Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam, aka Akon is an R & B singer and producer US,-he was born in Dakar, Senegal. He is the son of Mor Thiam, a renowned jazz musician and percussionist.

He spent his first seven years in Senegal before leaving to live in the United States. Akon has had a difficult childhood in New Jersey, marked by many problems which led to the prison.

After regaining his freedom, Akon began writing and composing songs. Highly influenced by a father fond of music and specifically percussion, he began to play before discovering the rhythms of rap and hip-hop.

It was noticed by the Street Records Corporation (SRC Records) at Universal. In 2004, Akon released Trouble, his debut album where there are sounds of urban music, Groove, Hip Hop, Rap and Soul which the artist infuses African air of authenticity and original.

Titles Locked Up, Belly Dancer Ghetto or conquer the public and give proof of his talent. He reached into the top 10 around the world and is becoming the new star of Soul and R & B.

On November 14, 2006, Akon released a second album Konvicted that displays the most influential artists like Brick & Lace, Snoop Dogg, Styles P and Eminem. The latter was featured on the song Smack That song output before the hard to promote itself. Smack That was a huge success and paved the way for the success of the second album from Akon.

Powered by this triumph, the artist took advantage and created his Konvict label whose name is taken from his latest album. This label is designed to support artists who have just left prison.

He created his own clothing label, Last United, and his line of diamonds.

Akon has collaborated with the former singer of No Doubt, Gwen Stefani to the song The Sweet Escape, and has produced some of the new album from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Akon now more interested in cinema. He recently said he would turn a movie titled Illegal Alien film of his life.
