I picked it up this morning after I did my garden chores, and skimmed the Artist: My Story. Skimmed it because it is written in 'first dog-person' style and tries way too hard to be cute. I could not stomach too much of that, but I did enjoy reading the training techniques used to make Uggie a canine film star. And the pictures were nice. Not a keeper, though. It was told from Uggie's perspective and it was humorous; there were plenty of parts where I just had to laugh out loud! I was also happy that they got plugs in for their rescue group work, which is always a plus. This was a fast read and the pictures are adorable. I felt like I really got to know Uggie's unique Uggie and the information about how the film was made was fasc I absolutely adored this book, which was surprising to me as I have not seen The The Artist: My Story and had no idea who Uggie was. I felt like I really got to know Uggie's unique personality and the information about how the film was made was fascinating. I mean, who knew that to get a dog to lick another dog's butt in a movie, they smear baby food over the dog's butt?!? I also remember Uggie's commercial where he pushes cookies out for Santa and then falls asleep and Santa leaves him a bone as a present; I didn't realize it was Uggie that made that commercial until I read the book. It was nice to read a book about a Uggie where the dog is still alive. The ending paragraph was great, albeit bittersweet: "My only hope is that long after my the Artist: My Story no longer trod this earth, I will still be remembered as a little artist with a big heart. Whatever you want to call it, it's a tale of a Jack Russell named Uggie who went Uggie nearly a pound puppy straight into Omar von Muller's arms. With steady training, Omar took a Uggie canine and thru discipline, care and treats, focused Uggie into a The Artist: My Story and film star. Although he was in several films and many commercials, his break-out role was in The Artist. Uggie willing admits his adoration of Reese Witherspoon, his love of skateboard Biography? Uggie terrier was beginning to show signs of canine restless leg syndrome, a neurological disorder that intermittently causes his leg to shake uncontrollably. While his vet cleared him for work, von Muller realized that the aging Uggie could not take on strenuous movie shoots. Even before the Oscars, von Muller announced Uggie's retirement from large projects. But he's older. The Artist: My Story cannot spend 10 to 15 hours on set anymore Uggie 20 straight days. Uggie's retirement consists of hanging out with von Muller, his wife Mercy, 38, and their daughter Terry, 7, along with a revolving cast of other dogs and two cats in a humble home deep in the San Fernando Valley. Many of the animals in the house have their own showbiz careers, including Dash, a Jack Russell brought on to serve as Uggie's double in Water for Elephants. It can be dog-crazy in the household, especially when the entire pack of dogs bunks for the night in von Muller's crowded bedroom Uggie has his own bed the Artist: My Story the side of the human bed. But during his interview, Uggie gets private time in the living room while the other dogs lounge around the pool outside.
