Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Which Is Probably the Most Ambitious and Technically Demanding Show the Company Has Produced 6th - 10th November 2018 Evenings 7.30pm Saturday/Wednesday matinees 2.00pm St Albans Musical Theatre Company would like to welcome you to this performance of Fantasmagorical!!Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which is probably the most ambitious and technically demanding show the company has produced. There is an adage in the theatre that you never work with children and animals, well this time we’ve added a flying car as well! We are delighted to welcome back Julia Rufey as Director, who directed our very successful production of ‘Annie’ in 2014. Peter Allanson joins us for the first time as our Musical Director and the directorial team is completed by our talented Andrea Campusano, who as choreographer has certainly put the cast through their paces. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a fantastic musical adventure with an out- of-this-world magical car crossing lands and seas and has been a ‘Truly audio Scrumptious’ show to work on with our very talented cast of children Sound & Lighting for Theatre, Music & Corporate Events and adults. So, get ready to fly away for some amazing stage spectacle and unforgettable songs as we welcome Chitty to the Alban Arena. In the movie, the musical number ‘Toot Sweets’ took three weeks to film and involved RECENT WORK INCLUDES: 38 dancers, 40 singers, 85 musicians and 100 dogs. Elise is a member of two vocal trios The Polka Dots (1940s trio) and The Estrellas (1960s trio) and performs with them across the country. However, the best part Elise has got this year is becoming Mrs Betts, Michael’s wife! It’s only right that after the 100th year of this local treasure, our first season back should be filled with national ones, so we’re delighted to be welcoming cricketing legend Sir Geoffrey Boycott, much-loved music star Tony Christie and the fantastically funny Jasper Carrott amongst a host of brilliant acts this autumn.     Fast Facts and Fun Trivia ● The original book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car, published in 1964 with illustrations by John Burningham, was based on bedtime stories Ian Fleming told to his son, Caspar. ● The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was first published as three separate books. ● Ian Fleming met Count Louis Zborowski when he was a schoolboy. ● The name and look of the car were taken from a series of racing cars built by Count Louis Zborowski in the early 1920s. ● The book inspired a 1968 movie written by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes, with songs by the Sherman brothers. It was directed by Ken Hughes and produced by Albert R. Broccoli, who was also a producer of the James Bond movies. It starred Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts and Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious. ● The role of Truly Scrumptious was reportedly offered to Julie Andrews, who had starred alongside Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, but Andrews, apparently feeling that the part was too close to the Poppins mold, declined. ● The movie’s title song was nominated for an Academy Award. ● Six versions of the car were built for the movie, and many replicas have been produced since.
