Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly Donates Custom Chopper to Hall of Fame Motorcycle Created by Knievel Custom Cycles Placed on Exhibit Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 07/24/2018 HALL OF FAME QUARTERBACK JIM KELLY DONATES CUSTOM CHOPPER TO HALL OF FAME MOTORCYCLE CREATED BY KNIEVEL CUSTOM CYCLES PLACED ON EXHIBIT CANTON, OHIO – The Pro Football Hall of Fame is home to the world’s largest and most significant collection related to the game. Among the thousands of artifacts are many personal mementos from football’s greatest legends. A unique addition to the Hall’s vast collection was received as the custom- made motorcycle owned by Hall of Fame quarterback JIM KELLY arrived at the museum on Monday afternoon and placed on exhibit as featured on the Hall’s Instagram. Kelly had approached the Hall of Fame in recent months to inquire about the Museum’s interest in receiving the 2008 custom chopper. The one-of-a-kind motorcycle was created and designed by Knievel Custom Cycles. The motorcycle includes a special Jim Kelly Hall of Fame logo and autographs from legendary daredevil and stunt performers Evel Knievel and his son Robbie Knievel. COMMITMENT • INTEGRITY • COURAGE • RESPECT • EXCELLENCE The chopper was delivered to Kelly in 2008 at that year’s annual Jim Kelly Celebrity Golf Classic, an annual benefit for Kelly for Kids (www.kellyforkids.com/) and Hunter’s Hope Foundation (www.huntershope.org/). Prior to its arrival in Canton yesterday, Kelly was often seen riding the 710- pound motorcycle alongside fellow Bills’ teammates at rallies. “This is a donation unlike anything the Hall of Fame has ever received. It is fitting considering that Jim Kelly is one-of-a-kind,” Hall of Fame President David Baker shared. “There is nothing ordinary about Jim from the way he played the game to the manner in which he has battled his bouts with cancer. We hope fans are inspired by seeing the motorcycle and knowing it reflects the character of one of the greatest Hall of Famers ever, Jim Kelly.” The chopper is not the first artifact from the career and life of Kelly that has found its way to Canton. The following items from Kelly are either exhibited or preserved in the Hall of Fame’s Ralph Wilson, Jr. Pro Football Research & Preservation Center and archives: • Buffalo Bills jersey worn by Kelly during the 1993 season when the Bills won the AFC East Championship. • Kelly’s Buffalo Bills game worn helmet, circa 1994. • Game ball awarded to Jim Kelly after the 1990 AFC Championship Game victory that earned the Bills’ their first Super Bowl berth. Also in the Hall’s collection is Kelly’s game plan and playbook from the game. • United States Football League (USFL) game ball football that was awarded to Kelly of the Houston Gamblers for his performance in the 1984 season. • Kelly’s Buffalo Bills game plan and itinerary for Super Bowl XXVIII. • Kelly's Houston Gamblers (USFL) jersey from 1984. • Kelly's Houston Gamblers (USFL) helmet. • Kelly's East Brady High School jersey • Timmie Award by Touchdown Club of Washington D.C. given to him for being the 1990 NFL Player of the Year in the AFC • USFL game-used football awarded to Jim Kelly for a 574-yard passing performance with the Gamblers on Feb. 24, 1985 versus the Los Angeles Express PLAN A VISIT TO HALL OF FAME The Pro Football Hall of Fame Museum is open seven days a week.     PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2020-2021 EDITIOn QUARTERBACK JIM KELLY - hall of fame class of 2002 BUFFALO BILLS Team History The Buffalo Bills began their pro football life as the seventh team to be admitted into the new American Football League. The franchise was awarded to Ralph C. Wilson on October 28, 1959. Since that time, the Bills have experienced extended periods of both championship dominance and second-division frustration. The Bills’ first brush with success came in their fourth season in 1963 when they tied for the AFL Eastern division crown but lost to the Boston Patriots in a playoff. In 1964 and 1965 however, they not only won their division but defeated the San Diego Chargers each year for the AFL championship. Head Coach Lou Saban, who was named AFL Coach of the Year each year, departed after the 1965 season. Buffalo lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1966 AFL title game and, in doing so, just missed playing in the first Super Bowl. Then the Bills sank to the depths, winning only 13 games while losing 55 and tying two in the next five seasons. Saban returned in 1972, utilized the Bills’ superstar running back, O. J. Simpson, to the fullest extent and made the Bills competitive once again. That period was highlighted by the 2,003-yard rushing record set by Simpson in 1973. But Saban departed in mid-season 1976 and the Bills again sank into the second division until a new coach, Chuck Knox, brought them an AFC Eastern division title in 1980.

    OUTLOOK PLAYERS COACHES OPPONENTS REVIEW RECORDS HISTORY MEDIA THE HISTORY OF SMU FOOTBALL 1910s On the morning of Sept. 14, 1915, coach Ray Morrison held his first practice, thus marking the birth of the SMU football program. Morrison came to the school in June of 1915 when he became the coach of the University’s football, basketball, baseball and track teams, as well as an instructor of mathematics. A former All-Southern quarterback at Vanderbilt, Morrison immediately installed the passing game at SMU. A local sportswriter nicknamed the team “the Parsons” because the squad was composed primarily of theology students. SMU was a member of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which ruled that neither graduate nor transfer students were eligible to play. Therefore, the first SMU team consisted entirely of freshmen. The Mustangs played their first game Oct. 10, 1915, dropping a 43-0 decision to TCU in Fort Worth. SMU bounced back in its next game, its first at home, to defeat Hendrix College, 13-2. Morrison came to be known as “the father of the forward pass” because of his use of the passing game on first and second downs instead of as a last resort. • During the 1915 season, the Mustangs posted a record of 2-5 and scored just three touchdowns while giving up 131 Ownby Stadium was built in 1926 points. SMU recorded the first shutout in school history with a 7-0 victory over Dallas University that year. • SMU finished the 1916 season 0-8-2 and suffered its worst 1920s 1930s loss ever, a 146-3 drubbing by Rice.

    Robert Ford, at only 5'6" and 160 lbs., was Belton’s leading rusher as a soph, junior and senior (in 1968) and went on to become the University of Houston’s top receiver and return specialist. He coached in three Super Bowls during his 10-year coaching career in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins. Robert Ford was born on June 21, 1951, in Belton TX. He was raised in Belton by his mother, Bernice Burleson, and attended Harris school from the 1st thru the 7th grade before attending Belton Jr HS and Belton H.S. Robert was a 3-sport letterman for three years at Belton H.S. and graduated in 1969. He was a 3-time All-District outfielder on the Tiger baseball team, was a 3-year starter at RB in football, and ran the sprints and sprint relay for the Tiger track team for three years. As a senior Ford won the District in the 100-yd dash (9.9) and 220-yd dash (22.0) and anchored the winning 440-yd relay team (43.2) that included Preston Clemons, Cleveland McBride, and Jim Stewart. He led the Tigers in rushing with 591 yards as a soph in 1966 but (because of an injury) played only 5 games at RB as a junior and still gained 551 yards (leading the team) at 6.8 yards per carry. In his senior year, the 5'6", 160 lb. Ford was the leading rusher (1,011 yards on 144 carries for a 7.0 average), leading receiver (288 yards on 12 passes for 24 per catch average) and scorer (142 points) for the 1968 Tiger football team that was 9-2 under Coach Jack Meredith and was champion of District 13-3A.
