Colloquium on United States History A W S N A High School Research Project May 2004 Work in Progress Research Project #8 Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation’s most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson’s most enduring monument. Here, in ex- alted and unforgettable phrases, Jefferson expressed the convictions in the minds and hearts of the American people. The political philosophy of the declaration was not new; its ideals of individual liberty had already been expressed by John Locke and the continental philosophers. Included in the study are: Steiner's basic philosophical concepts relating to music and music education; Steiner's rationale for aesthetic and music education; a description of the Waldorf approach to music teaching; results of a questionnaire sent to twenty-three Waldorf Schools in North America; a comparison of Steiner's key ideas on music education with those of Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze. -

Fundamental and (For more information on Steiner and for guidance on using this catalogue, see p. 47.) Introductory Works Why Rudolf Steiner Press? The publishing landscape is changing fast. In the case of Rudolf Steiner, some of his key works are now in the public domain, whilst a lot of his material can be read freely online. So, why buy books by Rudolf Steiner from Rudolf Steiner Press or SteinerBooks (our colleagues in the US, whose titles we distribute)? Well, apart from the obvious – for the love of reading and study – there are a number of good reasons: – In contrast to the publishers of cheap facsimiles of very old translations of Steiner’s work, we continually invest in re-translating, editing and improving our editions. More importantly, we commission translations of previously unpublished works (a significant portion of Steiner’s lectures and some books are still unavailable in English). See particularly the Collected Works series on pages 4-7. – Our ebooks are carefully checked and proofread for accuracy, and converted into all formats for all platforms. We have a burgeoning programme, with some 160 ebooks currently in print (available via usual retail outlets). – Our translations are officially authorised by Rudolf Steiner’s estate in Dornach, Switzerland, to whom we pay royalties on sales (thus supporting their critical work). – As a company dedicated to anthroposophy, we care passionately about the content of our books.
