HOLMES has been approved for the School of Music and the College of Fine Arts by Mark W. Phillips Professor of Music Charles A. McWeeny Dean, College of Fine Arts 3 ABSTRACT HOLMES, THOMAS W., M.M., June 2009, Composition Creation Myths (53 pp.) Director of Thesis: Mark W. Phillips Creation Myths is based on the concept of continuous creation and destruction. The melodies and motives rise and fall in a continuous process of renewal – as one section is destroyed or obscured, another has already begun to take its place. Moving from a delicate ‘music box’ texture of vibraphone, marimba, glockenspiel and celesta to violent impacts of up to four simultaneous brake drums, Creation Myths evokes a wide range of emotions. Approved: _____________________________________________________________ Mark W. Phillips Professor of Music Creation Myths For Wind Ensemble Thomas Holmes © 2009 This is a transposed score - instruments are as written in parts, not sounding.
