There seems to be so much more of it these days. The grass verges of Swaledale are covered - the more you look for it the more you see. So I decided at the beginning of the year to see how much I could collect. My first rubbish ramble was from to Gunnerside bridge and back, only half a mile but 5 kg collected. Next Satron to Ivelet Bridge road, another 5 kg. (I weigh each bag.) I’ve done 3 more rambles, two near Stainton Lane junction - particularly bad with 11kg. (2 days later there was more rubbish thrown out.) My latest collection was round Crackpot junction - 4 kg. Most of the rubbish is bottles and I’m going to document and weigh the cans which I try to recycle; rubbish for the whole year and I’ll let MacDonald’s wrappers, Costa coffee you know who much I collect at the end cups and some farm waste.
