2012 Spring Short Course Far Western Championships Updates 2012 Spring Short Course Far Western Championships Updates 2012 Spring Short Course FW Championships was held March 29 to April 1 at Morgan Hill. Far Western Championship was started at 1925. It has provided one of fastest and most prestigious venues for USA Swimming. Olympic and World Champions, including Michael Phelps, Janet Evans, Pablo Morales, Summer Sanders, Natalie Coughlin and Missy Franklin, have competed in this fast taper meet as age groupers. There were over 1700 swimmers with 175 teams from 11 states cross United State and Canada travel to San Francisco bay area to compete this short course FW championship. CDST had total of 12 swimmers participated in individual and relay events and ranked number 33 out of 175 teams. HIGHLIGHTS Kevin Cui - swam excellent at this FW meet. He placed second in 50Y breaststroke, third in 100Y breaststroke, fourth in 200Y breaststroke, fifth in 100Y IM, and eighth in 50Y Butterfly in Boys 11-12 Age Group. Andrew Lou – swam great with 8 th place finish in 100Y freestyle in Boys 13-14 Age Group. Jessica He – made final in 100Y IM in Girls 11-12 Age Group. Kevin Cui, Matthew Wang, Alex Zhou, and Andrew Nguyen – finished sixth in 200 freestyle relay, ninth in 200 medley relay, and tenth in 400 freestyle relay in Boys 11-12 Age Group. MEET RESULTS v 10 & Under Age Group Two swimmers have qualified for FW time standards in boys 10 and Under Age Group but only Jasper Wu entered the meet. He swam personal best time in 50Y freestyle. Jasper Wu, Michael Wang, Phillip Nguyen, and James He swam great at boys 10 & Under 200 medley relay (2:24.41) and 200 freestyle relay (2:04.39) all with personal best time splits. v 11-12 Age Group Jessica He was the only girl from CDST entered this FW meet. She made final in 100Y IM with her personal best time finish. She swam 1:03.56 at Final and finished 10th place. We had three boys participating in individual events for boys 11-12 Age Group: Kevin Cui, Matthew Wang, and Alex Zhou. Kevin Cui participated all four days in this meet. He performed excellent at the meet with one 2nd place, one 3rd places, one 4th places, one 5th places and one 8th places, total five individual medals. All have been his personal best times. Especially on his 50, he swam 31.32 in the Final and got 2nd place. Alex Zhou participated all four days in this meets. He also swam great at the meet with personal best time for all events he swam. He swam 400Y IM and 200Y Butterfly in one day, and got 5:03.57 in 400Y IM which dropped 7 seconds from his former best time. Matthew Wang Swam for three days in this meet, and did wonderfully. He got 25.99 in his individual 50Y Freestyle and 25.88 in 200Y Freestyle Relay. Kevin Cui, Matthew Wang, Alex Zhou, and Andrew Nguyen swam great in boys 10-11 age group relay events, 400 FR with 10 th place (3:49.90), 200 MR with 9 th place (1:58.63), 200 FR with 6 th place finish (1:45.48). Andrew Nguyen made his first FW time standard in 50Y backstroke (31.62) at start in 200 MR for boys 11-12 Age Group. Congratulations! v 13-14 Age Group Andrew Lou swam for four days in the meet. He has competed in boys 13-14 Age Group finish 8th place in 100Y freestyle (50.64) in Final and he swam 50.08 in the prelim which is his personal best. Moreover, he got his best time in 50Y, 200Y, 500Y Freestyle, and 100Y, 200Y breaststroke. v 15-16 Age Group Michael Sui and Matthew Lee have competed in boys 15-16 Age Group. Although busy with their high school swimming season, they still showed nice technique and tough mind in their events. Congratulations to all swimmers for their great performances at the meet. We had fun and great experience. .
