On behalf of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada, we would like to extend our appreciation to you, our country’s political leadership, for your ongoing work as our country copes with the effects of COVID-19. As the national association representing more than 95% of aerospace activity in Canada, our members are located in all regions of the country and range from very small to very large businesses operating in all three segments: space, aerospace and defence. Even prior to the catastrophic consequences of COVID-19, Canada’s aerospace sector was losing ground. In fact, we raised alarm bells a year ago when we released the Vision 2025 report that outlined industry and stakeholder feedback and recommendations needed to protect Canada’s slipping aerospace position. Despite these alarm bells, the federal government took little action. And now, facing pressures and losses that are the biggest in aviation history, Canada has slipped even further. While our major competitor countries have implemented sector specific plans and recovery measures, Canada has continued to sit idly by.

  • 26 Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence
August 24, 2017 - For Immediate Release 26th ANNIVERSARY OF UKRAINE’S INDEPENDENCE and CANADA 150 ⁕⁕⁕ UCC-TORONTO CELEBRATIONS ⁕⁕⁕ By Nadia Prokopiw, UCC-Toronto The Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Toronto Branch (UCC-Toronto) welcomed over 12,000 people to the 26th annual Ukrainian Independence Day celebration on Saturday, August 19th at Centennial Park in Toronto, the largest in North America and the Diaspora. It was a huge success: Record attendance and a full day of festivities and entertainment was enjoyed by all. This Independence Day celebration marked not only over a quarter century of Ukraine’s independent statehood, but also celebrated CANADA’s 150th Anniversary. The stage program commenced with opening prayers conducted by Very Rev. Volodymyr Yanishevsky, Chancellor of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Toronto and Eastern Canada, Rector of Saint Josaphat's Cathedral and Fr. Vasyl Fediv from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Andrew the Apostle. This was followed by a warm welcome from the UCC-Toronto President, Taras Bahriy, and special greetings from the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Andriy Shevchenko and Andrii Veselovskyi, Consul General of Ukraine. Mr. Bahriy reiterated that “Ukraine is still in a real war, regardless of who is calling it what … but we will overcome and defeat our enemy because truth and God are on our side… Slava Ukrayini!” He also proudly recollected the words of Ukraine’s president, who said that “Toronto is the largest Ukrainian City outside of the boundaries of Ukraine”, and here reside true Ukrainian patriots who continue to fight for Ukraine’s sustained independence. This event was attended not only by thousands of returning visitors, but also by many government representatives who joined the celebration.

  • Queensway Health Centre Major Funding Boost Will Reduce Wait Times, Address Capacity Issues and Provide Better Care Closer to Home
Stronger Hospitals, Better Care for Trillium Health Partners - Queensway Health Centre Major Funding Boost Will Reduce Wait Times, Address Capacity Issues and Provide Better Care Closer to Home NEWS March 23, 2018 Ontario is investing an additional $22.78M in Trillium Health Partners Hospitals. This is part of the province’s commitment to invest an additional $822 million investment in Ontario hospitals in 2018–19 — an increase of 4.6 per cent. MPP Charles Sousa, along with MPP’s Baker, Damerla, Delaney and Milczyn, were at the Queensway Health Centre to explain how this major increase in hospital funding will provide better access to care, reduce wait times, address capacity issues and better meet the needs of Mississauga and Etobicoke’s changing population. This overall increase of 4.6 per cent across the province is on top of the 3.2 per cent provided last year — allowing hospitals to invest with more precision in the care and supports that address the specific needs of their patients and community. Patients and families across Ontario will also directly benefit from this increased funding with the expansion of essential services to reduce wait times and priority procedures such as cardiac care, critical care, chemotherapy, treatment for strokes, hip and knee replacements, and medical imaging. Increasing funding to hospitals and access to high-quality health care across the province is part of the government's plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of Medicare in a generation.
