SOLEMNITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI – Today we celebrate the beautiful solemnity of Corpus Christi (the Body and Blood of Christ). On this feast we focus especially on the Lord’s Real Presence in the Most Holy Eucharist, the Blessed Sacrament. Traditionally, Eucharistic processions are held on this day throughout the world to highlight the Lord’s love in remaining with us in His Eucharistic Presence. Due to the Covid restrictions which are still in place until June 15th, we will not be able to have our annual procession this year. God willing, it will return next year. This is also a good feast to remind us of the need to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. We are blessed in our parish to have weekly Exposition and Benediction. This Holy Hour takes place each Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and spend an hour with the Lord in prayer. Our church is always open for prayer during the day from before the morning 8:15 a.m. Mass until after the daily 6:30 p.m. Mass. Over the years you would be surprised at how many people have converted to the Catholic faith at our parish simply because our church was open for prayer and they were drawn in by the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Today is also an opportune day to review proper procedures for the devout reception of Holy Communion. Please carefully read the insert in today’s bulletin. Although we all made our First Communion years ago and think we know how to receive there are sometimes bad habits that we can easily fall into. Please note that there is no restriction on the reception of Holy Communion on the tongue.

JUNE IS THE MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART – This beautiful devotion to the Heart of Jesus seems to have been lost in our modern world. And, yet it is needed today more than ever. The actual feast day this year falls on June 11th this year, but the devotion is for the entire month. In light of all the darkness in our world especially with the pandemic and social unrest, the emphasis on the love of Christ is ever more urgent. In our church we are blessed to have a magnificent chapel on the south ambulatory which depicts Our Lord as King of the Universe and shows his loving Heart. Remember: June is the month of the Sacred Heart. Let us renew our devotion to Him.

LIVESTREAM MASSES WILL BE ENDING – Last year when we were shut down on March 17, 2020, we immediately began to livestream our Sunday Masses so that our parishioners could access them and pray along at home. Obviously, this was never a truly perfect or satisfactory solution since we must worship in person and be able to receive Holy Communion. Nevertheless, it was the best we could do under the circumstances.

Now, however, with all restrictions in the state of California being removed on June 15th, we will no longer need to livestream our Masses any further. Next Sunday will be the last Sunday that we will transmit our Masses via the internet. By this time everyone who is able should be back in church in person. For the homebound and sick, livestream Masses continue to be available at www.ewtn.com

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES! – This past Friday we celebrated the Graduation of our 8th graders at St. Andrew School. It was a wonderful celebration of accomplishment. This class has been successfully able to overcome the many challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic, yet they have been resilient. Tonight, I will celebrate with the Mayfield Senior School as I lead the prayers for their Graduation ceremony and this coming Friday, we host the Graduation ceremonies for St. Monica Academy as well. We congratulate them all! DON'T POSTPONE THE SACRAMENTS! – Now that First Communion "season" has ended I've had the chance to reflect on our celebrations. It was a great joy to celebrate the First Communions of so many children of our community. But I noticed that in each of the 4 Masses there were far more children in higher grades than in 2nd grade which is the norm. Please remember that children should be registered for First Communion when they enter the 1st grade. Since it is a 2-year program they then receive their First Holy Communion in the 2nd grade when they are 7 years old. This is a beautiful tradition so that children receive Jesus as soon as they reach the age of reason and are able to acknowledge the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

I've also noticed that we have a lot of baptisms each week but, again, these babies are not really babies anymore. They are usually toddlers or even older. The Church teaches that children should be baptized "as soon as possible" after birth. Ordinarily this should be within the first month after birth. So, arrangements for Baptism should be made in the latter months of the pregnancy so they can be baptized right away. We should never delay the reception of the salvific grace of Christ to our children.

END OF SCHOOL YEAR – The end of the academic year 2020-21 comes this Friday. Right afterwards our school will offer summer school. Please check out the school website: www.saspasadena.com for more information. This is also the time to enroll your children for the new academic year which begins in late August. Remember that a Catholic education is an "advantage for life."

DRIVE IN THEATRE IN OUR PARKING LOT – Please note that our large parking lot is being leased out on the weekends in June in the evenings (after Mass and Confessions so as not to conflict with our parish schedule.)

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING – If you have a son who is interested in being an Boy you are invited to our next Server training classes which will take place as follows starting this week:

June 9 and 10 - 4:30 p.m. in the Sacristy chapel June 16 and 17 - 4:30 p.m. in the Sacristy chapel

Altar boys must have already received their First Holy Communion and be at least in the 3rd grade. This class will also be a good review for our current Altar Servers as well.

We are also in the process of forming a new group of servers called the Knights of the Altar. These are young men in high school and above who will take the leadership roles during our liturgical services and act as Masters of Ceremonies. In addition to this, however, they will be formed in an informal fraternity which will include social activities as well as spiritual and doctrinal formation. More on this to come in the next few months.

We will also be forming a group for young ladies as well, high school and above, in the next few months. This group will also focus on friendship, social activities and spiritual and doctrinal formation.

FATHERS’ DAY – Fathers’ Day is June 20th so now is the time to enroll all fathers (or grandfather or Godfather or brother, etc.) in the upcoming Novena of Masses. You may do so using the envelope mailed to you or stopping by the Pastoral Center or the church gift shop to obtain the cards.

In Christ and St. Andrew,

Father Gonzalez FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR In recent weeks, we have reviewed what the General The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - June 6, 2021 Instruction had to say about singing at Mass, including the roles of the -celebrant, the congregation, and choir. In preparation for the return of choirs to liturgical worship at St. Andrew, we will now begin to focus on Cibavit eos ex adipe frumenti, : et de petra, melle saturavit what the documents of Vatican II and liturgical law says eos, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. regarding the choir and its ministry. Mass. Amen. Alleluia.

Renuevemos nuestra devoción a Él.
