Van de voorzitter
Historisch jaar
Volge d seizoe zij ee ju ileu a ti iteite oo zie . We de ke aa ee ijzondere edst ijd , ee jeugdtoe ooi e ee histo is he aaltijd.
Zij o li g as steeds i o de, aa u loeide e ook ee ee aa tal half e tu ies a z at.
Dat slotfeestje sto d te slotte i het teke a het afs heid a R a . It as a good da , I e jo ed it , liet R a eten.
VCC k eeg da kzij Ha old Vogelaa ee p a htige ieu e e site.

Ti a zelfs i z ee tje ee sessie oo zij eke i g. Ook i die hoedanigheid zullen we hem missen.
WEER VIJF TEAMS Net als in 2006 hadden we vijf teams – under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15 en under 18.
NEGEN DUTCH LIONS Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 9
George Foster en Kaushal Marthi maakten deel uit van het under 12 team dat vijf wedstrijden speelde tege E gelse ou ties i the i ket festi al at Ki g s College, Tau to , So e set, a -10 augustus.
E et ee g as i ket i …

ENGLISH VERSION
THE NEW COACHING DUO Marc Nota giving up the position of youth coach at the end of the 2006 season marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. The committee acted wisely and swiftly in contracting Atse Buurman, in principle for three years. The prospect of a coaching duo of Atse and Ryan was an exciting one. And so it proved. Our new coaching duo was the envy of many clubs. Not only did the juniors learn a great deal it was also great fun! Atse will be coming back in 2007 but Ryan sadly not. It is imperative that the coaching continues in this vein, with Atse supplemented by another young enthusiastic professional.
Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 10
MORE INDOOR TRAINING
The juniors had the opportunity of more indoor training than in the previous close season. In addition to the weekly Sunday afternoon sessions pre-season in the Kievitenhal in March and April, which had been introduced in 2006, we had on average one training session a month right through from October either at VOC or Kieviten. The monthly sessions were not well attended but the pre-season ones very well. It was there that we could see how well Atse combines expert coaching with the fun element. A special mention for Tim Foster and Balkumar Marthi – both of whom took their level 1 coaching exams in 2007 – who assisted Atse very capably. Tim even ran one session on his own. We shall miss him in this capacity as well.
FIVE TEAMS AGAIN As in 2006 we fielded 5 teams – under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 18. Fortunately as many of the boys were young in their age groups in 2006 there was not too much chopping and changing. As expected both the u de a d u de tea s pe fo ed u h ette tha a ea ago. The u de s i fa t lost o l t o matches (both v HCC) in their EBAB league whereas last year they won only one. Special mention to both Blair Hill and Niek Bollemeijer, who both took hat tricks and Floris van Hoogdalem who took four wickets in one over on one occasion. Thanks to Tim de Leede and all his assistants for the running the under 9 team and helping supervise the training on Saturday morning. Tim has certainly been spreading the word around because during the season we picked up more and more very young cricketers along the way so that we now have enough for TWO under 9 teams. Well done Tim, also for continuing their training into September. Thanks are also due to Coen van Hoogdale fo a agi g a d oo di ati g the u de s – a great job done as last year.
We had high hopes of the under 13 team, a number of whom had played in the under 10 side in 2005 that won the national championship. In 2006 we played in the EBAB league but this year the step up to the topjeugd was fully justified. Well we came close to being the best team in Holland as the first two teams in the league were the A t e p I dia s u defeated a d Belgiu ai l B its and Asians) but overall the team disappointed. Guidy Schoew had an outstanding season with the bat, scoring two half centuries, and the four Dutch Lions bowlers performed excellently but overall our batting was too weak.
Pre-seaso I did t thi k e ould even be able to field an under 15 team. It looked as though we might have to combine with Ajax. Hence it was entered into the EBAB league. In the end we did manage to field our own under 15 team and they proved to be too good for most of their opponents. Next year topjeugd for sure for the under s. Tha ks to Colette a Hees To Bolle eije s othe fo o ga isi g this tea e effi ie tl a d to R a for the umpiring and coaching.
Fi all the u de s. O e agai it as e diffi ult to get them up and running without a parent who was prepared to organise. The players themselves in the end had to do it. Sono had a go, then Andrew and finally Anu managed to get the team on the road. Fortunately they had very few matches. Atse umpired and coached – thanks for your efforts. We did manage to take part in the under 18 Flamingo tournament at the end of August, al eit ith a e ou g tea . I a fe ea s e ll ha e a e st o g u de tea – and a few organisers - but not yet.
9 DUTCH LIONS No fewer than 9 of our boys represented their country on cricket fields far and wide during the summer of 2007. George Foster and Kaushal Marthi were part of the under 12 team that played 5 matches against English counties in the cricket festival at King s College, Tau to , So e set, E gla d August -10. As last year the boys were hampered by poor preparation (very few practice games in Holland and no practice on grass wickets at all!) and only one draw was achieved in the five matches, the last match in which Kaushal had an outstanding match scoring 20 and keeping well. A week earlier Vivian Kingma, James Hardy and Guidy Schoew had all represented the national under 13 team at the Taunton festival, with a little bit more success (one win, two draws and two defeats). Vivian finished with the week with the best bowling average, despite being severely underbowled, and Ja es ith the ost i kets , i ludi g a at h i i g fo o the last da . Guid , ho had t pla ed i the under 12 tournament in Taunton last year, whereas Viv and James had, made a good debut, scoring one whirlwind 26 (in 15 balls) and generally bowling and fielding very tidily.
In that same week (July 30-August 3) Philip Kingma and Tom Bollemeijer were representing the national under 15 B team in Essex. Philip had initially been left out of the under 15 squads (there are two an A and a B one) Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 11
altogether but then had such a good week that he was scouted by Essex, meaning that he possibly may get the opportunity to train in England with the county juniors in Essex – well done Philip. In the week August 5-9 Floris Kingma and Anu Mudannayake played in the under 17 European Championships in Scotland while in that same week Vivian, James and Guidy were in Denmark playing in the under 13 European Championships, also against S otla d, I ela d a d De a k. U fo tu atel eithe tea et ith a su ess: the u de s d e all th ee of heir two-da at hes; the u de s lost all th ee of thei o e-day internationals. None of our boys had outstanding tournaments but all except Floris were playing in proper internationals for the first time - a great experience for them.
VCC-jeugd in actie
JUNIORS IN SENIOR TEAMS VCC 5 was a great success. No fewer than 17 juniors - 9 of these u de s! - played in VCC 5, most of them on a regular basis. Tom Bollemeijer and Philip Kingma played a number of matches for VCC 3, achieving a good measure of success particularly with the ball, and even VCC 2 fielded juniors other than Floris Kingma from time to time, including, historically the three Kingmas in one match at the end of the season!. Even VCC 4 used some of the older juniors during the season. And of course Floris Kingma made occasional appearances in VCC 1. So we finally had a structured policy of juniors playing in the Sunday senior teams in place – a d ofte i the ZaMi s he they were short. The VCC 5 concept will certainly continue next year and newly promoted VCC 3 will in 2008 be an important vehicle for developing our best 13, 14 and 15 year old talents.
THE FUTURE … Is rosy, particularly with the prospect of a full range facilities in 2008 – own clubhouse, bowling machine, new improved (raised) nets. In 2008 we will make great efforts to bring new players in to the club, particularly in the youngest age groups. An open day will be held around the end of March. And we intend to hold a tournament for the Haagse clubs in June. And with a grass square in 2009...

Maa e he e e og ee odig. Daar moeten zo veel mogelijk kinderen cricket leren.
Tot komend seizoen!
Tim de Leede

VCC U11 in 2007
En we konden altijd een beroep doe op Coe d A o a e Ra i Mog elia.

VCC UNDER 13 in 2007
I e did t e te the u de tea i the topjeugd league ut i the EBAB e e od ats a d o ls . We had virtually the same players in 2007 fas in 2006 so this time we did, with great hopes of winning the ha pio ship. Afte all e had Dut h Lio s u de , u de . The sta t ould t ha e ee ette – three wins in the first three games vs. Quick, HCC and VOC. In all three games we bowled first and opening partnerships of 63 (v. HCC) and exactly 100 (v. VOC) between Guidy Schoew and Viv Kingma were crucial to the second and third wins. Our first opponents, Quick, got no further than 47 all out, after being 0 for 4 wickets (!), so that was an easy total to overhaul. George Foster was in particularly good form with the ball in the early matches, taking a wicket with the very first ball of the innings v. both Quick and VOC. After this blistering start, our batting crumbled against a surprisingly strong Belgiu XI ade up of ai l I dia s a d B its afte the Belgia s had rattled up more than 150. Then followed an excellent match v. HBS away which we just lost. Guidy scored his se o d half e tu of the seaso u de s ha e to eti e if the ake a half century) but was poorly supported by the other batsmen. We bowled and fielded superbly but Dutch Lion Wessel Coster steered HBS home. Of the remaining games there were two very close matches v. Rood en Wit (lost) and v. Excelsior (won). The Antwerp Indians, who won the league undefeated, were a very good side and bowled us out for a paltry 36 while VRA also beat us, in the last league match thanks mainly to a half century by one Ashraf must have been over-age, or if he as t had ste iousl escaped the attention of the national under 13 team selectors (he hit sixes of which an adult would have been proud). Despite having home advantage in 6 of the 9 league matches (a quirk of the fixture planning), after the first three successive wins we only won one more match. The season ended with a friendly vs. Brentwood School SECOND under 13 team (really) who beat us, despite our strengthening the team with Philip Kingma and Tom Bollemeijer. Their first under 13 team is one of the best in England apparently – puts everything in perspective a little!.
As expected our Dutch Lions bowlers (Viv, James, George and Guidy) performed excellently but apart from Guidy (200 runs including two half centuries) and to some extent Viv the batting was nowhere near good enough to win the league. This is not only a problem at club level but the national team level in this and other age groups. How to improve? Good coaching, very very hard work at the technique and a better mental approach, which often only experience can provide.
Many thanks to all who helped, supported and transported the team, especially Tim and Karina Foster, now sadly departed for England. We shall miss them, and George too of course.
Also thanks to all the players who turned out, especially the you g u de s, so eti es ot e e atti g a d hardly ever bowling. It was not the EBAB league so the strategy was to allow our main four bowlers (Viv, Guidy, George and James) to bowl their full complement of 6 overs, leaving often only 6 overs to be spread around the rest (and Stefan bowled most of those). These four also occupied major batting positions. I hope you enjoyed it anyway. Your fielding and all round enthusiasm were vital to the team effort.

VCC U15 in 2007
E a e aide s.
We waren uit eindelijk 73 all out.
Zij waren uit eindelijk 60 all out.
Uiteindelijk ging Tom run out. Philip ging 62 retired.

VCC 1 in 2007
We welcomed a couple of new players over the winter training with Sham Chaudry, Will Halliday as well as more availability from Andrew Othenio and Sean Trouw it was promising to be a stronger squad. Ryan Leloux returned from Australia to be coach and we lost Adeel Raja to VRA. We beat VOC in the final warm-up so we were confident going into the season.
R1 - HCC v VCC 6th May 2007 Tim won the toss and we batted and a quick start from John (19) and Rafi (15) got the score to 42/2. Atse went soon after but Ryan and Tim progressed the score to 139/4 in good time. Ryan started the year with a well made 78 only stopped when he missed the ball whilst on his way to a century. Tim ended up with 19, Wilfred Diepeveen scored 22 and Zafar hit a quick 18 and we ended up with 221/9 off the 50 overs. In the chase Tom de Grooth sta ted ui kl ut as t lo g efo e Ti hit his st aps ith t o i kets both caught behind by Atse. When Ryan got De Grooth for 47 and then got a run out via a direct hit HCC were tottering at 110/5. Some brilliant batting by JJ Esmeijer (61) and Bos (22) got the score toward 200 but a flurry of wickets had HCC in trouble at 201/9. Smits, batting with only one good eye due to a squash injury, scramble their way over the next few overs. 8 runs were required off the last over from Tim, a wide and a few full tosses meant HCC needed 2 off the last ball. They could only manage a single and the game was tied. Ryan Leloux (46/3) and Tim (44/2) were the best of the bowlers. This was the one that got away from us.
Esmeijer gaat gevangen worden
R2 - VCC v ACC 13th May 2007 The first game at the new field and we were keen to impress. Tim won the toss and we put ACC in on the freshly laid wicket. Tim got the first wicket at the new ground but old foe Zufi hanged around a while for 32. Bas v.d Heyde made 36 and at 94/4 off 30 overs the game was evenly poised. The next two batsmen Scott Frase a d ACC s Aussie coach put on 100 for the next wicket. ACC ended up with 220 but the bowlers gave it to them with plenty of hittable balls, Shazzie (58/0), Tamin (41 off 8) and Rafi (33 off 7) were the main culprits whilst Tim (27/2) and Ryan (38/0) were the best bowlers. Some good catches from Willie, Tim and John in the field. Ryan, showing what a sportsman he is, called back the batsmen after he slightly touched the rope after a great catch. The innings started OK but Rafi lost his wicket on 19 then the old stager Jan Balk then ripped through the top order. He took 16/4 off 7 overs and VCC went from 19/0 to 41/5 when John (19) was unluckily run out. Tim (15) and Sham (22) tried to get a partnership going but when Tim went we were soon all out for 85 off 32 overs. A dismal performance to say the least.
R3 - VRA v VCC 17th May 2007 Tim won the toss for the third time in a row and we batted on the artificial pitch. Binsy was back in the firsts and soon after back in the stand for a duck! John (20) and Ryan (16) made some headway but both went out and with Tim gone for 5 and Atse run out for a duck we were in trouble at 71/6. The two cousins, Sham and Rafi, got together and put on an 84 run partnership when Rafi was out for 61. Zafar (22) and Willy (19) supported Sham who finished with 69 not out and we had scored a competitive 233. VRA started quickly but wickets continued to fall a d VRA e e / he Joh aught Bo e off R a s o li g. Da i Mu a as still the e a d put o a u partnership with Brown (27) and another 68 runs with Maron (28). It was fitting he got the century and won the match in the last over. Zafar was the best of the bowlers with 32/3 whilst the others went for more than 5 an over. We did t take the at hes to i the game but at least a much improved effort.

R4 - VCC v Quick 20th May 2007 Tim lost the toss and Quick decided to bat. Zafar got the first wicket but 100 was on the board after 20 overs before Job van Bunge was out for 41. Reekers went soon after and Voorburg did well to restrict Quick for 206. Zafar got the wickets (33/3) and Ryan bowled economically (30/0 off 10), Rafi finished with 42/2. John and Binsy went early but Ryan was on fire with the bat. Rafi (10) and Atse (14) went out to loose shots so Tim joined Ryan when the clouds started to threaten. We needed to bat to the D/L score and we finally got to the score in the 23rd over when a quick shower came over the ground. A three was scored of the last ball before the rain and on 99 no more play was possible – ANOTHER TIE. Ryan finished with 47* and Tim 13*.
R5 – Excelsior v VCC 27th May 2007 We e t to E elsio s e g ou d ut the pit h as u de ate a d o pla as possi le. We did ha e a g eat lunch provided by Excelsior – well worth the trip.
R6 – VCC v HBS 28th May 2007 Tim won the toss and with rain threatening he put HBS in to bat. With Atse on International duty Ed Loomans was given his first game in the ones. R7 – VOC v VCC 3rd June 2007 Tim lost the toss and VOC batted. We struggled for an early breakthrough until Rafi came on in the 12th over (40/1). Sham got the second wicket but Bas Zuiderent (83) and Xavier Doherty (50) put on 108 in good time and VOC made 224/7. Zafar (36/2) and Tim (46/2 off 9) were the most successful bowlers. The loss of John and Binsy ea l did t defe R a attacking but when Tim went at 74/3 and Ryan (38) soon after the game was virtually lost. Rafi (29 no) run out of partners and Atse, Sham and Willy went early. We were all out for 141 off 42 overs. We were last on the ladder without a win and relegation staring in our faces.

Zafa got a ui k (55/2 off 12) then Ryan joined John and they got the score got up to 100/2 after 20 overs. The partnership ended at 84 when John (52) was out and Ryan (46) followed soon after (148/4 off 30). Tim and Atse ran on everything and scored a 53 partnership in 9 overs before Tim (33) and Atse (31) fell together. We scored 242. The first wicket was a brilliant run out by Rafi, hitting the stumps from side on. Shazzie got the next two wickets through accurate bowling and VVV were soon 37/3. A couple of wickets to Rafi (10/46/4) and catches to Atse had VVV out of the game at 114/9. A number of good points for the games but more worrying was the 4/5 missed opportunities in the field whether it were catches, run out opportunities, which will cost us against the better sides.
R9 – VCC v Hermes 17th June 2007 – First win at the new ground! We arrived at the ground but were only met with rain so it was a 12 o'clock start for a 48 over game. Tim opened the bowling with Sean (first game) and Hermes only got 24 off the first 12 overs then at drinks Hermes was 53/0 off 19 overs. Adriaan the got a double blow after the break picking up both openers. He then got Joshi and Borrani to rip the heart out of Hermes (16/4 off 10). In Ryan's first over a full toss was swept to Shazzie who threw to Atse who completed a run out. Hermes had lost 19/5 in 14 overs. Tim cleaned up the tail (8.3/21/3) and Rafi picked up two (6/16/2). Hermes finished 104 all out. Willy and John opened the batting and after 7 overs 7/2 didn't look too good, although John was unlucky. Ryan misjudged the line and went soon after hitting four and 24/3 was the score. Rafi joined Tim and got the score to 56/3 like Hermes we decided to stage a collapse. Tim (30) was caught at short cover, Rafi (17) went next ball, Sham two balls later and Atse left a ball too close to his stumps and we lost 4/4 to be 68/7. Sean went for 2 (79/8) and as Shazzie walked in 26 was needed off 20 overs. Binsy hit a 4 and six off Seelaar, a few edges from Shazzie, Binsy another 4 and the scores were tied! An almighty swipe and the ball missed the stumps by a whisker, but common sense prevailed and Binsy got 26 no. With only 3 points separating 7 clubs a position in the finals is not out of the question, and then who knows?
R10 – VCC v HCC 24th June 2007 – I the spirit of the ga e We have had a lot of close games against HCC in the last few years and lost most of them, so it was good to play against them when they had lost 4 games in a row. With rain predicted latter in the afternoon there is an Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 22
advantage to bat second under D/L. Unfortunately all our senior players wanted to bat first. Only one thing to do, lose the toss! HCC decided to bat; Zafar opened the bowling with Tim (29/1 after 11). Adriaan and Sham bowled next and got Tom de Grooth CB in his first over. Sham then bowled a pearler to get HCC coach Shane Deitz played down leg side whilst his off stump went cartwheeling (31/3 after 15). The score jumped to 60 when Atse stumped Bob Entrop down leg side off Sham, unfortunately the umpire didn't agree, so Sham bowled him next ball. Ryan followed Adriaan (5/19/1) and bowled a brilliant flipper to get JJ Esmeijer bowled. Sham then got Smits lbw not playing a shot and HCC were 70/6. Kloppenburg was at the other end then found Binsy in the outfield off Ryan and Sham bowled Jonkman (the one without the mole) and HCC were 77/8. Sham (20/4) and Ryan (8/17/3) were the pick of the bowlers. The fielding was also above par to get HCC under 100. Zafar and John opened the batting and got off to a good start and we were 44/2 off 10. The rain came and after 13.3 overs we had progressed to 57/2 (D/L – 26). The game had to commence at 7.34pm for us to complete the 6.3 overs to achieve 20 overs. At 7.20pm the umpires told HCC to get ready for a 7.34pm start if it stopped raining. HCC didn't heed the warning and half the side were still in the change rooms at 7.34pm when it stopped raining briefly. We were waiting for 7 minutes before HCC turned up. The next 9 balls took 15 minutes as HCC got sawdust, sand, new towels, missed run ups etc to delay bowling the six overs. They even asked for another ball but didn't accept the spare ball we provided as they wanted a HCC spare ball - what a joke! To top it off in the last over Dietz kept bowling off the wicket as the rained threatened. Rafi had to chase the wide balls off the wicket to prevent them being called wide. Tim smashed one onto his pads and was given lbw and there were plenty of colourful comments from the crowd towards the HCC captain. In the end Zafar made a great 46*, we made 88/2 off 20 overs and won the game. Another great team effort and we are 4th on the ladder!
R11 – ACC v VCC 1st July 2007 – Boring and Simple! Looking for payback after the thrashing ACC gave us early in the year John won the toss and batted. Zafar and John opened the batting and John went early hooking at one that jumped a bit. Ryan joined Zafar and enjoyed the Zafar run feast. Zafar made 47 off 46 balls as he was stumped soon after drinks (66/2 off 19 overs) with Ryan 10*. Ryan was getting out in the thirties so we had talked about a boring innings that accumulates runs. The team kept yelling out "be boring" to Ryan and he took the easy singles and rarely went for the big shots. At the other end Rafi was relishing his promotion to number 4 and the two "R's" had got to the 40th over and put on a very good 106 run partnership. Ryan made 68 off 110 balls, not the most fluent innings but an important one to ensure a large score. Rafi went soon after for a well made 65 of 87 balls. Sham was 14* during the loss of wickets at the other end and we ended up with 228/8. Zafar bowled well with the wind (6/14/0) whilst Tim picked up the wickets bowling stump to stump (6/18/2). Shazzie got a wicket in his first over, after a great catch by Tim, 35/3 off 13 overs. Zulfi joined ACC's Aussie coach and they built a bit of a partnership. Just before drinks Rafi got the breakthrough getting Zulfi lbw for 37. We then put 5 on the boundary for the Aussie coach and it forced the other batsmen to run him out just before drinks (110/5 off 35 overs). Ryan got a wicket first ball after drinks and the rest was a procession with Rafi getting wickets (16/3 off 5). Fielding was good with Flo Kingma and Peter Moran doing a good job in the field.
R12 – VCC v VRA 8th July 2007 – Murray ruins the party! I won the toss and decided to bat against the leaders VRA. I went ea l a d Zafa ade a ui k ut it as R a s day with the bat. He hit the boundaries with ease early in his innings but with Rafi going out for 10 it was 71/3. Tim joined Ryan and the consolidated and put on a 93 run partnership to get the score up to 164 when Ryan went out for 71 caught on the fence trying to hit Adeel Raja out of the ground. Unfortunately Tim went soon after for a hard fought 51. Tim was dropped twice, once by the best fielder in Holland (just ask Peter Borren – he will tell you!) but the time in the middle was just what he needed. Atse, Sham and Willy went for single figures and Will Halliday made a quick fire 14 at more than a run a ball to get the score up to 208, a pretty competitive score. We got off to a perfect start with Tim getting Tjade Groot in the first over caught by John at first slip. Tim then got the Viking and Zafar another straight away and VRA were 29/3. Murray and Borren formed a partnership at the cost of Shazzie (16 off 3), Sham (36 off 6), Adriaan (18 off 4) and Rafi (22 off 3). Ryan finally got the breakthrough o li g Bo e fo ut VRA had a ed to / off o l o e s. With the u ate o VRA s side the ould play it safe but we kept trying. 126/5 the 151/6 following wickets to Ryan and Zafar put us back in the match. Ryan Ma o joi ed Mu a a d the put p essu e o the fielde s taki g the ui k o es a d t o s, a ouple of isfields cost us a few runs. Ryan bowled very well for his 42/2 off 10 and Tim also was bowled out 35/2 off 10 so it was left to Sham and Zafar to finish the last few overs. Sham got Marron brilliantly stumped by Atse 201/7 and then Zafar (21/3 off 10) got another wicket 204/8. With 4 runs needed off the last over Murray got them through on the penultimate ball, a shattering loss but we pushed them all the way.

R13 – Quick vs. VCC 15th July 2007 – Were we a playoff contender? It was third vs. fourth and we needed to win this game to prove ourselves as a finals contender. We were sent in to bat but we would have batted first anyway. John and Zafar started with a 50 run partnership when Zafar went for 25 (58/1). John went for 35 (70/2) and a good foundation was set. Unfortunately Ryan went soon after 71/3 but luckily it was the Tim and Rafi show this week. Another important partnership of 94 in the middle order progressed the score to 165/4 when Rafi was out for 36. Tim (75 no) made sure we got to 208 (last weeks score). Quick have plenty of batting strength.Tim got Job out early 9/1. Jeroen Brand wielded the willow a bit to Zafar and the chase was on. I brought on Sham to replace Zafar. Sham got a wicket almost immediately 52/2 when Brand went out for 36. Reekers came in and so did the spinner – Rafi. Da o s dislike of spi agai p o ed his do fall he Rafi got him cb 74/3. Sham (36/3 off 6) was still doing the job at the other end and picked up their international Clingeleffer and then got Mol. Rafi got another wicket and all off a sudden quick were 108/6 and we were well on top. Rafi (26/2 off 8) was replaced by Ryan who picked up two wickets (33/2 off 6). A late charge by Schiferli (18) was quickly stopped by Zafar who cam back and picked up the last two wickets and Quick were all out for 177 and we were third on the ladder!

R14 – VCC v Excelsior 22nd July 2007 – Outdone by Daan and ourselves! Excelsior chose to bat. Tim started with three maidens and the pressure told with Zafar pulling off a runout. Zafar then bowled Cleary and another run out and Excelsior were 71/3 off 22 overs. Tim had finished his spell (19/0 off 10) and Shazzie and Sham followed. Shazzie only bowled 2 overs for 14 and Shams first 3 overs went for 25 as Van Bunge and Schewe put the loose balls away. Adriaan followed Anwar and went for 18 off 4 and was replaced by Rafi. Rafi got Schewe by another one handed diving catch by Ryan and then rain finally came. Excelsior were 114/4 off 35 overs and we were slightly ahead. We came back after 40 minutes but it was hard to grip the ball. Van Troost got a few edges off Rafi but managed to hit a few sixes. Sham finished his spell (38/0 off 10 - 13 off his last 7 overs) and Ryan came on but also struggled with the wet ball (34/1 off 4). The crucial moments of the innings was when Daan van Bunge was put down as he reached 50. Daan went on to make 89 and a score of less than 190 turned out to be 223 off 50 overs. Rafi picked up some late wickets (61/3 off 10) and Zafar finished his spell (35/1 off 10) but the score was 40-50 higher than it should have been. John got some drives going, unfortunately the last one in the air for 23 and Zafar lasted a bit longer for 27 runs and the score went to 71/2 off 16 overs. Ryan and Tim kept the runs ticking over until Ryan (40) skied a pull shot 107/3 off 22. At 33 overs we were 144/4 only needing 80 off the last 17 overs at just over 4 per over. Atse then hit one to long off for 14 and Tim (38) hit a full toss to mid on - self destruction in one easy lesson. Binsy went lbw for 6, Sham and Willy went for ducks and Shazzie went out for the first time this year and we were 171 all out off 43 overs.
R15 – HBS v VCC 5th August 2007 – Partnership the key! We were missing four players from last week, Atse (Nederland's duty), Zafar (Work), Binsy (Holidays) and Shazzie (injured) so we took half the seconds side (Halliday, Moran, Faqiri and Dormits) much to the disgust of Sean. I won the toss and chose to bat. Sham opened with John. John was out playing on and Sham was a little unluckily lbw, 24/2 off 6. Ryan was quick off the blocks (30 vs. Tim's 12) but a few sixes later it was Ryan 37 to Tim's 36. Ryan then took the initiative and passed 50, the hundred run partnership came along before Ryan edged one to be out for 70 of 95 balls. Don't worry about nervous nineties for Ryan - it seems to be nervous sixty and seventies! Rafi came in and was attacking from the start. He looked very comfortable until Tim called a run off a misfield and the throw hit the stumps with Rafi out for 21 (171/4 off 36 overs). Tim tried to go over the top one too many and was caught on the boundary for 75 off 99 balls (198/6 off 42 overs). Dave Dormits hit a huge six before also holing out on the boundary for 21 off 23 balls (213/7 off 44 overs). The last three didn't last long and we were out in the 47th over (!!) for 221, hopefully Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 24
inability to bat the 50 overs would not cost us the game. Will Halliday opened the bowling with Tim. At drinks HBS were 38/0 off 12 overs - (Will got 27 off his 5 overs). Adriaan followed Will and picked up two wickets but Hopkins and Stelling took a liking to Adriaan (36/2 off 6). Tamin replaced Tim and bowled with good rhythm and finished 29 off his 8 overs. Ryan was bowling well at the other end without luck before Stelling hit a drive down the pitch and Ryan neatly deflected the ball onto the stumps and ran out their coach for 69 and the score was 102/3. Rafi then got another lbw from umpire Kamerbeek, 102/4. Will Halliday took a brilliant catch at short backward square leg and HBS were 131/5. Ryan took a well deserved wicket with another catch by Will and HBS were 152/6. Tim followed Rafi and took another wicket 155/7 off 40 overs. The run rate had sneaked up to 7 runs an over but Stelling was still there and Ryan had finished his spell (38/1 off 10). Sham came on and got a wicket in his second over, and then a third an over latter 196/9. HBS needed 26 off just over 2 overs. Sham (19/2 off 3) bowled 5 wides down the leg side. The next ball dropped at the batsmen's feet with Stelling charging both batsmen were at one end. John lobbed the ball to Ryan at the stumps but Sham intercepted the ball and missed the stumps from 3 yards! 16 needed off 2 overs. The first ball of the penultimate over went for six - 10 off 11 balls, a tie was possible but they were nine wickets down. Stelling took the single, Kamerbeek gave the plumiest lbw for the day and we won. Tim finished with 23/2 off 9.3 overs, Tamin 29/3 off 8 overs and Rafi 2/31 off 7 overs.
12-8 VCC 1 - VOC 1 VOC won the toss and chose to bat. They made 257 due to a partnership by Bas Zuiderent (102) and their player- coach Xavier Doherty (63). Adriaan (3-53) bowled well and Tim (0-33) was economical as ever. When we were 135/6, nobody fancied our chances but Sham Chaudhry (31) and Wilfred Diepeveen (25) offered good resistance and gave excellent support to Rafi who batted brilliantly for his 73. Unfortunately our tailenders were unable to finish the good work (VCC 222 all out), ut ou e e ge ould e s eet see The pla offs - hat a eeke d below!).
R17 – VCC v VVV 19th August 2007 – Atse’s day! I lost the toss again but VVV like to chase so we batted first. Zafar went early and Ryan got his second duck for the season and we were 5/2. Bukhari, following his recent success on the international stage, was bowling well with his partner Akram. Runs were had to come by in the first 10 overs (17/2) but once the change bowlers came on Rafi and John consolidated to be 47/2 at drinks after 16 overs. John went for 36 (67/3 after 20). Tim was in his customary toilet stop at this time so Atse took to the bowling immediately. Rafi was 25 not out when Atse came in ut it as ot lo g efo e oth ats e e e i the id s i a a e to the fi st of the i i gs. Rafi o the race to 50 off 89 balls but lost the race when Atse called for a quick single (Rafi s third run out this season). Atse and Rafi put together another good partnership 82 then Atse holed out for 62 off 72 balls, a welcome return to fo / off o e s . We e ded up ith as a o petiti e s o e o side i g R a a d Ti did t o the scorers. Tim got the first breakthrough caught in front of first slip by Atse and Zafar got the next wicket soon after 32/2. Tim finally got Nolan Clarke going over the top once too often and VVV were 49/3. Adriaan followed Zafar (22/1 off 6) and got VVV s sta ats e Sadi aught ehi d Atse. Ad iaa also got VVV s oa h / a d VVV were beaten. Adriaan (26/2 off 6) was followed by Rafi (9/2 off 4.4) whilst Ryan (16/2 off 6) followed Tim 25/2 off10) to clean up the tail. The last wicket was a run out by Tim to Atse and VVV was all out for 103. A 105 run victory and man of the match Atse - with 62 runs, 3 catches, a run out and a stumping.
R18 – Hermes v VCC 26th August 2007 – The play-offs thanks to Tim! Another toss lost but we still got to do what we wanted – bat first. Zafar went early for 15. Ryan came in and was in control until the first change bowler got one to stop on the wicket and he hit a soft catch to short cover (42/2 after 12 overs). Rafi went lbw first ball after drinks. John stayed around for the next ten overs to make 33 (78/4 off 26 overs). Atse and Sham followed soon after and we were in trouble at 90/6 off 30 overs. Willy was promoted up the order to stop the rot, played defensively and got us up to 40 overs. Tim at the other end was milking the occasional single and we got to 109/6, the previous 10 overs only produced 19 runs but importantly no wickets were lost. Once the 40 over mark came Tim hit a few boundaries and suddenly Hermes put the field out for Tim and Willy. Willy, who had only made 4 runs in the previous 10 overs, was now able to pick up more singles, giving Tim the strike and overs were producing 7 or 8 runs with a boundary and 3 singles or the occasional 2. It was around the 47th over when Willy was out for 14 valuable runs and the score was 155/7, a partnership of 65 runs. The last 3 and a bit overs went for 32 runs, Binsy made 9 off 9 and Tim had to settle with a chanceless 93* off 96 balls and VCC ended up with 187/7. A great result from 109/6 after 40 overs on a slow ground. Zafar had good pace and rhythm and a huge inswinging yorker trapped Joshi in front (an inside edge was not going to worry the umpire). It took some time before the next wicket with Zafar bowling another toe crusher 24/2. Tim was Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 25
unplayable at the other end and Statham was letting every ball go. Tim finally got his reward when the batsmen clipped Tim to Sham at square leg 42/3. Sham replaced Zafar and got Statham bowled and Hermes were 42/4 off 16 overs at drinks. Tim finished his spell with 10 overs 7 maidens 14 runs for 1 wicket. Adriaan replaced Tim and started with three wides and was getting too much swing (15/0 off 3). Sham got his second wicket, bowling Seelaar (47/5), and finished his 10 overs with 25/2. The spin twins were now bowling with Rafi following Adriaan and Ryan follo i g Sha . The s o e p og essed to efo e Rafi / off oke th ough / . A u out i R a s e t over and a wicket to Ryan (28/1 off 5) reduced Hermes to 118/9. Zafar replaced Ryan and got his third wicket first ball and finished with 22/3 off 7.1 overs. Great bowling effort from Tim, Sham and Zafar, supported by the fielders reduced Hermes to 124 all out.
The playoffs – What a weekend Who said the toss was important - I lost for the fourth or fifth week in a row so we were put in on an over used pitch with large holes were the bowlers footmarks were and as dry as the Sahara desert. Tim brought out one of the darkest balls I have seen and we were able to get two quick wickets which exposed Zuiderent and Doherty. The wind shifted and I swapped ends with Tim and Zafar. Their line was immaculate and Tim got 16/1 off his ten overs. Sham followed Zafar but got hit for 24 off his first 5 overs and Bas and Doherty were taking control. They got to 83 when Adriaan got the vital breakthrough getting Bas caught by Atse at the wicket 83/3. Adriaan finished with 1/22 off his 5 overs, again expensive but always gets a wicket; he could have had two if Sham had taken a difficult chance off Doherty. The spin twins came on and it was not long before Ryan got Daan Everdingen out caught by Adriaan, who passed it to John who finally tapped it up to Atse - a 3 way catch 99/4. Ryan bowled well but couldn't get Doherty out, although a missed stumping and a sharp chance at leg slip went begging. Ryan finished with 32/1 off his 10. The breakthrough final came when Rafi bowled Doherty for 68 and a wicket next ball (145/6) to finish with 30/2 off 9 overs. The last four wickets fell cheaply with Zafar (35/3 off 10) picking up two wickets and Sham picking up the last one. We had done well to restrict them from 145/4 were a score of over 200 was on the cards.
John opened with Zafar who put paid to John and Ryan by running them out (38/2). Zafar didn't quite get over it and was also out soon after for 27 (52/3 off 16 overs). Rafi was in good form before he tried to cut Doherty and was caught behind for 14 (72/4). Atse again looked good and scored a quick 18 before a soft C&B and suddenly we were 104/5 after 30 overs. The next 10 overs only realised 21 runs as Wilfred and Tim consolidated and we needed 43 off the last 10 overs. Willy went out in the 41st over and Sham followed soon after for a duck and the game was slipping away at 126/7. Binsy started nervously with a leading edge to where cover should have been and then edged between the keeper and first slip but Binsy and Tim started to get the scoreboard going. They had put on 30 in 6 overs and we needed 10 off 3 overs. A maiden from Doherty to Tim with 4 on the boundary meant we needed 10 off 2 overs. Two dot balls, two singles and a two and the target was 5 off 7 balls. The last ball of the over went for four and we had won, or so I thought, one run off the last over - how easy is that! Binsy wanted to finish it early and went down the wicket and forgot to hit the ball. Dormits went for a slog sweep and skied it to square leg but Tim had crossed so was facing the next ball. A quicker one from Doherty had Tim also sweeping and as Tim was looking for the leg bye the umpire stuck his finger up and it was a tie. We had lost as VOC finished above us at the end of the season. As we shake hands with the VOC players and they said "Tot Morgen" and then we realised we had another chance the next day.
The next day we were a bit stiff and sore and a few people didn't sleep well from their shots from the previous day. We saw that there was a new track prepared overnight, from the Sahara desert the day before we came across a good looking turf wicket, nice and hard with only minor cracks in it. The toss was no different, same Greek coin, on landing it rolled along the wicket, same as Saturday, and landed on heads, pity I called tails twice in a row. I need to put in my Diary that Bas always spins heads. VOC decided to use our tactic of using a hitter of the ball as an opener but Zafar put paid to that idea in his second over. Tim got Bas Zuiderent lbw soon after and Doherty was caught behind off Zafar and VOC were 33/3 and "mum and dad" were out. Dan Everdingen joined van Ierschot and got to 66 when Rafi got Maarten well caught by Ryan (66/4). Some clumsy fielding and Zafar dropped a difficult chance off Dan when the 21 year old was only 24 runs meant the score progressed to 100. Finally Ryan got his reward when Flo, fielding for a sore Zafar, took a catch (100/5) Sham (32/1 off 9) got a wicket and VOC were 112/6. On yesterday's form we could have got them out under 150 but it was not to be as young Dan made 85 with some help from the tail and some overthrows. Still it was a "220" wicket and we were happy with chasing only 200, although it could have been 170. Zafar (42/3) and Tim (35/3) were the main wicket takers with the rest sharing one wicket apiece
Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 26
No run outs this time with clear calling and some nice shots and the openers put on 50 in eight overs and it was not long before Doherty was in the attack and he struck in his second over getting John out for 19 (54/1). Ryan hit Doherty's second ball for 4 and the message was sent to VOC. Ryan and Zafar put on the second 50 run partnership in a row and we were 104/1 after 26 overs, still needing 4 runs per over but seemingly well in control. Zafar finally went for a very well made 58, and some ear plugs following the verbal abuse from Bas Zuiderent. Tim went lbw soon after smashing one onto his pads; unfortunately the umpire didn't see or hear it. The same umpire gave him lbw twice in two days so he won't be on Tim's Christmas card list. 123/3 still not in bad shape as long as Ryan stayed there. Then one of the strangest things happened Ryan was given not out by the umpire for a caught behind decision, but then square leg got the umpires attention and nodded to him to give Ryan out so the umpire changed his mind 141/3 after 35 overs. Rafi and Atse were now in together and as Atse said "it's now time to take on some responsibility" and they did by progressing the score to 171 before Rafi played a loose shot to Doherty and was out for 26. Binsy came in and continued from the day before playing aggressively. Atse was playing Doherty out and the pair knocked off the runs and the score got to 200 after 48 overs. In Doherty's last over, guess what Binsy decided to do - win it off his own bat and again was bowled by Doherty going for the winning runs (200/6). Willy played the next three balls off Doherty's last over, despite a confident lbw shout; we needed one run off the final over. Atse put paid to any concerns with an on drive and two days off cricket was separated by 5 balls and one run. Great team effort on both days and we deserve a place in the final.
The final -- 9th September Pre game comments - Looking at VRA's side they seem to be weaker than last time we played them - losing both times in the last over. VRA are missing T Groot (opening batsmen), Eric Viking Szwarczynski (no 3 batsman and bowler) so they have lost two batsmen and with Adeel Raja at No7 their batting depth is not so strong. Their bowling relies on Borren, Bhatti (who got 0/53 on the weekend), Leemhuis, Raja and Panchal with Brown filling in as a sixth bowler, again not strong. In our two losses Murray made ~90 and ~100 and we gave him a number of chances, we take our catches him then we win. Borren is Ryan's bunny and Maron is a threat, although he opens the batting and is subject to Zafar's pace so he will be exposed early. We have also improved our batting strength since the last game with Binsy and Dormits coming in at the expense of Shazzie and Will At ACC's ground we made 228, VRA made 7/60 chasing ACC's 59 so it can be assumed that we are better suited to the wicket than they are. We have a great chance on Saturday but fielding will be the key.
The ground was in great shape but we unfortunately lost the toss and were fielding. The key was to get early wickets and we had our chances. Ryan Maron was dropped by Willy at second slip when he was 10 and again by Tim when he was only 20. The opening spell by Tim and Zafar was good and Adriaan came on first change and got the first wicket 41/1. Tim finished his 10 overs for an economic 23 runs. Sham came on and got the second wicket but was expensive (25/1 off 4) the score was up to 72/2. Murray and Ryan Maron put on a partnership and got the score up to 133 when Rafi came on and got Murray caught by Atse. Adriaan in the meantime had bowled a pearler off a spell 29/1 off 10 overs, considering the quickness of the ground, the quality of the batsmen and 10 runs off one over! Ryan followed Adriaan and with mid on and off both up Borren took a liking to Ryan and went over the top t i e i a o . I thought a out putti g id off a k ut did t a d Borren went for a third time but missed. R a follo ed up ith a othe i ket a d e e e sta ti g to halt VRA s s o i g. Zafa epla ed Rafi / / a d o led a ag ifi e t spell of o e s a d pi ked up i kets to fi ish ith his fi st fo / off 8.5 overs and VRA were out for 199, a great effort as they were looking at a score of over 250 at one stage.
John and Zafar started confidently but Zafar chased a wide one and was first to go (13/1). Ryan joined John and after hitting a four Ryan was caught at id o t i g to pull o that just as t the e / . Joh a d Rafi consolidated and got the score to 58 at drinks off 18 overs. John went soon after for 26 but when Rafi went next ball for 19 VCC were 64/4. Tim and Atse were the new batsmen and looked comfortable playing VRA. They had put on 20 runs when Atse ran on the strength of his shot, unfortunately straight to Murray and was run out (84/5). Another 20 runs was put on by Binsy and Tim when Bins was also brilliantly caught trying to go over the top 105/7. Willy was the next batsman and again he supported Tim, for a while before he was freakishly bowled. Will had played the ball down but it deflected of the edge of the footmarks and spun back onto the stumps (129/7, luck was not on our side and another 24 run partnership. Sham was the next to support Tim and he stayed around a lot longer. This time they had got the partnership to 40 and we were 169/7 with 31 runs needed of the last 4 overs to win the match. Tim was 67* and with Sham in double figures we looked half a chance. Unfortunately Tim patted back a half tracker off Panchel and was out caught and bowled. Dave Dormits came and went whilst Sham tried in ai fi all goi g out fo . We had ade off o e s a d just sho t of VRA a total. enough as the support kept disappearing at the wrong time – that s i ket. On reflection a great year and with the team sticking together next year we could go one better.
final: Ryan bowlt
Special thanks to :- Pat Moon for again supporting us during the year and keeping the scorebook in immaculate form. Jack Kingma (not for forgetting the pineapple and mango each week) but for his wisdom and encouragement during the games. the supporters, who stuck with us early in the season, were there during the tense semi final weekend and during the finals, they were by far the best supporters.
Stats for the year The first eleven used 19 players this year with first timers Sham, Will Halliday, Sean Trouw and long time between drinks for Dave Dormits and Ed Loomans, all helping out when required. Voorburg made 3,120 runs this year at an average of 165 runs per innings (2006 – 2,787 @147rpi) but in the bowling were the largest improvements, 154 wickets at 7.7 wickets per game compared to 107 wickets @ 5.35 wickets per game.
Movers & Shakers since last year Tim de Leede had a great season with the bat making 617 runs @ 38.6 and a strike rate over 90 (283 @ 19 in 2006) with the best score of 93 no against Hermes. Tim got 29 wickets @18.6 and an economy rate of 3.02/over. In 2006 Tim only got 16 wickets @25. Zafar Gondel was a marked improvement with both bat and ball. He made 358 runs @ 27.5 with a strike rate over 90 (106 @ 11 in 2006). Zafar led the wickets with 32 wickets @13.6 and eco rate of 3.27 (12 in 2006) including career best 5/35 in the final. Zafar only played 16 of the 20 games this season. Mohamed Rafi also had a marked improvement with bat and ball. He made 477 runs @ 26.5 and a strike rate of 70 (261 @ 19 in 2006) barring a number of run outs could have been better. It was in the bowling where the greatest improvement with 29 wickets @ 19.0 and eco rate of 3.94 (12 in 2006). With Adele moving on Rafi definitely stepped up to the plate. Ryan Leloux had a similar year with the bat 594 runs @33 and a strike rate of 73 (2006 527 runs @33) but with less turning (matting) wickets the bowling suffered a bit, 22 wickets @29.6 and eco rate of 4.3 (2006 – 30 @18.4). R a s fieldi g as agai e eptio al hi h is ot sho i the stats. John Sist had his best year with the bat 338 @ 18 (2006 – 216 @ 18) including a 50 against VVV and 11 catches. Adriaan Kroonenberg had a great year with the ball with 20 wickets @ 23.7 (2006 – 9 @56) with a great 4/16 against Hermes and great bowling in the final. Atse Buurman had a disappointing year with the bat (203 @ 13.5) after his strong finish in 2006 (411 @ 31.6) but his glove work was great with 25 catches and 5 stumpings (2006 – 15/5). Binsy did not live up to his 2006 form (274 @19.6) with only 101 @ 10 but was able to play two important innings, the first in the win against Hermes, second in the tie v VOC. Willy also struggled when given a couple of chances at the top of the order and finished with 126 runs @ 8.4 (2006 – @ . ut as i st u e tal i the pa t e ship ith Ti agai st He es. Will s took so e good at hes towards the end of the year to finish with 9 catches. Sham Chaudry had a good first year after starting on fire with the bat with 69* against VRA but struggle during the rest of the year and finished with 188 @ 13.4. His bowling was the stronger part of his game with 19 wickets @21.4 and a eco rate of 4.24. Dave Dormits came into the side late in the year and made an impressive 21 against HBS to finish with 33 @ 6.6 but his fielding added strength to the side. Shazzie Anwar had a disappointing year with back injuries and work commitments restricting his year to only 3 wickets @ 81 but did make 23 runs – one more than last year. Thanks to Floris Kingma, Will Halliday, Tamin Faqiri, Peter Moran, Sean Trouw, Ed Loomans and Harold Vogelaar for filling out during the year.
Another year gone but with so much potential in the side next year could be better. A new clubhouse, better practise facilities, a turf(?) wicket, an Aussie coach and some new players could mean VCC are Hoofklasse champions in 2008.

What a year for cricket this has been! The firsts made the play-off final, our new ground was finished and the club house has been started. And the best news of all for us cricket lovers was that we are getting the grass wicket at the end of the next season.
For the seconds it was very much a mixed bag this year. We had a new captain in Sean Trouw and a relatively young team. The team spirit was great this season and the boys seemed to enjoy most of the games.
The season started out against Olympia and would set the trend for the season. One of the highlights of the season was when Gijs Bins played a truly awesome innings smashing the bowlers all round the park and made 57 before giving his wicket away in what would be his only game for the 2nd s. We lost the ga e u s. A ha d lesso learnt and some valuable experience gained for the youngsters and our new captain.
That next game proved to be the closest of encounters. We played Punjab away and won on the last ball. Edward Loomans bowling really well but not having much luck as the fielding let us down and then in the batting Bilal made a sterling innings of 40 to guide us home on the last ball.
The season also threw up some controversy which naturally added to the drama of a season that could have been so much more. There was the run out incident against Punjab at home that involved the batsmen getting mixed up with his runner and being run out but the decision not being given. A turning point in the game and they went on to win.
Edward Loomans proved to be a revelation this season and bowled extremely well and ended up being the top wicket taker in the squad, taki g i kets at a e o o ate of . po. If the fieldi g as up to s at h Eddie could have won us the league on his own. Tamin Faqiri also had a good season with the ball taking 15 wickets at 3.4 rpo. The rest chipped in well but were just not consistent enough. Tarick Weber also deserves mention as he really improved with every game through the season.
On the batting front Dave Dormits was our rock and topped the averages with an average of 40.38 and a top score of 69 no. He was consistent in the middle order and when he moved up to the 1st team we missed him sorely. Sean Trouw and Dave Dormits proved to be a good combination in the middle order and made a few good partnerships. Sean Trouw was runner up in the averages with an average of 33.40 and a top score of 63. Harold Vogelaar also had a good seaso o should e sa a good sta t a d a good e d. Ha topped the s o i g ith the highest s o e of 88 no and in that innings managed to smash a six and one of the opposing teams car window. It was spectacular to see. A d e Othie o s a as o e ehi d it a d he tu ed a shade of hite as he at hed the all sail th ough the air. He then proceeded to move his car. Wise decision! Floris Kingma also had a good season and matured with every innings. He made a good 52 against CCN. He is one for the future if he keeps his head screwed on right.
On the whole we did well as a team but what impressed me the most was the youth that came through. We had a lot of them in and around the team and they all did exceptionally well. I really admired their energy and determination when they played. They are keen to learn and add their own personal touch to the team. You boys all know who you are and I want to send out a special thanks to you all for helping us out this season. May we meet again next year.
For most of the season we were in and around the top 3 places in the league but towards the end we lost the way and a few players and ended tied fourth. A really great achievement with the youth that we had coming through and this will stand us in good stead for next season when, if we have the same team we should be pushing for promotion.
Next season we need to be just a little more focused and we have more than enough talent to gain promotion. So will see you all in the nets next season and lets make the next, one to remember!
Sean Trouw

6 mei VCC 2 - Olympia 0-2 Eerstbattend maakt Olympia 182/5. Peter Moran 23, Gijs Bins 57, Bilal Sarfaraz 21*
13 mei Punjab - VCC 2 0-2 Punjab komt tot 235, waarvan de nummer 7, S. Gul 108. We geven 54 ext a s eg aa o de ides…
17 mei VCC 2 - Bloemendaal 1 0-2 Snel vergeten.
Peter Moran 43, Bilal Sarfaraz 21.
28 mei VOC 2 - VCC 2 verr.
Tamim Faqiri 4- o lt fu ieus. Floris Kingma 38.
5 augustus VCC 2 - VOC 2 0-2 Het debuut van Tom Bollemeijer in VCC 2. VCC maakt er helaas slechts 98 all out.
26 augustus VOC 2 - VCC 2 2-0 Geen goede seizoensafsluiting helaas, VCC 142 (Peter Moran, 23 Bilal Sarfaraz 36), VOC 147/4.

VCC 3 in 2007
13 May 2007: VCC 3 – Pakistan CC 1 2-0 When one plays against a Pakistani team in 3A, one can always verify a number of prejudices: 1. Cricket is a family business 2. There are at least five captains 3. They change their field after every single delivery 4. They bring their own delightful music which is particularly enjoyable for the one(s) fielding close to the boundary 5. One is certain to watch some brilliant batting and slightly less brilliant bowling and fielding All these prejudices proved correct. Batting first at the beautiful Aloysius College ground, Pakistan CC made a decent 217. Satheesan Ramakrishnan deserved better than his 1-64 off 10; the pick of the bowlers was veteran Mike Vroom with 3-38 off 10, Tim Foster taking a good catch at cover. We did ot aste a ti e hasi g Pakista s s o e i spite of see i gl th eate i g ope i g o le s alled I a a d Wa a . Afte o e s e e e / i ludi g a huge u e of ides. Dinesh Joshi 32* and Phiroze Mogrelia 18* finished it off in a professional way with a number of overs to spare, helped by no less than 55 wides.
17 mei 2007: Sparta 3 – VCC 3 0-2 - Tom Bollemeijer (14) picks up 4-13 on debut for VCC 3 VCC 3 played a remarkable game against Sparta 3. The ground brought back happy memories as Sparta 1 (score of + eat ACC he e i to e su e VCC s p o otio to the Hoofdklasse. Ou at h ho e e as not of such a high standard. Thanks to David Cousins for arranging a brilliant 11th man; 14 year old promising youngster Tom Bollemeijer took a fantastic 4-13 with his legspinners. His first wicket: c Ewen (55) b Bollemeijer (14); a one and a half generation difference! Good catches by Frits Nossbaum at point and Andy Collingwood in the covers, Mike off his own bowling (of course) and two by skipper Colin Ewen. Sparta were all out for 111. We did not start off very well, losing 4 or 5 early wickets but a patient Tim Foster (14*) and Mike Vroom (22*) brought us our second consecutive victory.
20 May 2007 VCC3 v Hermes3 Hermes too were so far undefeated in our league. We won the toss and decided to field. Hans Boerstra and Marc Nota opened and both bowled a great li e a d le gth.. Ma s se o d all got a edge a d as aught ehi d Rehan. Their umpire saw nothing and heard nothing. After 11 overs and with a run rate of 3 per over, Colin brought on Tom. He teased their opening bat to hit out and was caught by Andy at deep point. After 23 overs, Hermes were 88 for 1 when the heavens opened up. The match was abandoned and rescheduled for 7 July.
27 May 2007: VCC3 v Concordia 1 On an overcast day, Dinesh won the toss and decided to field. We had Andrew Othieno and William Halliday from VCC2 and Tom Bollemeijer and Philip Kingma from VCC5. Donny and Phiroze were given the new ball. They both bowled poorly and their No. 1 bat took full advantage. A smart bit of fielding by William in the covers broke their opening partnership. William and Andrew Mostert bowled next but both were too good for them. The batsmen kept getting edges that always missed our slip cordon. At 100 for 2, run rate at almost 8 runs an over and their Number 1 still not out, I brought in the spinners. This ploy reduced the run rate and the pressure resulted in a run Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 36
out by Andrew O. We kept the strike away from their No. 1 bat and in frustration he tried to hit Tom out of the ground. The ball went straight up and was caught expertly by Philip. (He had scored 91 runs out of 140). Their incoming captain was a good bat but not good enough for Mikey (another C&B). Philip then was given an opportunity to bowl and he picked up two wickets. A stumping by Rehan and two further run outs saw Concordia all out for 185 runs in 33 overs. A good fightback by us! After lunch, we got off to a disastrous start. Andy was run out off the very first ball. Andrew Othieno and Dinesh played sensibly developing a partnership of 93 runs before Dinesh was stumped (40). Andrew (41) and Rehan (34) carried on the momentum, both playing good aggressive shots. Phiroze and William saw us safely home with five overs to spare. 3 games played and the 100% record still intact.
28 May 2007: IBIS2 v VCC3 IBIS too had won all their games to date. We were expecting a tough match. We recognised some of their key players. They usually play for IBIS1 who were promoted last season. It was a sunny day and a very small ground. IBIS, like Pakistan CC have big hitters and we were expecting to chase a high score. Donny started well and managed to get an edge from their opening bat but was dropped. It could have been a costly miss but however Dinesh managed to get him in the next over with a simple catch to Patrick at long off. Donny continued to bowl aggressively (8-30-3) and got their best batsman out (a high catch safely held by Kaki). Brains masterminded the field settings and rotated the bowlers effectively. The spinners (Mikey, Philip & Tom) worked their magic. With two wickets a piece and with eight catches in the field, we demolished IBIS2. They were all out for 81 runs in 23.3 overs. Rob and Rehan went into bat. Rob played some wonderful shots. Rehan scored 10 before he was C&B with the score on 26. Boy Santos came in next and scored a quick 18 runs before he was bowled. Rob was batting well and it looked like they would never get him out in the conventional way. However, a misunderstanding between him and Tom resulted in his run out. It was nice to see Phillip dance down the wicket and hit their bowler for a four to go past their score in the 22nd over. A good all round team performance.
10 June 2007: VCC3 v Excelsior3 It was an overcast day with a small chance of rain later. Having won the toss we should have fielded. Excelsior had only won a single game this season and on paper they were very much the underdogs. Colin decided to bat (gently persuaded by Kaki and Dinesh). Their bowling attack was not weak. Rehan was out LBW having scored 9 runs. Kaki got a nick but was dropped. He played some aggressive shots square of the wicket before being bowled for 21. Andy was given out LBW for a golden duck. Dinesh (10) quickly followed. Phiroze was given caught behind after facing only one ball (he claims it was his leg guard). At 48 for 5, we looked in deep trouble and the decision to bat was perhaps misfiring. Donny and Andrew Mostert steadied the ship but the run rate was very low. Donny tried to up the tempo and was caught having scored 12 runs. Mikey came in and immediately hit their spinner for a huge 6 followed by a four. This encouraged Andrew to hit out too. He top scored with 34 valuable runs and Mikey managed 22. At run a ball, Anu scored a quick 20 and we finish our 40 overs with Excelsior needing 149 to win. This was a defendable score if we bowled well. Donny opened and as last week, the opening bat was dropped behind the stumps. This time, Andy came to the rescue and had the same batsmen out in the very next over (great catch by Kaki again). At the other end, Donny was not giving away a single run. Andy bowled great out swingers. Brains brought himself in as an extra slip and was rewarded with a sharp catch to get rid of other opener. Another maiden for Donny and superb fielding at silly point by Colin increased the pressure on the away team. A low full toss by Andy hit the base of the stumps but the ball was judged to be above waist height by their umpire. Mikey replaced Andy but he missed out on two C&B that are normally bread and butter to him. Another maiden for Donny and he finished with unbelievable figures of 10- 5-7-1. After 20 overs, they had only 37 runs for 3 down. We were back on top. Andrew Mostert bowled with a lot of enthusiasm claiming three wickets. Anu in his first match for VCC3 got 2 and Tom got one wicket but could have easily had 3. Phiroze cleaned up and Excelsior were all out for 76 in 32 overs. 5 wins out of 5. 17 juni 2007 : WCRhoon 2 - VCC 3 0-2 Wederom een eenzijdige affaire. VCC 3: 235/ 6, met Mike 22*, Dinesh 46, Patrick 52 en ferocious Phiroze 66*. We knikkerden Rhoon uit voor 96. Donny Maharaj 2 wickets, Andy C 1 wicket. Colin Ewen 1, Mike 1 (st Nossbaum), Dinesh 2 v 0 in 1, Phiroze 1, Andrew Mostert 1 w, 1 r.o. (Rob); Rehan 2 catches, Mike 1 catch in de gully (where else).
24 juni Pak CC - VCC 3 verregend Pak CC maakte eel u s, zo i o e s.
1 juli 2007: VCC 3 – Sparta 3 302 – 99 2-0 In hindsight it was a funny thing that stand-in captain Patrick had his doubts batting first. The weather was bound to improve in the course of the day, so to many players it was a big relief that Patrick won the toss and decided to at. We sta ted ith Satheesa Ra ak ish a a d Ro d A o a. Satheesh spoo ed o e up i the air, soon to be followed by Rob. Stand-in players Hans Boerstra and Marek Molenbuur did a wonderful job lifting the score to 150 - 160, both scoring 63 runs quickly. Our middle order failed, apart from Rehan Raja who scored a solid 27 to bring the score to 220/9. Numbers 10 and 11, veterans Mike Vroom and Patrick de Leede, had a little party between them, both finding the boundary on numerous occasions and scoring 48 and 40 respectively in the process, adding so e u s fo the last i ket a e e o d eati g the o e f o Ma k Steffelaa a d Pat i k s youngest brother Mark!). Sparta 3 now faced a challenging target of 302. Logically they never got close, due to two catches from Ajay Sharma, one from Mike in the gully and fantastic one handed catches by Marek Molenbuur and Patrick de Leede. Youngster Usama Liaqat bowled well, so did Ajay, Phiroze and Rehan. It has to be said we hardly missed Satheesan Ramakrishnan who went to collect a bicycle but strangely enough never returned to the game! A true team player, or should we say family man?...
7 juli 2007: VCC 3 - Hermes 3 2-0 Saturday 07/07/07 was expected to be a memorable day as VCC 3 took on co-leaders Hermes DVS 3. Sadly it proved a bit of an anti-climax as we bowled them out for 92. In reply we only lost one wicket before passing their eag e s o e. Ro d A o a did ell ith a flue t . Patrick 42*. Before that, our bowlers had done the damage, especially Andy Collingwood who got 3-8! Second team regulars Steffen Mulder and Raza Sharif also joined in with 2 wickets apiece, while Hans Spekkie Boerstra was steady as ever (1-16 off 10!). It was a pity that Hermes did not do better and set us a challenging target.
8 juli 2007: Concordia 1 - VCC 3 0-2 One day later we went to Concordia. They only managed to score 112 including 25 VCC wides (a bit too many, gentlemen!). Skipper Ewen used no less than 9 bowlers. Youngster Anu Mudannayake was our most successful bowler with 2-7. Ajay Sharma was reliable as ever with 1-6 and old men Ewen and Vroom also picked up one each. Battingwise Rob managed his (until now) par score of 21, Marc Nota finishing things off with a solid 37*. VCC 3 are leader of the pack: played nine, won nine.
Ro d A o a i iede ge al el, a t dit zou zij wedstrijd worden.
Daa a k a Pat i k de Leede de oe a , 47).
Mike 60*, Dinesh 33*.
19 augustus 2007: VCC 3 - WCR 2 2 -0 Natuurlijk wilde iedereen tegen WCR 2 graag eerst batten. Eerst fielden dus, oei… Zo overs later was Rhoon all out voor 71 runs. Yves Nota, Mike Vroom, Donny Maharaj. VCC 3 IS KAMPIOEN!!!
VCC 3 in 2007: kampioen van de klasse 3A. Staand v.l.n.r. Luuk de Leede, Colin Ewen, Donny Maharaj, Dinesh Joshi, Andy Collingwood, Mike Vroom. Voorste rij: Marek Molenbuur, Patrick de Leede, Yves Nota, Viv Kingma. Op de foto ontbreken Rob d A o a e Phiroze Mogrelia.
Of werden zij gesponsord?...

Daarom sloegen we massaal over long hops heen en lagen onze stokken eruit. Good old Spekkie Boerstra (2-8) bowlde ondanks zijn 42 jaren fantastisch.

VCC 3 players
What a great season we had. Last year we finished second. This year we finished top having won ALL our games. We lost a fe pla e s a d gai ed a fe e fa es a d so e of last ea s pa t ti e s e a e egula s. As a esult, we had a very consistent side made up of 9 regular players with specialist bowlers and specialist batmen. The team spirit I talked about last year reached new heights this season.
Our typical batting line up was as follows:
1) Patrick de Leede (Kaki)
There is no one more passionate or motivated about cricket in our side than Kaki. Kaki normally opens and always provides a good foundation for the rest of the team. Kaki wants to involve everybody and so when he captained against Sparta, he put himself in last. In that game, his partnership of 85 runs with Mikey broke the club record. In the field, the ball somehow tends to follows him. With a total of 13 catches, he took more catches than even our wicketkeeper. The best ones were against Sparta, diving full stretch to his right fielding at long on, and against Excelsior when fielding at long on, he ran over 20 meters and dived forward to grab the ball inches above the ground. Kaki also gives good advice, such as when Phiroze asked Gu s, he I o l eithe too full o too sho t a ou please tell e? Kaki eplied Do t o Phi oz, the bats a ill tell ou.
2) Ro d’A o a
Rob played a few games last year but promised to play more this year. What a superb contribution he has made both with the bat and with the gloves behind the stumps. Like Kaki, he has made over 300 runs. The Thirds have ot had a e tu io fo a lo g ti e a d it as o de ful to see Ro s a oth i i gs of agai st IBIS . Ro is a true gent. In the away game against IBIS2, Rob was batting well but he sacrificed his own wicket in a run out so that young Tom Bollemeijer could carry on batting. What a wonderful gesture. Against Hermes, Kaki admiringly told Ro You hit ou pull shots ell! Ro : What s a pull shot?
3) Dinesh Joshi
I Coli s a se e, Di esh fills i as aptai . He likes to get i ol ed in all aspects of cricket, on and off the field. He is a regular at the nets and tries to encourage both the youngsters and the seniors to attend more frequently. He now prefers batting to bowling and has scored over two hundred runs this season. The highlight of his season was the one-hand catch he took diving full length to his right against PakCC. He has still not forgiven Brains for letting him bowl only ONE over even though that over was a double wicket maiden. Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 40
4) Andy Collingwood
Andy came into the side after an absence of 18 years from cricket. He is truly committed to cricket. He trains at least three times a week. Andy came into the side as a batsman, but soon made his mark as a bowler. His outswingers made life very difficult for the opposition. His best contribution was against Hermes in the crunch ga e fo the ha pio ship. He o led o e s fo u s a d got i kets. A d s d se se of hu ou al a s e te tai s the tea . Fo i sta e, Phi oz, hilst looki g at the PakCC side said, These guys have Imran, Waqar and Shoaib -- I ot su e that this is a fai o test A d eplied So hat? We ha e Colli g ood.
5) Phiroze Mogrelia (Pherocious)
Phiroze has had a difficult year with the ball and certainly lacked consistency. Even so, he still managed to get 14 wickets. One wonders how many more wickets he would have taken had he been on top form. With the bat, Phiroze has certainly improved. He comes in the middle order and accelerates the run rate. He played extremely well against Rhoon2 where he top scored with 66*. With Phiroze in our side, you can be certain that there will e e e a dull o e t as he has a o e t fo ost i ide ts. Fo i sta e he asked Mikey, are these guys bowling so well or are we treating them with too much respect?
6) Rehan Raja
Rehan joined us this year from PakCC. He is a good allrounder. He can bat in almost any position, bowls leggies and dhoosras and also keeps wicket. Rahan has a lot of potential and initially used to train regularly. However due to family/work/study commitments and often having to commute from Belguim, he sometimes found it difficult to give his 100% to the team. In our match against IBIS2, Rehan took a superb low catch at point.
7) Frits Nossbaum
Frits is super dedicated and always gives his all. Frits only played half the season but is a good team player. Frits kept wicket on a couple of occasions where he took two catches and a quick stumping. Frits is very keen and got his inspiration to play this season from watching the World Cup in March. He told us I am definitely going to play! I've seen how I should play. These guys just hit e e thi g out of the pa k!
8) Ajay Sharma (Archer or Aadje)
Archer is also a new player. At the beginning of the season, he was struggling to run even 22 yards. However, by sheer hard work in the nets, he became fitter and contributed a lot to the team. Archer is a good line and length bowler and has a safe pair of hands. Archer is above all, a really nice guy but a little absent-minded. One weekend, when it was his tur to p epa e lu h,….. he fo got! E e though he pla ed a fe ga es fo the Fou ths, his hea t lies with the Thirds.
9) Mike Vroom (Mr. Gully)
Mike has a rare gift. He gets on with everybody and gels the side together. Carola and Mike are usually the first o es at the i ket g ou d, tid i g up the lu house o a ki g out the ou da . Mike s se se of hu ou always entertains and does wonders for the team morale. For instance Pherocious was bowling and he got smacked to the boundry. The next ball, Pherocious demolished the stumps. Mikey from gully said to the outgoing ats e No od hits Phiroze a d gets a a ith it . Mike a at a he e f o to a d he e e o je ts if he does not get an opportunity to bowl or bat. He has had an amazing season with the bat, playing shots that only he can. He scored over 300 runs and had an unbelievable average of 75. With the ball he captured 13 wickets a d held at hes. Mike s u i g et ee the i kets is his eak ess ut still he is a g eat all rounder to have in our side. Voorburg Cricket Club Jaarverslag 2007 41
10) Donny Maharaj (Ankle Donny, The Don)
Donny is a true Caribbean. He is always late, speaks his mind, laughs at most things in life and LOVES cricket. At the start of the season, Donny bowled poorly. As the season progressed he bowled better and better. Donny got the most wickets this season and certainly deserved more. If all the LBW decisions had been correctly given and if all the catches had been held, he would have hade more than 25 wickets. In our match against Excelsior, he was unplayable. He bowled 10 overs in a row and conceded only 7 runs, effectively killing off the opposition.
11) Colin Ewen (Brains)
Brains is a true captain. His mind is always working and sizes up the situation faster than anybody I know. He knows when to be serious and when to laugh. Colin contributes so much to the team and also to VCC as a whole. He always encourages players, especially youngsters, to have faith in themselves and gets the best out of them. Brains is a great bowler but in my opinion, he under bowls himself (and Dinesh too). Even when Colin was injured, he turned up at the cricket ground to support the team and kept the scorebook. Colin played a very big part in us winning the championship.
12) Various
We were most impressed with Tom Bollemeijer and Andrew Mostert. In the five games that Tom played for us, he had amazing bowling figures of 23 overs for 90 runs and 10 wickets. Andrew too was impressive, particularly against Excelsior. The top order had failed and we were struggling at 48 for 5. Andrew came in and played a composed and mature innings. He top scored with 34 runs and got us to 144. This was now a more defendable total. In the crunch games, we relied heavily on two players; Marc Nota and Hans Boerstra. With these two in the side:
(a) it s g eat fu . The sto ies the tell a e a azi g. (b) they boost the confidence of the side. (c) It s a eal pleasu e to at h the , hethe the a e atti g, o li g o fieldi g. So u h tale t! (d) they are always willing to pass on their knowledge and skill to help others perform better.
We had a winning season but more importantly, we had a fun season. Lets hope we can repeat this formula next year.

The 2007 season was quite an interesting year for the side. At the start of the season we suddenly were no longer the lo est tea i the lu i the Su da o petitio . We had ee joi ed the th hi h as set up to e our youth development team on the Sundays. We had many ideas about how the 4ths would operate and it was going to be interesting.
We stated the season away at CCN against their seconds. This was a strange match and full of contradictions as to our hopes for the season. Our bowling got a bit of a bashing with CCN2 thumping 226-4 of their 40 overs. We batted well, but at the end we were 47 short of victory after our 40. David Cousins (90*) and Ivo Neuerburg (56*) had an unbroken 3rd wicket partnership of 102. The after match nabeschouwing was long and I had to pace the number of beers per hour!
A week later we all out for 108 in 31 overs and VOC 4 passed our total without much trouble. Another week later Quick4 did us for 100 runs at the HDS ground.
We went into our 4th match of the season at Punjab with a depleted team of 9 players including one youngster. We struggled to 60 all out. Somehow we lost the game only by 1 wicket! I was rather pleased by the effort the team put with our bowling and fielding.
A week later we entertained HCC 4ths at Voorburg. We lost this game because of our poor batting performance, only David with 24, Khanwez with 27 and 24 Extras got us past the 100. Once more the effort put in by the team in the field was very encouraging. If I remember correctly I set the most outrageous attacking fields and HCC only passed our total in the 31st over.
We lost to HBS by 139 runs, in what was a dismal team effort. This was the absolute low point of the year. Things could only get better!
Our next match at Wilhelmus was against CCN. They reached 169-7 which would have been a lot more except for some excellent fielding by Guus Beekhof. Our batting for once did not fail. The rain gods came to our help and the match was abandoned.
Two weeks later, 8th July, Quick4 visited us and snaffled 2 points without much effort. The statistics show that Freek v/d Steen and Satar Alladin were the only VCCers that got at least a reasonable report cijfer.
July 15th was a horrible day for cricket, it was wet and miserable.
We started our overs reduced match (35) against Punjab late because of the inclement weather. Freek took two wickets in his first 3 overs. It was quite miserable in the field and the ball was constantly being dried on the towel. I had bowled some rubbish and I chucked the ball to one of the youngsters, Umair Liaqat, to bowl. In 6 overs he had knocked their middle order out of the match. I took him off after the 24th over with the score at 67-6.
Sharma then had the excellent figures of 4.5/1/9/3 and their innings stopped short at 91 after 32.5 overs.
To cut a long story short, we won by 5 wickets. Punjab bowled a lot of rubbish giving away 51 wides. For the interested we had agreed that all balls down the leg side would be wides (ODI style). All were accepted without a murmur. Harm Witteveen scored a patient 17* and Sharma 15.
I cannot remember how long ago it was since we last won a game. We were rather pleased and I and some other team members were late home.

Now came the summer break and we had 4 matches still to play. We were on a roll. It lasted zero matches; we lost easily to VOC at Voorburg.
12 August 2007. We entertained HBS 4 at the Wilhelmus field.
VCC 4: 130 – 8 in 40 overs. Batting: F. Shah 24. Bowling: F. Moubin 10/0/324/4. HBS 4: 129 a.o. in 38.1 overs. 92-5 in 30.3 overs. Bowling: U. Liaqat 8/0/29/4. The day began with the prospect of rain. I won the toss and we batted. Our batting was always a struggle against a more than competent HBS attack. On the slowish Wilhelmus pitch the ball did interesting things both in the air and off the pitch and wickets fell steadily. Fullard was particularly tight, his bowling only conceding 21 runs in the allotted 10. Further to this a workman like Moubind gave problems and took 4-34 in 10. Only two of our younger players, Mr. F. Shah and N. Hussain with 24 and 19 n.o. looked comfortable. Most of us got in, scored a few and got out. Extras added 32 to the score. After lunch/tea HBS tried to pass our total, but somehow we kept them from scoring rapidly. After 16 overs they had struggled to 55/2. Freek had run their number 1 out and Umair Liaqat had bowled the other opener. At this point Umair Razzaqi was joined by Fullard only for us to have another success, Freek castled Umair a few overs later. Some tight bowling, especially by George made it difficult for HBS. In the 20th and 24rd over we got our rewards for our pressure with two run outs. We continued to play tight cricket hi h pla ed di ide ds ith the egula falli g of i kets. Lia at s se o d spell of fou o e s ost o l u s fo wickets. He was ably supported by Freek and Dennis in this stage, sharing 3 wickets. We also att a ted a ig o d fo the last o e s. The fi st s at h as held up ai a d a la gish g oup of players and others watched us from the corner of the ground for the last few overs. The 9th wicket fell in the35th over with the score at 124. Somehow we held our nerve and with the first ball of the 39th over Freek castled N. Koets for 6 with their score on 129. Next week we went to Kampong to play their 5th team. We struggled to 150 in 39.2. Only Guus Beekhof 43, Extras 34, Harm Witteveen 24 and Freek vd Steen 20* demonstrated the skills of batting. After tea we went at then like wild dogs. Freek 10/2/24/2, Sono 9.5/0/33/1 and Rob Schamper 5/1/11/4 did the trick with the ball, another 2 points in the bag. On the 26/08/2007 we went to the Diepput to play HCC4 on their second, kunstgras, field with only 9 men. If HCC should win they would be champions. We did quite well holding then to 200 in 40 overs. We got to 132 all out. VCC1 made the playoffs! A week later we played the Kampong return match on the main VCC pitch. We got to 217 after 40, mainly due to Guus Beekhof s , e t as a d Y es Nota s . Ka po g slithe ed to all out. The e e e u outs a d the rest of the honours were shared. After the match we had an excellent set of snacks made and donated by out Pakistani players. A few beers helped wash the feast down. It s i e to see that the ths at last see s to e a le to o pete effe ti el a d i at hes o e o e.
