    Types of Dance Styles International Standard Ballroom Dances Ballroom Dance: Ballroom dancing is one of the most entertaining and elite styles of dancing. In the earlier days, ballroom dancewas only for the privileged class of people, the socialites if you must. This style of dancing with a partner, originated in Germany, but is now a popular act followed in varied dance styles. Today, the popularity of ballroom dance is evident, given the innumerable shows and competitions worldwide that revere dance, in all its form. This dance includes many other styles sub-categorized under this. There are many dance techniques that have been developed especially in America. The International Standard recognizes around 10 styles that belong to the category of ballroom dancing, whereas the American style has few forms that are different from those included under the International Standard. Tango: It definitely does take two to tango and this dance also belongs to the American Style category. Like all ballroom dancers, the male has to lead the female partner. The choreography of this dance is what sets it apart from other styles, varying between the International Standard, and that which is American. Waltz: The waltz is danced to melodic, slow music and is an equally beautiful dance form. The waltz is a graceful form of dance, that requires fluidity and delicate movement. When danced by the International Standard norms, this dance is performed more closely towards each other as compared to the American Style. Foxtrot: Foxtrot, as a dance style, gives a dancer flexibility to combine slow and fast dance steps together.

    ORISSA REFERENCE ANNUAL - 2005 ODISSI DANCE Photo Courtesy : Introduction : KNM Foundation, BBSR Odissi dance got its recognition as a classical dance, after Bharat Natyam, Kathak & Kathakali in the year 1958, although it had a glorious past. The temple like Konark have kept alive this ancient forms of dance in the stone-carved damsels with their unique lusture, posture and gesture. In the temple of Lord Jagannath it is the devadasis, who were performing this dance regularly before Lord Jagannath, the Lord of the Universe. After the introduction of the Gita Govinda, the love theme of Lordess Radha and Lord Krishna, the devadasis performed abhinaya with different Bhavas & Rasas. The Gotipua system of dance was performed by young boys dressed as girls. During the period of Ray Ramananda, the Governor of Raj Mahendri the Gotipua style was kept alive and attained popularity. The different items of the Odissi dance style are Mangalacharan, Batu Nrutya or Sthayi Nrutya, Pallavi, Abhinaya & Mokhya. Starting from Mangalacharan, it ends in Mokhya. The songs are based upon the writings of poets who adored Lordess Radha and Krishna, as their ISTHADEVA & DEVIS, above all KRUSHNA LILA or ŎRASALILAŏ are Banamali, Upendra Bhanja, Kabi Surya Baladev Rath, Gopal Krishna, Jayadev & Vidagdha Kavi Abhimanyu Samant Singhar.     The THREE’S A CROWD exhibition covers areas ranging from Hong Kong to Slavic vixa parties. It looks at modern-day streets and dance floors, examining how – through their physical presence in the public space – bodies create temporary communities, how they transform the old reality and create new conditions. And how many people does it take to make a crowd. The autonomous, affect-driven and confusing social body is a dynamic 19th-century construct that stands in opposition to the concepts of capitalist productivity, rationalism, and social order. It is more of a manifestation of social dis- order: the crowd as a horde, the crowd as a swarm. But it happens that three is already a crowd. The club culture remembers cases of criminalizing the rhythmic movement of at least three people dancing to the music based on repetitive beats. We also remember this pandemic year’s spring and autumn events, when the hearts of the Polish police beat faster at the sight of crowds of three and five people. Bodies always function in relation to other bodies. To have no body is to be nobody. Bodies shape social life in the public space through movement and stillness, gath- ering and distraction. Also by absence. Regardless of whether it is a grassroots form of bodily (dis)organization, self-cho- reographed protests, improvised social dances, artistic, activist or artivist actions, bodies become a field of social and political struggle. O’Shea, Chair This dissertation presents a critical examination of dance and multiple movements across the Coromandel in a pivotal period: the long eighteenth century. On the eve of British colonialism, this period was one of profound political and economic shifts; new princely states and ruling elite defined themselves in the wake of Mughal expansion and decline, weakening Nayak states in the south, the emergence of several European trading companies as political stakeholders and a series of fiscal crises. In the midst of this rapidly changing landscape, new performance paradigms emerged defined by hybrid repertoires, focus on structure and contingent relationships to space and place – giving rise to what we understand today as classical south Indian dance. Far from stable or isolated tradition fixed in space and place, I argue that dance as choreographic ii practice, theorization and representation were central to the negotiation of changing geopolitics, urban milieus and individual mobility.

It used to be the group dances participated by the one and all. Hence gradually the Folk dances and Tribal dances started arriving. Almost every state is having its own style of Folk Dances. This art form combines dance, music, drama, instrumental music, facial and body makeup, martial art and ritualistic functions, composed in a harmonizing manner.Tribal Dances in India are inspired by the tribal folklore. Each ethnic group has its own distinct combination of myths, legends, tales, proverbs, riddles, ballads, folk songs, folk dance, and folkmusic. India has a number of classical Indian dance forms, each of which can be traced to different parts of the country.

    SATAN’S TRANCE MEDIA & MAGIC FINAL EXAM https://vimeo.com/55339082 COLLEEN VIANA 12/11/12 Sensation can be defined as the mediation of body and world. It enforces and impacts a premonition of what our bodies experience upon some type of contact. Thus, it allows the body to be opened up to other forces and becomings that affirm in and as the future. This concept, posed by Elizabeth Grosz in Chaos, Territory, Art: Deleuze and the Framing of the Earth, is quite eminent in the subject of magic. The quandry of it as the mediation of object and experience, or science and religion, is what drew me to this video experimentation of the mediations created by media in occult and horror film. While sensation is, perhaps, the only state of consciousness that is impossible to scientifically measure, as are the limits of magic, I find it more valuable to visually see how it can be created/manipulated. The juxtaposition of horror film/television clips, and electronic music (with cosmological and haunting characteristics), and documentary footage from raves/electronic music festivals (that possess qualities of the occult) is experimented in this project. The latter adds an extra layer to this research, paralleling a cultural music phenomenon with the magical representations and rites defined by Mauss. With these media devices combined, I hope to embody this sensory experience that Grosz explains “as the contraction of vibrations...the forces of becoming-other” (Grosz, 80-1). Essentially, how can we experience Hollywood-defined magic and the magic associated with music and rave culture differently? In this video montage, I aim to highlight the three components of magic presented in Mauss’ A General Theory of Magic, in relation to the electronic dance music (EDM) culture.

    Garage House Music whats up with that Future funk is a sample-based advancement of Nu-disco which formed out of the Vaporwave scene and genre in the early 2010s. It tends to be more energetic than vaporwave, including elements of French Home, Synth Funk, and making use of Vaporwave modifying techniques. A style coming from the mid- 2010s, often explained as a blend of UK garage and deep home with other elements and strategies from EDM, popularized in late 2014 into 2015, typically mixes deep/metallic/sax hooks with heavy drops somewhat like the ones discovered in future garage. One of the very first house categories with origins embeded in New York and New Jersey. It was named after the Paradise Garage bar in New york city that operated from 1977 to 1987 under the prominent resident DJ Larry Levan. Garage house established along with Chicago home and the outcome was home music sharing its resemblances, affecting each other. One contrast from Chicago house was that the vocals in garage house drew stronger impacts from gospel. Noteworthy examples consist of Adeva and Tony Humphries. Kristine W is an example of a musician involved with garage house outside the genre's origin of birth. Also understood as G-house, it includes very little 808 and 909 drum machine-driven tracks and often sexually explicit lyrics. See likewise: ghettotech, juke house, footwork. It integrates components of Chicago's ghetto house with electro, Detroit techno, Miami bass and UK garage. It includes four-on-the-floor rhythms and is normally faster than a lot of other dance music categories, at approximately 145 to 160 BPM.

    Advanced Jazz Dance History DEFINITION: Jazz dance is identifiable by its syncopated rhythms (accenting the offbeat) and isolated moving body parts. Jazz styles include movements that are sharp or smooth, fast or slow, exaggerated or subtle. BRIEF HISTORY: Jazz dance reflects the American historical events, cultural changes, ethnic influences and especially the evolution of music and social dances. The essence of jazz dance is its bond to jazz music. Jazz dance was born out of the combination of African and European influences. When the African slaves were brought to America, with them came the syncopated rhythms that were inherent among African folk songs and dances. As some of the white plantation owners observed and participated in the songs and dances, they added new ideas and styles to the dance steps which were influenced from folk dances from their European homelands. The popularity of jazz grew out of the plantation and into traveling entertaining groups called minstrel shows. During the Roaring Twenties, dance halls became a popular hangout for the young and spirited. In the 1930’s, Blues became the new sound of the 1930’s and was heard in great symphonic jazz orchestras such as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. This was the swing era, and dance interpreted the energy with the vigorous lindy hop, jitterbug and boogie woogie dances. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers starred in films that promoted jazz. Ballroom dance evolved into its own distinct dance form. In the 1940's, with the onset of World War II, the popularity of jazz dance enjoyed in the dance halls diminished.
