XVI a dead spot of light... 1 Introduction Another years draws towards its end and I am still sitting here, being unable to write with ten fingers. I am not bad at typing, but the level in which I am actually able to do this could definitely be better. Anyway, not all interviews made it into this edition, but I am somewhat satisfied about the reviews that did. 'Soizu' has finally been deal with, 'Slaughter of the Innocents' / 'Obscure Oath' split – delayed beyond any sane comprehension – appears here as well, 'I, Lord Aveu' is also able to read his review now and so is 'Gamardah Fungus'. The 'Vahrzaw' one was a review request from the Metal Archives board and I hope the person is satisfied with the result. Well, there is enough material available for the next version already; in terms of reviews as well as interviews. Indeed, I had the chance to stumble over a considerable amount of them in the last few weeks. The focus is less metal again and more in the experimental region. What struck me though is the large amount of releases which I had not written on and the old reviews that need some polishing. The one on Epoch would be one example. It had been partially re-written, extended and hopefully with less errors than before. More of this type will be added to future edition of this magazine. Requests of interviews and reviews are still possible … I am always open to get in touch with new bands and artists. Also from non-metal genres.

This is overall, an album that is a masterpiece in its genre and definitely not something that can be called "worthless noise" by people who do not exactly know extreme metal all that well.

Formed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Norwegian black metal seemed at odds with many of the stereotypes of Norway. Yet, Norway is often perceived as wealthy with sublime natural beauty and high levels of equality. Since the late 1990s, Norwegian black metal has increasingly received positive recognition and support from Norwegian government agencies and cultural institutions who have deemed this style of music a cultural product of Norway. Prof. József Mezei Abstract: The music industry is undergoing an extensive transformation as a result of growth in streaming data and various AI technologies, which allow for more sophisticated marketing and sales methods. Since consumption patterns vary by different factors such as genre and engagement, each customer segment needs to be targeted uniquely for maximal efficiency. A challenge in this genre-based segmentation method lies in today’s large music databases and their maintenance, which have shown to require exhausting and time-consuming work. This has led to automatic music genre classification (AMGC) becoming the most common area of research within the growing field of music information retrieval (MIR). A large portion of previous research has been shown to suffer from serious integrity issues. The purpose of this study is to re-evaluate the current state of applying machine learning for the task of AMGC. Low-level features are derived from audio signals to form a custom-made data set consisting of five subgenres of heavy metal music. Different parameter sets and learning algorithms are weighted against each other to derive insights into the success factors. The results suggest that admirable results can be achieved even with fuzzy subgenres, but that a larger number of high-quality features are needed to further extend the accuracy for reliable real-life applications.

Cepheide Is a Relatively New Band. How Did It All Started Out?
CEPHEIDE Paris-based atmospheric black metal band Cepheide may not be very well known to many of you, although they deserve a lot more attention based on their latest output “Saudade”. Instead of reading further, I suggest the legions of trve Satanic black metal warriors to clean up their spikes and bullet belts because the four piece does not connect with this vision and philosophy. I talked with front man/guitarist Gaetan (G), bass player Hugo (H) and guitarist François. (JOKKE) Hi guys! Cepheide is a relatively new band. How did it all started out? G: Cepheide started in 2013, I just moved to Paris and was looking forward to start a band that would be a continuation of my solo project, but by adding a human part that a solo project can't offer. Even though the line-up changed often from “De silence et de suie” to “Saudade”, the project keeps a musical coherence, and was enriched by the people who participated in the project. A Cepheid is a type of star that pulsates radially, varying in both diameter and temperature and producing changes in brightness with a well-defined stable period and amplitude. I think it’s a very suiting band name for the style of music you play. Are you heavily inspired by the universe and its mysteries? G: A Cepheid is also like a guiding star, just like the north star for instance. I found this parallel interesting, between the name of these stars, and what music can be in our daily lives, but also in the necessity of building ourselves based on landmarks we all have.
