Congratulations to your doctor’s degree! Regarding the conferment ceremony in the City Hall of Stockholm, please take part in the following information, in order to make the best out of this evening. Dress code Dress code for the event is White tie. Read more about the dress code in the link below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_tie The same dress code goes for your accompanying guest/s. However, if your guests only attends the ceremony not the banquet, it will also be acceptable if they are dressed in neat business attire. White tie for men: Black tailcoat, white shirt, white vest, white blow tie. Nice black shoes and black socks. White tie for women: full length dress in any color, with our without naked shoulders, opera-length gloves and shawl is optional. National costume is also acceptable for both men and women. Information The ceremony starts at 5 p.m. sharp. Main entrance will open at 4.20 p.m. The ceremony ends at approximately 7.15 p.m. when sparkling wine will be served followed by a banquet. The entire ceremony takes approximately 2,5 hours. The ceremony starts with the president of KTH holding a welcome speech followed by the conferment of new doctors, ingauguration of new professors, awards and entertainment. For further instructions, information and a visual idea of how it works, it is essential that you read all information below of how the ceremony is carried out. Upon arrival When you arrive together with your accompanying guest/s, start with leaving your coat in the manned cloak room at the entrance. Your guests are then to take their seats in the Blue Hall. The seating during the ceremony is free. You are asked to proceed upstairs, to gather for the procession. Marshals will show the way. Your name will be on a list at the entrance upstairs, and you will be showed into the right group. When you are placed in the correct group, just go with the flow. There will be about 350 people gathering for the procession so please be on time. Each school has a group. You will be sorted in alphabetical order by your group marshal. It is of great importance that the order your marshal says are being kept in order to give right diploma to right person.. Please keep in mind that the procession as well as the entire ceremony will be filmed, so it is a good idea to keep a smile on your face in case there will be close ups. Procession When the ceremony starts with the procession proceed from upstairs, down to the Blue hall. Try to keep an arms length distance, and not more, to the person in front of you. Your marshal will lead your group down to your chair’s row. Some groups enter their rows form the aisle, others from the side. Just follow your marshal who will lead the way. When reaching your chair, remain standing until the head marshals on the stage sits down. The ceremony The conferment is conducted by the faculty dean Sophia Hober and the presenter John Ågren. The ceremony starts with conferment of jubilee doctors, followed by honorary doctors and new doctors. The dean of each school will call the names of the new doctors, and the presenter will give diplomas. When your name is galled, walk the last steps up When the dean enters the stage, he will ask your group to step forward. Your marshal will show you to the designated spot. When your name is called, you enter the stage to the presenter, receive the diploma with your left hand, in order to shake hands with the presenter with your right. Then proceed to the upper stair case, facing the audience. Shen the entire group are facing the audience to receive applause. When the applause fades, exit upstairs, and through the back stairs back to your chairs. A marshal will show the way. The order is not important now, so just fill up the row in any order. When you are about to receive your diploma, and wrong name is called. Please just wait until you hear your name. Unfortunately it happens now and then that someone is missing without cancelling their attendance. If you happen to receive a diploma with wrong name, misspelled or damaged, please inform in an e- mail to [email protected] and you will receive a correct diploma to your home address- After the ceremony When the ending music starts, the audience rises. The procession starts with the flag parade first in line followed by the KTH management followed by the rest of the faculty and new doctors. The ceremony is over and you can reach your friends and family in the blue hall by entering the back stairs. After the ceremony a glass of sparkling wine will be served, and eventually the banquet will start in the Golden Hall. Marshals will hand out the seating plan for the banquet during the cocktail.
