He produced his magnificent arbor for Melbourne Hall, ultra-ornate gates outside Derby Cathedral & the Sir John Port Almshouses in Etwall and Derby Silk Mill, and the incredible rood screen in the Cathedral. Ronald Binge born in Derby in 1910, educated at Derby School of Music. During WW11 he served in the RAF, after which Mantovani offered him the job of arranging and composing for his new orchestra. His’s best-known compositions are Elizabethan Serenade and Sailing By, the latter introducing the late-night Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4.
