With Apologies To All Politicians

During and immediately after World War II petrol in was severely ra- tioned. To provide an alternative fuel, 'Gas Producer Units' (charcoal burners) were attached to vehicles. They were cumbersome and dangerous, and they needed to be lit at least 20 minutes before travel. But a new forestry industry on the NSW South Coast resulted ... the production of charcoal. In 1941 the RACV published a series of cartoons in its magazine 'The Radiator', to encourage greater public acceptance of Gas Producer Units. This was one of them. Gordon Proudfoot
