted to a bucket and a mug. Accepted: November 21, 2017 They served as architects, influencing not only the socio-cultural and economic growth but also the development of urban built form. Sayajirao Gaekwad III was the Maharaja of Baroda State from 1875 Published online: January 01, 2018 to 1939, and is notably remembered for his reforms. His pursuit for education led to establishment of Maharaja Sayajirao University and the Central Library that are unique examples of Architecture and structural systems. He brought many known architects from around the world to Baroda including Keywords: Major Charles Mant, Robert Chrisholm and Charles Frederick Stevens. The proposals of the urban Asian modernity, Modernist vision, Reforms, planner Patrick Geddes led to vital changes in the urban form of the core city area. Architecture New materials and technology introduced by these architects such as use of Belgium glass in the flooring of the central library for introducing natural light were revolutionary for that period. Sayajirao’s vision for water works, legal systems, market enterprises have all been translated into unique architectural heritage of the 20th century which signifies innovations that had a lasting influence on the city’s social, economic, administrative structure as well as built form of the city and its architecture.

    UNIT – IV POLITICAL THINKERS DADABHAI NAOROJI Dadabhai Naoroji (4 September 1825 – 30 June 1917) also known as the "Grand Old Man of India" and "official Ambassador of India" was an Indian Parsi scholar, trader and politician who was a Liberal Party member of Parliament (MP) in the United Kingdom House of Commons between 1892 and 1895, and the first Asian to be a British MP, notwithstanding the Anglo- Indian MP David Ochterlony Dyce Sombre, who was disenfranchised for corruption after nine months. Naoroji was one of the founding members of the Indian National Congress. His book Poverty and Un-British Rule in India brought attention to the Indian wealth drain into Britain. In it he explained his wealth drain theory. He was also a member of the Second International along with Kautsky and Plekhanov. Dadabhai Naoroji's works in the congress are praiseworthy. In 1886, 1893, and 1906, i.e., thrice was he elected as the president of INC. In 2014, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg inaugurated the Dadabhai Naoroji Awards for services to UK-India relations. India Post depicted Naoroji on stamps in 1963, 1997 and 2017.     P: ISSN NO.: 2394-0344 E: ISSN NO.: 2455 - 0817 Vol-III * Issue- I* June - 2016 Geo-Social Structure of India and Dr. Ambedker Abstract Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb, was inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables, while also supporting the rights of women and labour. He was Independent India's first law minister and the principal architect of the Constitution of India. His later life was marked by his political activities; he became involved in campaigning and negotiations for India's independence, publishing journals advocating political rights and social freedom for lower strata of the society and contributing significantly to the establishment of the state of India. In 1956 he converted to Buddhism, initiating mass conversions. Ambedkar's legacy includes numerous memorials and depictions in popular culture. Ambedkar was born into a poor low Mahar caste, which were treated as untouchables and subjected to socio-economic discrimination. Ambedkar's ancestors had long worked for the army of the British East India Company, and his father served in the British Indian Army at the Mhow cantonment. Although they attended school, Ambedkar and other untouchable children were segregated and given little attention or help by teachers. They were not allowed to sit inside the class.     CHAPTER - III TRANSITION FROM PRE - MODERN TO MODERN BARODA STATE CHAPTER - III TRANSITION FROM PRE - MODERN TO MODERN BARODA STATE "Modernity" generally refers to the "advanced, developed, and industrial" kind of democratic, capitalist societ y; as well a society which exemplifies systematization and institutionalization. 1 Break from traditional restrains, logical thinking, use of advanced technology, establishment of modern central institutions, promotion of formal education, prevalence of law and o rder etc, generally refer to be the characteristics of modern society. However, t he process of shift from medieval to modern was not sudden but was slow and protracted through the post medieval and pre - modern phases. Pre - modernity is a condition to moder nity. It prepares a ground or base for modernity. It witnesses occurrence and reoccurrence of aspects of modern society; and also continued them on theory of trial and error till it attains the desirable form of it to be called 'modern'. The 'pre - modern' is an important phase in the process of modernization of Baroda State too. In the previous chapter discussion has been made about the basis of pre - modernity. In the early nineteenth century, the reforms brought in by Col. Walker, Resident, in the Gaekwad 's dominion can by and large be called the beginning of creation of basis for pre - modernity. The process was carried forward by succeeding Gaekwads uptil 1875. The year 1875, marked a defining feature in the history of Baroda state, as it saw the 'selectio n of a young boy' to be the head of the Gaekwad state. It also led to the appointment of Sir T Madhav Rao as the regent - dewan, who ushered the new age of modernization.
