Abstract Recent collections of pontoniine shrimps from Heron Island, southern Great Barrier Reef, have provided further additions to the Australian marine fauna. A new species, Periclimenes poriphilus sp. nov., is described and illustrated. It is the first species of its genus to be found actually in a sponge host. Several other Periclimenes species have been reported as associates of sponges. Periclimenaeus arthrodactylus Holthuis, 1952, is reported for the second time only, previously known only from a single specimen collected in the Pulau Sailus Ketjil, Java Sea, Indonesia, in 1899, and new to the Australian fauna. Further specimens of Typton wasini Bruce, 1977 are recorded and Typton nanus Bruce, 1987 is re-assessed as a junior synonym of T. wasini, having been based on a juvenile specimen. An up-dated checklist of the Heron Island pontoniine fauna is also provided. Box 4646, Dxwin, Australia 0801 ABSTRACT A collection of palaemonoid shrimps from New Caledonian waters less than 100 m depth has been examined and found to include 39 species, including three new species, Palemonella dolichodactylus, Periclimenes ischiospìnusus and P. tenuirostris, and fourteen species new to the New Caledonian fauna, increasing to 67 the number of marine palaemonoid shrimps known from New Caledonia. RESUME Une collection de crevettes palaemonides trouvees dans les eaux de moins de 100 m de profondeur en Nouvelle-Cal6donie a CtC examinee et 39 espèces ont Ct6 identifiees, trois d'entres elles sont nouvelles pour la science, Palaemonella dolichodactylus, Periclimenes ischiospinosus, P. tenuirostris, et quatorze espèces sont nouvelles pour la faune de Nouvelle-Caledonie. INTRODUCTION The marine palaemonoid shrimps of New Caledonia have not attracted a great deal of study. Early collections were made by Abbe CULLIERETin 1890 and deposited in the collections of the Museum national d'Histoire naturelle, Paris, some of which were reported upon by KEMP (1922). HOLTHUIs (1953) recorded the presence of Stegopontonia commensalis. BRUCE (1968, 1970 a, 1970 c) added nine further species to the New Caledonian fauna list and more recently a series of papers by MONOD (1969,1972,1973,1976 a, 1976 b) provided data on a further nine species. -

The study examined the microscopic characteristics of the gonads and was based on maturity index (MI) and oocytes’ size-frequency distribution. The reproductive cycle was found to be synchronous between sexes, following an annual pattern. The minimum MI values were recorded in December and January, marking the onset of the reproductive cycle. During the spring, MI increased due to gamete development and proliferation. Mature specimens were prominent in summer while spawning occurred between July and September. The maximum MI values were recorded in mid-autumn, when most specimens were at the postspawning stage. The oocytes’ size-frequency distribution showed analogous seasonal variability. The present findings are crucial for establishing an efficient management strategy for this commercial and ecosystem-engineering species, since its exploitation in Greek waters has not been under official control for more than a century. -

Les révisions et actualisations de la systématique des holothuries ou « concombre de mer » a connu de multitude mis à jours depuis le commencement de cette thèse en 2013, parmis ces révisions on note l’ordre des Aspidochirotida, qui depuis 2018 a été remplacé par l’ordre Holothuriida. WoRMS (Registre mondial des espèces marines) comme base de données taxonomiques modernes accepte cette modification, l’utilisation de cette nouvelle classification était utilisé tout le long de la rédaction de cette thèse, et vue qu’on ne peut changer le titre initial de la thèse (selon les recommandations de la VRPG de l’université de Mostaganem) on a gardé l’ancienne classification. -
