iTUNES & APP STORE BASICS Friday, December 6, 2019 ACCOUNTS, APPLE ID & PASSWORDS Today we will review Apple ID / iTunes / App Store / iBooks & iCloud accounts - Strongly recommended to use same information. We will cover the iTunes Store and the App Store in more detail later, so at this point, we will take a look at the Apple ID and where it is used in general. What is an Apple ID? Simply put, an Apple ID is a user name you use to do everything with Apple… Usually, when you purchase an Apple device at the Apple Store, they will help you get the device set up, with registration and an Apple ID, before you leave the store. An Advantage… Creating an account for services such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, requires or creates an Apple ID. You don’t have to create a separate user ID for each new service. A single Apple ID can be used to access all other Apple services. You may already have an Apple ID, and you only need one for everything you do with Apple. If you aren't sure, there are couple of quick ways to check. DEMO: Go to Settings/iTunes & App Store Note at the top right side of your screen, your Apple ID is shown. Go back to settings, then to iCloud Note at the top right your iCloud ID is shown. This may be different than your Apple ID. If neither of these show your Apple ID (or you don’t yet have one), go to the My Apple ID site as we will do now. DEMO: go to your home screen (Home Button). Click on Safari, and type into the search box (top) appleid.apple.com and click Go. (you may find that as you type this in, it will show up as a popular choice in the list below, and you can select it without finishing the typing.) Find your Apple ID. As you can see, we have several action options here, as well as access to a lot of valuable help and information about Apple IDs. On the right side of the screen you will see a large blue button labelled, “Manage your Apple ID”. Notice the description… DEMO: Touch the “Manage your Apple ID” button. You will now see the “My Apple ID” screen, which invites you to sign-in, to make any desired changes to your account, or to remind yourself of what you put in there in the first place. Note that there are also options to use if you forgot your Apple ID name (often your primary email address), or if you just forgot your password. If you need one of these options, just click on the link, and you will be guided through the entire process. If you don't have an Apple ID, you can also create one by clicking on the blue link on the left. DEMO: Click on the blue arrow at the top left corner of your screen, to go back one page. (If you have used the Home button by mistake, you may select Safari again, and it should return you to where you were). You are now back on your “My Apple ID” page. Notice The other large blue button on the right labelled, “Create an Apple ID”. DEMO: Click on the button for a second… and we’ll see the things that Apple will ask for in creating your Apple ID. DEMO: Click the Page Back Button Note there is also a link in blue, called “Find my Apple ID”. You can click on it if you like, but we won’t spend time on it here. It is another way for you to recover your account information. Again, this is another simple, fully guided process. This is basically the easiest way to create or manage your Apple ID. You can also create one by signing up for an Apple service (such as at the iTunes Store or iCloud). You should use your primary email address as your Apple ID. Remember… You do not need to create a separate Apple ID for each Apple service. A single Apple ID can be used to access all other Apple services. Just a note about all the icons you see in the bottom left of your screen. These represent the Apple Apps that require an Apple ID to use. iCloud, iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, Game Centre, The Apple Store, iMessage, and FaceTime. And one last point of interest for you on this page… Note the blue link at the left centre of the page labelled, “ Learn more about Apple ID”. DEMO: Click on the link. Apple has a wealth of help and knowledge here, as they do for most areas you would like to learn about. As you surf these databases, you may find some material you want to keep, or read a hard copy of. They are all printable.
