't7 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Special Olympics Michigan is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide year-round sports training and sports competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities; and WHEREAS, Special Olympics Michigan’s headquarters and the State Summer Games have been a part of the Mount Pleasant community since 1972, and as such, is celebrating this 50th year milestone; and WHEREAS, Special Olympics athletes have enriched the lives of thousands of volunteers from the Mount Pleasant area and CMU community who have donated their time and energy to help the athletes experience the joy and excitement of athletic competition; and WHEREAS, Special Olympics Michigan positively impacts the lives of its athletes and family members, provides opportunities for inclusion, health screening and lifelong fitness, and WHEREAS, The City of Mount Pleasant is proud to be the home of Special Olympics Michigan, an organization that inspires and enriches the lives of so many people; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Allison Quast Lents, Mayor of the City of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 31 through June 2, 2018 to be SPECIAL OLYMPICS MICHIGAN WEEK in Mount Pleasant, and extend best wishes for continued success to Special Olympics Michigan, the volunteers, and particularly the athletes! Mike Dunham Neighborhood Resource Unit DATE: May 15, 2018 SUBJECT: Neighborhood Mini Grant Award In 1999, the City received a 2% grant to establish an endowment fund for the purpose of strengthening capacity within neighborhoods. This fund has permitted the City to award mini grants of $500 or less to several different neighborhoods. The City has received a request from the South West Association of Neighbors to fund their neighborhood newsletter and support three block parties and a neighborhood garden walk. This is the second mini-grant award of 2018. Requested Action: The Mayor present the $500 mini grant check to the South West Association of Neighbors at the May 29, 2018 City Commission meeting. The report will be available for viewing via the City’s website at www.mt-pleasant.org under the “City Updates” on Friday, May 25. A printed copy of this report will be available to City Commissioners at the meeting Tuesday, May 29 for those who would like a paper copy.
