Mia Hamm 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist

Mia Hamm is widely recognized as the world’s best all-around wom- en’s soccer player. In Atlanta at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and in Athens in 2004, she proved it by leading the U.S. Women’s team to the Gold Medal. And in the 1999 Women’s World Cup, the USA took home the championship in front of 40 million viewers in the U.S. alone. Mia was the youngest player ever (age 15) to play for the U.S. National Team and was a member until her retirement in Decem- ber of 2004. Her records in goals, MVP awards and overall perfor- mance put her at the top of the sport. As Phil Knight, Chairman of Nike says “I we’ve had three athletes who just played at a level that added a new dimension to their games. That’s been Michael Jor- dan, in basketball, and in some ways Mia Hamm in women’s soccer and Tiger Woods in golf.” In April of 1999, Nike named the largest building on its corporate campus after Mia.

Her awards and accomplishments only tell part of the story of this remarkable athlete; she gives much of her precious free time to chari- table causes and strives, in anything she does, to promote women’s athletics, the sport of soccer, and a feeling of confidence and sense of purpose in young people. Poised, articulate and honest, Mia is a pioneer in her sport and a role model for athletes and fans alike who believe in equal opportunity, Title IX legislation, and the love of the game. The author of an inspirational and instructional book titled Go For The Goal: A Champions Guide to Winning in Soccer and Life, and most recently Winners Never Quit! for children, Mia Hamm has emerged as one of the Game’s true examples for people of all ages who have a dream and go for it.

Mark Burnett Producer of Survivor, The Apprentice and The Contender

The genius behind the wildly popular Survivor and Apprentice series and a driving force behind reality television, Mark Burnett is the hottest producer in Hollywood. He has a long history of executive producing Emmy-nominated adventure television in international locations. His entrepreneurial spirit has helped pioneer the success of the reality ‘unscripted’ drama series and bring it to mainstream audiences worldwide. What most people don’t know is that Burnett has his own survival story to tell, and it’s every bit as riveting as the show. A decade ago, he was selling t-shirts on the beach of southern California. But through a combination of inspiration, determination and sheer nerve he transformed his life, went on to produce Emmy-winning extreme sports program, and of course, created the most popular series on the air today.
