In Bangladesh, very few contributions are available on the taxonomic study on these arachnids. The present paper contains an updated checklist of the spider fauna of Bangladesh based on the published records of different workers and the identified collections of the recent studies by the author. It includes a total of 334 species of spiders belong to the infraorders Mygalomorphae and Araneomorphae under 21 families and 100 genera. A brief diagnosis of different families and their domination together with the distribution throughout the country are provided herewith. Key words: Checklist, spiders, Araneae, Arachnida, Bangladesh INTRODUCTION Bangladesh is basically a riverine agricultural country. It lies between 20.35ºN and 26.75ºN latitude and 88.03ºE and 92.75ºE longitude, covering an area of 1,47,570 sq. km (55,126 sq. miles). The country as such offers varied climatic situations viz., temperature, rainfall, humidity, fogmist, dew and Haor- frost, winds etc. (Rashid 1977). With the vast agricultural lands, also there are different kinds of evergreen, deciduous and mangrove forests staying different areas of the country viz., the southern Sunderbans, northern Bhawal and Madhupur forests and eastern Chittagong and Chittagong Hill-Tracts forest. Along with the agricultural lands, each of the forest ecosystems is composed of numerous species of spider fauna of the country. -

This clade is the new subtribe Levieina, represented by seven new species in three new genera. Within Leviea gen. n. are three new species, L. herberti sp. n., L. lornae sp. n., and L. francesae sp. n., all of which are unusual among the myrmarachnines in appearing as typical salticids, not antlike. Papuamyr gen. n. superficially resembles Ligonipes Karsch, 1878 or Rhombonotus L. Koch, 1879 as a compact antlike spider, but lacks their laterally- compressed palp and bears an ectal spur on the paturon of the chelicera. -

The aim of this study was to determine the species richness of jumping spiders in Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape (RSPL), Bohol, Philippines. Field sampling was conducted on June 8-15, 2015 for 64 man-hours using beat-netting and vial-tapping methods from all the field layers. One hundred eighteen individuals belonging to 45 species and 21 genera were recorded. Highest species richness (H’ = 2.441) was recorded in barangay Nueva vida este. Cytaea sp. was the most abundant species. Emathis makilingensis was identified as a new record to Bohol. The result of this study showed high species diversity and greater evenness of salticids in RSPL. However, the overall estimated species richness in the study area is 148 species or more which means that there are still several species of jumping spiders in RSPL, Bohol Island to be discovered in future studies. Jumping spiders (Salticidae) are the most speciose family of spiders, with more than 500 described genera and about 5,000 described species (Richman et al 2005). They are one of the expert silent predators in the tea and paddy ecosystems that feed on small insects like moths, butterflies, beetles, aphids, hoppers etc., which help maintain ecological equilibrium by suppressing insect pest (Chetia & Kalita 2012). -

In this day and age, the fact that the keys and the descriptions are in Latin is an increasingly serious inconvenience. It is hoped that a translation of Simon's keys to the Groupes of the large and systematically difficult family of jumping spiders, the Salticidae, will be a welcome aid to the increasing numbers of workers in that family. While many, though not all, of Simon's groups are admittedly artificial, they still represent the only available general scheme for identification and access to the literature. The features that Simon used in his keys, such as the relative position of the posterior median eyes, the shape of the ocular quadrangle, the curvature of the line of the anterior eyes, the relative lengths of the third and fourth legs, the presence and position of the thoracic groove, and the spination of the legs, to mention a few, still serve for identification and classification. -

The former two genera are the first records from the country. While providing diagnosis of the newly recorded genera, description and necessary illustrations of the new species are also provided. The family Salticidae (jumping spiders) is the largest family of spiders; it is known throughout the world, and consists of nearly 6,000 described species belonging to 625 genera, holding 13% of all species of spiders (Foelix, 1996; Jackson et al., 2001). Salticids usually show distinct sexual dimorphism in morphology of the adults. As a result, the male-female complementarity remains unclear for many nominal species in this family. This means that more than a few synonymies are likely hidden in the current classification of the family. Furthermore, due to insufficient sampling efforts in tropical and subtropical zones, it is likely that many species are yet to be discovered. The genus Phintella Strand in Bösenberg and Strand (1906) is one of the most speciose genera in the family Salticidae, and is thought to have diversified in the Oriental and Palearctic regions. -

L. Koch 1846 is a primarily oriental genus of relatively large salticids, possessing a broad, depressed prosoma and a slender opisthosoma, with an overall flattened body bearing lustrous markings made up of iridescent, scale-like hairs. These spiders are also sometimes referred to as fighting spiders because of the combative nature of the males, in which the first pair of legs is often greatly elongated (Zabka 1985; Murphy & Murphy, 2000; Li et. al. 2002; Suguro 2012). Although the genus Thiania now includes 23 species, only a single species has hitherto been recorded in India, T. bhamoensis Thorell 1887 (WSC 2020). Here we report the occurrence of Thiania cf. subopressa, only the second species in the genus to be photographed in this country (Figures 1-2).
