The Birds Are Back with a Brand New Series of Birds of a Feather, Premiering on Uktv from July 6
Tuesday June 24, 2014 THE BIRDS ARE BACK WITH A BRAND NEW SERIES OF BIRDS OF A FEATHER, PREMIERING ON UKTV FROM JULY 6 Sixteen years after the show ended, Chigwell’s most famous daughters are back with the revival of 90s hit comedy series, Birds of a Feather premiering in Australia on UKTV from July 6. The new series (8 x 30’) has been a massive ratings hit in the UK, attracting audiences of up to 9.5 million making the 2014 series the most successful comedy launch for ITV in over a decade. Another series has been commissioned. The revival offers fans a dose of nostalgia with all three original actresses - Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph reprising their roles as the original Essex girls. Also making a comeback are original writers Laurence Marks, Maurice Gran, Gary Lawson and John Phelps who teamed up to write the new eight-part series. As the series begins, sisters Sharon and Tracey are living separate lives, and Dorien has seemingly flown off into the sunset to live a jestetting life as a writer of a racy novel, “Sixty Shades of Green”. Meanwhile Tracey’s marriage to former robber Darryl petered out years ago and she has since remarried and got divorced again… but she still lives in relative comfort in Essex’s legendary Chigwell with pampered teenage son Travis. She gets by with a Telesales job, but times aren’t easy and she misses her older son Garth (Matt Willis), who’s been living in Australia. Meanwhile Sharon scrapes a minimum wage in “World of Quid”, Essex’s leading “everything’s a pound” chain, and is as chippy as ever. -

Gender Parity: Female Is the What PR Means to Them, As Individuals and from Their Agency Or Company’S Perspective New F-Word Too?
Shout! Out Spring / Summer 2019 News, features and tips about Broadcast PR Embracing the dark side of PR By Catherine Bayfield Can we still call PR “the dark art”? It’s been described by some journalists as “the dark art” and by disgruntled PR professionals as an industry struggling to adjust; the latter claim it’s a sector which has many health issues and doesn’t like to self- diagnose. It’s always good to take a peek behindthe PR curtain but as a PR practitioner I’m disappointed to see so much negativity and confusion about who we are and what we do. Earlier this year my co-founder at Shout! Communications, Keren Haynes, appeared on The Media Show on Radio 4 to talk about the art of public relations. There was a mixed response and the programme created a Twitter storm. Leaders of the PRCA and CIPR described the discussion as “shockingly inaccurate”, P&O Cruises' flagship Britannia “wholly unfair” and “somewhat naive”. A member of the Shout! Communications team filming on behalf of Founders Forum in Tel Aviv, Israel. But surely debate is good and allows communications professionals to identify Gender parity: Female is the what PR means to them, as individuals and from their agency or company’s perspective new F-word too? The gender pay gap, HeForShe and #MeToo have This sentiment is especially incumbent on the BBC, pushed gender parity to the forefront of 21st which is publicly owned. Jonathan Munro, Head of century societal changes. Broadcast by definition BBC Newsgathering, emphatically endorses this. -

Stand-Up Comedy and Everyday Life: Post-war British Comedy and the Subversive Strain. Christopher Ritchie. Goldsmiths College, London, Ph. D Drama, 1998. - ME Ia- AM GOLDSMITHS 87 0079879 6 Abstract. This thesis "examinee,,, its to life , . stand-up comedy and relation everyday and presents a model of everyday life in the commodity society. It seeks to define stand up comedy and how it works as a performance mode and will offer a definition of the stand-up comedian. It will examine how jokes reflect opinions and attitudes within everyday life and how they can communicate negative cultural myths, stereotypes and ideologies but also reach beyond the merely absurd and comical to present authentic moments that enable us to locate the truth about ourselves. The thesis seeks to locate a stand-up comedy that enables us to understand ourselves in relation to life in the commodity society. The thesis traces a subversive lineage through post-Second World War comedy from The Goon Show through the satirists of the 1960s and Monty Pylhon's Flying Circus to Alternative Comedy and stand-up comedians in the present day. The 'Alternative Comedy moment' between 1979 and 1981 is central to the thesis as is the relation to American stand-up comedy, Punk and the rise of reactionary humour in Britain. Alternative Comedy is identified and placed in a social, political and counter-cultural context. The achievements and failures of this comedy will be discussed with particular focus on the redefinition of the role of women and sexual politics in stand-up comedy and the creation of a thriving London cabaret and comedy scene. -
