Derby High School Governors Glenn's daughter has been with Derby High Primary since Reception and moved up to the Senior School in September 2018. I am a Freelance Global Human Resources (HR) Director and Consultant, transformation expert and Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and CIPP. Global expertise which has been gained in international roles across different blue chip companies and sectors e.g. health, manufacturing, financial services, professional services and legal. As Chair of the Board I look forward to supporting the outstanding Derby High staff Mr G Jones team in their encouragement of all pupils to thrive academically and socially at each Chair stage of their education. I am also keen to ensure that the Board of (Safeguarding) Governors remains fully informed, has a range of relevant skills and helps to shape and support the Head’s vision for the school. One of my daughters completed her A Levels in the Sixth Form at Derby High last summer, my older daughter having left following her A Levels in the summer of 2016. Both girls have very much enjoyed the full school life Derby High offers since they joined at primary age in 2005. Together with Simon, my husband, we live in Rolleston on Dove. I am a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 20 years’ experience as a project manager in the construction industry. I currently work for the Institution of Civil Engineers, supporting graduate engineers and technicians towards professional qualifications in industry. I am particularly keen to encourage the students to consider the Mrs J P L Bullivant opportunity careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics offer. Purposes Committee) (Resources & Facilities) Foundation Governors Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1963 I have worked in most aspects of commercial financial management both in the UK and Overseas culminating in the role as Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Derby. Following retirement in 2003 I am now employed as Deputy Chair of Chesterfield Royal Hospital. My other interests include Chairman of Derbyshire Community Foundation, a Director of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, a trustee and Honorary Treasurer of the Arkwright Society as well as a Governor of Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth. Mr M R Hall (Finance & General Purposes Committee) I am married to Merryl and my two daughters both attended Derby High, my youngest daughter having recently left following her A Levels in the summer of 2017. I am an active member of St Peters Church, Littleover and envisage a strong link between the school and local churches to promote Christianity as the core guiding principle at Derby High School. I have been a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at the Royal Derby Hospital since 2004. I was elected by my consultant colleagues to represent them as deputy and chairman of the Medical Advisory and Medical staffing committees for 6 years. I have delivered post graduate lectures to theatre and ward staff on a variety of Dr. R J Faleiro topics. I give an annual lecture to undergraduate medical students at the GEM (Deputy Safeguarding) school on pain medicine. I have led and taught on adult and paediatric resuscitation (Education Committee) courses locally, nationally and internationally. Although post graduate education is my area of practice I believe that a desire for life-long learning is conceived and nurtured at school. As a member of the Board I hope to give the staff at DHS the support and encouragement to realise this vision. Co-Opted Governors I joined Rolls-Royce after graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in Applied Maths from St. Andrews University. I am a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. I am also a committee member of the Derby Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a member of the Women's Engineering Society. I am looking to bring my experience to the Governing body, to strengthen the relationship between two prestigious organisations in Derby and to help promote Ms H Barton Engineering within the School. (Resources & Facilities) (Finance & General Purposes Committee) (Primary) I am a chartered management accountant (ACMA, CGMA) with a background in charity accounting, including work at Derby Cathedral, American Church in Berlin and Derbyshire Learning & Development Consortium. Since 2005 I have been working in the private sector and am currently employed as a finance manager at Rolls-Royce in Derby. I am married to Steve and we have three children, two of whom attended Derby High prior to going to university. We attend Broadway Baptist Church and are also actively involved with our local Scout group. Dr V J Churchhouse (Education Committee) (SEND) I have lived in Derby for 25 years. Prior to retirement I was a Director of an international manufacturing business with factories across the UK and Europe. My involvement with education also includes Landau Forte College in Derby and two new academies in Tamworth, including a Sixth Form college. Derby born and bred, I now live in the South Derbyshire countryside with my husband and two daughters, both of whom have been educated at Derby High School since Reception. A graduate of the University of Sheffield, I am an experienced specialist family law solicitor, family mediator, family arbitrator, collaborative family lawyer and Deputy District Judge. I am a Partner at Geldards Law Firm in Derby where I head the Family Law Team. I have previous experience as a member of the Governing Council of the University of Derby and as a school governor at another local Derby school. Ms F. M. K. Apthorpe (Education Committee) Rarely seen without a book in my hand, I have a passionate love for literature as well as a keen interest in art, history and all things American. I am a qualified aeronautical engineer and have spent 27 years in Rolls-Royce with early career experience within Engineering, followed by extensive time managing Customer and Aftermarket accounts globally within the Civil Aerospace arena. During my career, I have programme managed major capital investment projects in both the UK and USA, and have spent time in Purchasing, Quality, Corporate Planning and most recently Strategy and Transformation. I am a full member of the Association of Programme Management and mentor graduates and early career employees within Rolls Royce. I am thoroughly looking forward to supporting Derby High School. Mrs S Sandle (Education Committee) Co-Opted Governors cont... I am married to Peter and we have two girls at Derby High School. It's a wonderful environment and they're both extremely happy there. I'm an HR Director and a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD. I have global experience in predominantly manufacturing and retail sectors including Rolls-Royce, JCB, Next and now Denby. My approach is pragmatic with a coaching, supporting and facilitating style. I'm looking forward to becoming a governor and working as part of the committed and professional team supporting the Head Teacher and her staff. I am also a member of the board of trustees for Headway Derby and I have recently become a Mental Health First Aider. I have many interests including fitness, travel Mrs D Troman and food - cooking but mostly eating! (Resources & Facilities) I am currently the Head of Senior School of an HMC and GSA school in Shropshire. I have extensive experience of all aspects of school life and previous roles have included Deputy Head (Academic) and Housemistress. I continue to teach a reduced timetable of Philosophy and Religious Studies and I am a serving Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate. I am looking forward to supporting Derby High School in my role as a Governor. Miss S Hughes (Education Committee) I live in Allestree with my husband, daughter, two cats and Labrador. I have always lived in Derby, I graduated from the Sheffield Hallam University with a Law Degree and qualified as a solicitor in 2006. I am an experienced Commercial Litigator and specialise in debt recovery. I am also the head of Business Development for Smith Partnership, where I am a Partner. Having recently become a parent, my free time is spent with my daughter and husband, usually walking around the Derbyshire countryside. I have a love for baking and dream of one day being on Masterchef! Ms C Twells (Resources & Facilities) The Bishop’s Representative I joined the Derby High Board of Governors in 2014. I was appointed Vicar to St Peter's, Littleover, in September 2013, having previously served as Rector to Sawley and Curate to Ockbrook with Borrowash. I am a Derby girl, my mother was Head Girl at Derby High in 1958.
