November 2 Creole cowboyZ December 7 Midnight Special CLUB NEWS from our President Hi Everyone Well here I am writing my report sitting at the judging table for the Len Wakefield Memorial Trophy. The South Australian Council for Country Music is having their Champion of Champions judging and then their evening show again and we are here to chose a Junior 17s and under. Wow! What a lot of talent. It’s so hard for my fellow judges (Steve Liley and Tarlee Schultz) and me to choose, but we finally came to a decision. Our choice is Georgette Berry from Berri. What a talent. We think she very much deserves our award to encourage her to keep up the good work. We hope to see her very soon at our club. Our annual general meeting is upon us next month, so looking forward to that. Our show for that day should be a ripper as well, with Carole Sturtzel and Wild Oats plus special guest Chooka Williams. Looking forward to seeing you all. Thank God for country music. Di Smith, President. Great dance music, nice to see the dance floor full. I enjoy all styles of country music. I get a little disappointed with some people saying they that don’t like this or that band. They all put a lot of effort into their music. If it’s country it’s OK. There are some great bluegrass groups, but I guess people would complain about that kind of music. Oh well, that’s life. It was a pleasure to have Derani Haynes now a married lady with two lovely little girls along to sing for us. She was the first winner of the Len Wakefield Award and still sounding great. Bye for now, Trevor Denton and Bob Basely Lorraine plus Derani Sanders (nee Haynes) and Dave Watts on Banjo Peter Hartman was hiding behind his drums! July 2008 Entertainment Report Here we are again, now July into the second part of the year and what a great country band Heartland! The added keyboard player with the pedal steel gave a great sound. The keyboard player’s step daughters are ‘Sugar and Spice’. It was a pleasure to hear them, well done girls. They said they had a great time at Barmera. Our special guest, the Bush Balladeer Star Quest Winner 2008, Rachel Richards gave us a lovely performance of songs she wrote and also the covers she did. She was a very presentable person, she said she loved our club, the way it was run. We thank you for that. Well that’s all folks, don’t forget the early start next month, 11am AGM. They run huge music celebrations at the die. Carole and the boys still love belting it out for their Arkaba Hotel in Glen Osmond every 3 or 4 months. It is remaining followers, ageing together disgracefully (ha becoming quite the place to go. Dave Brogden has been ha). Appearing every now and then at one of the Country their main drummer for a good 10 years and is sought after music clubs or RSL shows, Carole says they enjoy the fact by others bands (appearing regularly with big Jim Hermel) that the audience still give them the thumbs up after all and it’s no wonder with his incredible style.
