On the other hand, if you fail to qualify for the job due to a reason within your control (you fail in training, you get into trouble, or you give false information on your security clearance application and are denied a security clearance), the choice is not yours. Joubert of Lake Church, La., a production recruiter with the 149th Fighter Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, was recognized by the Air National Guard as one of the nation's top recruiters during the 2012 Air National Guard Recruiting and Retention Workshop in New Orleans, in her native state. Joubert credits her success with finding the best possible fit for each new airman. She said she's most rewarded "when recruits go off to training and come back transformed and proud. I try to make sure I'm giving them what they're looking for while fulfilling the mission of the unit.". 3. Be a United States citizen or a permanent legal resident. Each of the services have different policies/procedures when it comes to "guaranteed jobs.". If your hope is to become an Air Force officer, then Air Force ROTC is one of three ways. With detachments at more than 143 universities and colleges nationwide -- and more than 850 schools offering the program with host schools in their locations -- AFROTC is an excellent way to work toward a commission while obtaining your degree. Recruiters Share Personal Stories to Show Applicants How the Military Can Benefit Them. It's important that you be truthful with the recruiter. It's also very important that you not allow the recruiter to encourage, advise, or even hint that you lie about any of this important information. It is a felony to give false information or withhold required information on any military recruiting paperwork. (See I Cannot Tell a Lie for detailed information about possible consequences). Officers must provide their last 3 Officer Evaluation Records (OER). Physical– Must meet height/weight and current medical requirements. No matter what path you choose, you will be given an equal chance to prove yourself. And as you do, you will fuel your future with valuable career training, educational assistance and a steady paycheck. For those with lots of flexibility, the Air Force has a program called the "quick ship list." Every once in a while, an applicant with a reserved slot will drop out of the DEP at the very last minute. As it would be a waste of time and resources to allow this "bed to go empty" at basic training, the Air Force will allow applicants in the DEP to voluntarily put their name on the "quick ship list," to take the place of the applicant who dropped out. The down side? All scholarship cadets receive a monthly nontaxable stipend throughout the school year. To be eligible, you must: Earning two of the distinctions in one year is considered to be a unique accomplishment, as there are only four categories of annual awards for production recruiters in the Air National Guard. The other categories are for top non-prior service and overall accessions, or recruiting. The Air National Guard offers you the ability of attending school full time or pursuing a civilian career while serving your country in one of the most sophisticated and exciting branches of the military. You must be a college graduate and pass the Air Force Officer Qualitative Test (AFOQT) and physical exam. You may also be required to attend a technical training school. After the Korean War mobilization, tn 30 November 1952, the Trenton units were moved to McGuire Air Force Base. In February 1956 due to congestion at Newark Airport, the 119th Fighter Squadron was moved from Newark to McGuire AFB. The NJ ANG was expanded with the formation of the 150th Air Transport Squadron also at McGuire. In August 1958, the 119th was moved from McGuire to the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center and the former Naval Air Station Atlantic City facility. On 15 October 1962, the 119th was authorized to expand to a group level, and the 177th Tactical Fighter Group was established by the National Guard Bureau. An F-51H Mustang of the 119th Fighter Squadron at Newark Airport, 1948. 349th Troop Carrier Group at Hamilton AFB, California began deploying C-46 Commando transports of several troop carrier squadrons to the airport under the TAC Twelfth Reserve Area. In 1949, the USAFR 403d Troop Carrier Wing, Medium, was stationed at the airport. In 1952, the 406th deployed to Far East Air Forces in Japan for Korean War duty. It returned to Portland in 1953 and remained until 1957, flying C-119 Flying Boxcars until being moved to Selfridge AFB, Michigan. After Air Defense Command closed its facilities in 1966, Portland AFB was inactivated and the military facilities were reduced in size. Its combat commander, Hobey Baker, was a famous hockey and football star at Princeton before the war. It was said, Hobey preferred Ivy League men in his unit, preferably from Princeton. Indeed, he painted the aircraft in his squadron in Princeton colors: Orange and Black. Captain Hobey Baker was killed on December 21, 1918 when he took a SPAD XIII up for one last ride. The SPAD developed engine trouble while taking off and Baker died when the aircraft crashed soon thereafter. The squadron itself was deployed to New Caledonia in April and entered combat in June of that year. A F-16C Block 25B Fighting Falcon of the 119th Fighter Squadron. The 119th is the oldest unit in the New Jersey Air National Guard, having over 90 years of service to the state and nation. After the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, elements of every Air National Guard unit in New Jersey has been activated in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
