In 2015, Menasha Corporation Foundation committed $100,000, payable over five years, toward the construction of a cancer center in northeast Wisconsin. The ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center opened in January 2016 in Appleton, Wis., and provides comprehensive cancer treatments and related services for individuals with cancer and their families. Art Therapy Program Supports Patients in Chicago

When Mike Wons’ late son, Jake, was treated at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, it was not uncommon for Mike, an employee of Menasha Corporation, and his family to spend days at a time there. Despite going through chemotherapy, Jake always looked forward to participating in art therapy, and he would flash his winning smile when the art therapist came by. The hospital’s art therapist did fun art projects with Jake that helped him to cope with the challenges of being in a hospital and to lessen his stress and anxiety. As a memorial to Jake, Mike sought funds from Menasha Corporation Foundation to support the art therapy program at the hospital. The funds will help to expand the program by adding resources and materials, enabling the therapist to support more patients. A participant in the hospital’s art therapy program works on a project.

“There is nothing that compares to losing a child, but the ability to keep Jake’s spirit alive by supporting this program that he loved and allowing other children to experience it means everything to me.” Mike Wons Project Manager Menasha Packaging Company
