The team cruised to a 75-8 victory in its international exchange in 2011 Quebec Classic! game against the Saguenay Mercenaries in Saguenay, Canada (two hours north of Quebec City) in front of an estimated crowd of 1,000. UC newcomer running back Jake Larson (Maple Grove) was named the Pioneers Of- fensive Most Valuable Player, while linebacker Dana Christofferson (Richford, N.Y.) was named the Defen- sive Most Valuable Player for UC. Nine different Pio- neers scored touchdowns including Jamie Murphy, who caught two touchdown passes. The Mercenaries compete in the Major Football League of Quebec (LFMQ) which primarily consists of players with college degrees who want to continue to pursue a football career after college. Division III teams are allowed to play an interna- tional game once every three off-seasons, and the Pio- neers are very fortunate to have the opportunity to do so this year. This contest allows the team 10 practices with pads prior to the game to prepare. Strength & Conditioning Report Our players put turned in a tremendous effort in the weight room this offseason. We had outstanding partici- pation for these volunteer workouts that resulted in over an 8% average strength gain per player. New Turf Installed at Gaetano Stadium The Utica College Athletic department will be replacing the Field Turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium this month with Field Turf's newest product called Revolution. The process will begin on Monday, June 20 and it will take approximately 4-6 weeks. Utica will be one of the first schools in the country to install one of the latest offerings to hit the market - FieldTurf Revolution. Revolution provides many advantages that no other product can deliver. Its innovative fiber technology completes a set of devel- opments that have made Field Turf's patented product the most distinguished turf in the world. Utica's new turf will feature the College's athletic logo (moose) in the center of the turf and “Pioneers” will be printed in each end zone. The turf that is being replaced was installed in the year 2000 with a life expectancy of 8-10 years. Along with Football, Charles A.
