Milne Edwards, 1837, and Atyopsis Chace, 1983, are presented, with 14 species in the former genus and one in the latter, including two new records and two new species. The identity of C. brachydactyla var. peninsularis Kemp, 1918, is clarifi ed and the taxon is redescribed in detail and regarded here as a distinct species. Caridina bruneiana Choy, 1992, and C. gracilipes De Man, 1892, are recorded for the fi rst time from this area. Specimens previously recorded as C. tonkinensis Bouvier, 1904, are shown to be different from the Vietnamese species and are described to as a new species, C. johnsoni. Another new species, C. malayensis, is also described. New distribution records are also added for two poorly known species, C.
