Nurse Leadership
NURSE LEADERSHIP Developing the Workforce of the Future SPONSORED BY: THE PATH FORWARD... Investing in nurse education and development is critical for hospitals and health systems to successfully transition to value-based care. Nurses are in a position to not only partici- pate in, but lead the transformation of the health care delivery system to one that is focused on team-based, patient-centered care across the continuum. This transformation will require new skills and enhanced knowledge around population health, wellness and data analytics, among other things. This executive dialogue explores the nursing workforce of the future, including the necessary composition and distribution of the nursing workforce. It examines the nursing supply chain and what is needed to educate and retain a suf- ficient workforce; how health care provider organizations can recognize, support and train nurse leaders; and the barriers to nurse advancement. 2 EXECUTIVE DIALOGUE | Sponsored by Walden University | 2019 PANELISTS ▶ Donna Frazier, R.N. Jasmine's Discovery Jasmine Loved Going for Walks with Her Dog, Mack
Student Name: 4th Grade ELA Review Assessment ID: ib.2457318 Directions: Read the passage below and answer the question(s) that follow. Jasmine's Discovery Jasmine loved going for walks with her dog, Mack. She had plenty of friends, but Mack was her best friend. 1 Nobody understood her like Mack. Mack never said the wrong thing. He did not ask for much. He only wanted to go on walks, play fetch, and get a few scratches behind his ears. One evening in early June, Jasmine and Mack went for their usual walk. They journeyed through Farmer 2 Levy's woods behind Jasmine's house. Summer was just beginning. The frogs and crickets rejoiced because the sun was going to bed. Fresh breezes tickled the leaves and pinecones that were floating in the chattering creek. Jasmine and Mack played a game of fetch with his favorite tennis ball. Suddenly, a noise in the brush took them both by surprise. It was a squeal, as well as a grunt. Mack responded with his own full- throated bark. He made it sound like a question. They did not have to wait long for their answer. The response from the brush was like the squeak of a 3 bicycle's brakes. Jasmine ran to the source of the noise. It was a piglet, dirty, scratched, and struggling in a thornbush. Jasmine gently removed the piglet from the bush. She suffered a few scratches herself, but she did not 4 mind. The minute she saw the piglet's face, Jasmine fell in love with it. -
Gaokao Admission
University of San Francisco Gaokao Admission Frequently Asked Questions What is Gaokao Direct Admission? USF offers a special, accelerated admission procedure for Chinese students who have achieved excellent Gaokao scores. Applicants will be admitted to USF based solely on their Gaokao test scores and a one-on-one interview with University staff, designed to evaluate English proficiency. There are no other admission requirements. Interviews in July enable students to begin their education in America immediately– –without spending an extra year preparing for IELTS, TOEFL or SAT tests. Interviews begin in mid-July, applicants receive their results within 24 hours of the interview, and formal admission letters are sent within a week. Students therefore have enough time to apply for F-1 student visas, and can attend USF in the Fall (August) Semester. Students who qualify in July can postpone their admission to the following Spring (January) Semester, if they prefer. Interviews are also held in late November or early December each year. Students who complete these interviews successfully can enter USF in the Spring (January) Semester or the next Fall (August) Semester. Why is USF doing this? For many decades, USF and the City of San Francisco have welcomed students from China. Our Chinese alumni have done very well in life after USF, both professionally and personally. Current Gaokao and other Chinese students enrich the educational experience of international and domestic students, alike; all benefit from the international network of friends made and colleagues introduced here at USF. Over the past few years, we have seen a steady increase in the academic ability and achievements of Chinese applicants to USF. -
Rethinking Family Business Succession KAJSA HAAG
DS DS Rethinking family business succession KAJSA HAAG From a problem to solve to an ongoing practice KAJSA HAAG Rethinking family business succession business Rethinking family As the title denotes, I suggest we think differently about family business succes- sion. I propose to rethink succession from a problem to a practice. This means that Rethinking family business succession is not a problem to solve but something people do in family business; it succession is ongoing, it is integrated and it is ordinary. It poses an alternative to the common view of succession as something problematic, separate and extraordinary to handle From a problem to solve to an ongoing practice in order to carry on with the business. To view succession as a practice opens up new understanding of succession as a continuing flow of activities embedded in the everyday life of business families instead of a problem to overcome through succession planning. This notion is philosophically inspired by sociology of practice, theoretically based in a practice KAJSA HAAG perspective of strategy, and empirically explored in a case of succession at Karl Andersson & Söner. Three conceptions are developed that aid the analysis of suc- cession, framing it as originating from socialization, included in everyday routines and progressing without design. The study shows how succession evolves as family members are socialized, en- gaged and trained through the durée of daily life. Beyond that, it shows how succession is not just about handing the business over from one generation to the next. It is also about working together in the moment, developing the business while preserving its essence. -
