Author Biographies lore m. dickey, MA is a PhD candidate at the University of North Dakota in the Department of Counseling Psychology and Community Services. At the time of this publication, lore is completing his pre-doctoral internship at Duke University in Counseling and Psychological Services. lore returned to graduate school in 2005 as part of a mid-life career change. His commitment to social justice and advancing the needs of the transgender community are evident in his research and community involvement. lore serves as the co-chair for the DIV 44 Committee for Transgender and Gender Variant Issues. He is the former chair of the APAGS Committee on LGBT Concerns.
Laura Alie is a graduate student at John F. Kennedy University where she is studying to become a clinical psychologist. She has served on the revision team for the American Psychological Association’s Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients and currently serves as the Student Representative for the APA’s Division 44 (Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues). Her dissertation explores factors that impact parental acceptance of transgender and gender non-conforming children. At the time of this publication, Laura is completing her doctoral practicum at San Jose State University in Counseling and Psychological Services.
S. L. Colton Meier, MA is a PhD candidate in the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Houston. Working in association with Dr. Julia Babcock, Colt’s major area of research revolves around the female to male transsexual (FtM) community including psychological health, sexual orientation, and the psychological effects of testosterone. Following graduation, Colt served a one-year appointment as a Research Assistant in Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX and was the Research Coordinator for the Impulsivity: Bipolar Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder Research Program under the supervision of Dr. Alan Swann at the Mental Sciences Institute. Currently, Colt has three original articles and more than a dozen professional presentations. He professes the Psychology of Human Sexuality as a teaching fellow at the University of Houston. Colt serves as a graduate student representative for Division 44 of the American Psychological Association as well as the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgender Special Interest Group of the Texas Psychological Association. He also serves as the student representative on the Cougar Ally Training Program at the University of Houston and co- facilitator of Rice Ally Training at Rice University in Houston.
