Source: 3517 (foto, albuminedruk), Nederlands-Indië in foto's, 1860-1940, Koninklijk Instituut voor taal-, land- en volkenkunde (KITLV). 5 Preface In the prevalent image of colonialism, the biased depiction of European artists, writers, scientists and eventually colonizers of non-European cultures created the stereotypes of the colonized domains and people that for these Europeans legitimized European rule over their colonies. Typical colonial thinking comprised a feeling of superiority, expressed in the relations the European dominators enforced and maintained in the areas they controlled in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. To a modern-day historian, this attitude obviously seems conceited, complacent, and, most of all, outdated. But even half a century after colonial domination, the traces of orientalist thinking remain vivid in academic and non-academic debates, (re)creating rigorous distance between West and East. Very clear boundaries in the roles of the colonizer and colonized state were persistently maintained in historiography, giving each historical figure a strictly delineated task in history. That the distance between east and west is not as obvious as alleged in current historiography becomes very clear when studying precolonial, colonial, and post-colonial societies without focussing merely on differences and demarcations. Though cross-cultural differences have been a constant obstacle in the fluent mutual understanding of all parties in colonial systems, the borders in the relation between colonizer and colonized became much vaguer and more hybrid than we usually imagine. Studying the colonial relationship of Europeans and Asians shows remarkable similarities in the historic perception of different peoples and different cultures, and makes us reconsider or own biases and perceptions of the societies and cultures of the areas we travel and explore. This thesis is the product of archival research conducted in Jakarta. More than once, I cursed this city and the country of which it is the capital for its bureaucracy, complicated and incomprehensible unwritten rules, or lack of tranquillity and air-conditioning. But being biased may have been a major contributing factor in my frustrations. For me, not only history, but also the environment where I studied helped me to overcome my biases. I am very grateful to staff of the ANRI for helping me in conducting my research, but also for providing me with great insight into Indonesian culture, bureaucracy and all other puzzling peculiarities a naive European student encounters when visiting the insane metropolis that surrounds the National Archives of Indonesia for the first time. My research and stay in Jakarta were made considerably easier by working closely together with the archivists of ANRI. Thanks to the hospitable people working at ANRI, I learned a lot about Indonesian history, but perhaps even more about modern day Indonesia. 6 Introduction At the end of the eighteenth century, Dutch presence in Asia had been rooted for two centuries on a commercially driven trading company-system. The VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie), the Dutch East India Trading Company, had become the largest actor in the Indian Ocean trading zone, shipping tons of various

Absorption of labor in the agricultural sector in Riau Province in 2019 was around 31.9 %, down from the previous year which reached 55.3 %. The agricultural sector has a high contribution to GDP (in economic terms) in Riau Province. The results of rice production from agricultural activities can affect vulnerability to food security in a province. The research objective is to examine the employment of agricultural sector workers and rice production in Riau Province in 2010-2018. The data used are institutional data. The method used in this research is descriptive with quantitative data support. Generally, in Riau Province, regencies classified as high in human resources (labor) sector A are Indragiri Hilir Regency and Rokan Hilir Regency which produce large amounts of rice production. Regencies that are classified as high in the number of workers are Kampar and Rokan Hulu, but rice production is still relatively low, due to not optimal productivity.     (a) Large Reservoir and Small Pump Capacity In most drainage areas, a pumping station is characterized by storage of flood in a large reservoir placed at the pumping station so as to minimize pump capacity, thus initial cost and operation cost. Table 3.18 includes data of pump capacity and area of reservoir attached. However, as explained in the 1973 Master Plan Study Report, if pumps are small, the reservoir may not yet empty before the next rainstorm. (b) Complicated Network of Drainage System The pump drainage areas in the DKI Jakarta have complicated network of drains with a lot of gates. Flood water is so controlled by gates to distribute optimum discharge to downstream in consideration of flow capacity of main drain, pump capacity as well as down stream water level including Sea Level. (c) Planning without Consideration of Secondary and Tertiary Drains The other characteristics of drainage system in the DKI Jakarta is that existing pump capacity and starting water level of a reservoir of a pump drainage area are so determined that highest water level or the Design Flood Level along the main drain is lower than the existing bank elevation for one day flood with 25-year return period, assuming that most of rainfall can be drained to the main drain. However, there are a lot of flood prone areas in pump drainage areas. One cause of inundation in flood prone areas may be improper installation/maintenance of secondary/tertiary drains, though gravity drain can be attained. Also high Design Flood Level of main drain may be other causes why rainwater is difficult to be drained.

Metode Tersebut meliputi pemilihan topik, pengumpulan sumber, verifikasi, interpretasi dan Historiografi atau penulisan sejarah. Semua metode tersebut sudah dilakukan oleh penulis dalam menyusun skripsi ini. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh yaitu (1) Perjuangan di Surakarta melibatkan KNI, pemuda, tokoh, bangsawan dan Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XII Dan pada akhirnya warga berhasil mengambil alih kekuasaan serta melucuti senjata tentara penjajah. (2) Pakubuwono XII lahir di Surakarta pada Selasa Legi tanggal 14 April 1925, dan diangkat menjadi raja di Keraton Surakarta pada usia yang sangat muda yaitu usia 20 tahun. Beliau juga dikenal dengan raja 3 jaman dengan lama memimpin 48 tahun. Atas pengabdiannya bagi Indonesia, maka Pakubuwana XII diberikan piagam penghargaan dan medali perjuangan angkatan ’45 yang ditetapkan oleh Dewan Harian Nasional Angkatan-45 di Jakarta. Piagam merupakan bukti kesetiaannya kepada Negara Kesatuan RI dan atas nasionalisme yang dalam di masa perjuangan kemerdekaan. (3) Peran PakuBuwono XII antara lain mengorbankan kekayaan keraton yang dimiliki seperti emas dan persenjataan yang sangat banyak, bahkan menyebabkan Keraton sendiri defisit.

WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT REFORM Water resources management reform which is characterized by the enactment of Law No.7/2004 on Water Resources is intended to anticipate the complexity of water resources development problems and shifting in water resources management paradigm by giving more attention to social functions, environment and economy that is directed to achieve the synergic and harmonic integration of interregional, intersectoral, and intergenerational. Reformation started with the formation of the coordination team of Water Resources Management (TKPSDA) in 2001 in charge of formulating national policies on water resources and various policy tools, as well as encouraging the establishment of the new Water Resources Law. In line with the spirit of democratization, decentralization and openness, fundamental reforms in the Law of No.7/2004 is that the three main pillars of water resource management in the previous Law No.11/1974 which consists of the conservation, utilization and control of destructive force, is supported by three other pillars of community participation, steady institutional and good information systems and data. Principles of water resources management policies, which are contained in the Law of No. 7/2004 are derived into seven government regulations (GR)3, namely Water Resources Management, Irrigation, Development of Drinking Supply System (SPAM), Ground Water, Dams, Rivers, and Swamp. BTJ recounts the genealogy of Javanese kings until the reign of Pakubuwana II in Kartasura. BTJ in this episode expresses the steps of Sultan Agung to knit the continuity of the power of the Mataram dynasty in controlling Java and Madura. The political steps taken by Sultan Agung in legitimizing power were trusted by the people as an attitude that was directly inspired by God. The speech story recorded in the BTJ within the limits of this study contains three important motives, namely (1) spiritual motives, (2) political, and (3) power. Information in the BTJ should be seen as a Javanese perspective in interpreting its world and king's greatness, not as a historical turn. Di Kadipaten telah terlahir tokoh-tokoh yang sangat memperhatikan kelestarian budaya Jawa khususnya seni tari tradisi. Salah satunya adalah Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Aryo Paku Alam IV, yang pada masa ia berkuasa, budaya Barat yang dibawa oleh kaum kolonialis melanda daerah jajahan. Hadirnya budaya asing tentu sulit untuk ditolak. Namun demikian denga piawainya KGPAA Paku Alam IV, justru mengadopsi budaya Barat, tetapi ditampilkan dengan rasa dan estetika Jawa, dalam bentuk tari klasik. Sehingga pada masanya lahir repertoar tari baru yang memperkaya seni tari tradisi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap perkembangan seni tari di Pura Pakualaman pada masa pemerintahan KGPAA Paku Alam IV, dan hal-hal apa yang melatarbelakangi penciptaannya. Dalam rangka mewujudkan rekonstruksi ini dilakukan dengan metode sejarah kritis, yang tahapannya meliputi Pertama, Heuristik, atau pencarian dan pengumpulan sumber data sejarah, yang dalam hal ini dilakukan di BPAD DIY, dan di Perpustakaan Pura Pakualaman. Di kedua lembaga tersebut tersimpan arsip tentang Paku Alaman, dan juga naskah- naskah yang berkaitan dengan penciptaan tari. Kedua, Kritik, atau pengujian terhadap sumber-sumber yang terkumpul, sumber yang telah terkumpul diuji dari segi fisik untuk memperoleh otentisitas, kemudian membandingkan informasi yang termuat dengan informasi dari sumber yang berbeda, untuk memperoleh keterpercayaan atau kredibilitas. Ketiga, Interpretasi yaitu informasi yang ada dikaji untuk diangkat fakta-fakta sejarahnya, yang kemudian dirangkai menjadi sebuah kisah sejarah.
