Sec ondary enrichm ent is a natural process that has been observed at practically all workable dep osits throughout the o w rld . The original ores are leached by circulating atmospheric waters whi ch become concentrated and dep o sit c opper in favour e l o n abl places e sewhere . The c pper is dissolved ln regio s where sulphate s or chlorides o ccur and precipitated from these acid waters by reactions upon th e un derlying sulphi des where oxygen e hi o to n is exclud d . T s pr cess leads a vertical z o al distribution of o th e and on n or n res , oxides carb ates lyi g in the upper oxidisi g e and o o o n o lay rs the res of more c mmercial imp rta ce , chalc cite , o n and o th e b r ite chalc pyrite in deeper parts of the mine . The phenomen a of secondary enr ichment c an often be observed in o i e en o n to n p l shed sp cim s , where chalc pyrite is see have bee on e n o o n o n n o and o li in o c vert d i t b r ite , b r ite i t covellite , c vel te t 1 e n chalcocite . The characters of the country - rocks that are the most favour able for the developm ent of copp er - ores have b een observed from the early days of min in g and are described in some detail by 3 All en o in o and o n . H w od his classic w rk , by thers si ce his time th e authors agree that whe re a lode cro sse s ro cks of differen t n n en n e in on characters its mi eral c o t ts cha g .
