She was a biomedical engineer for 18 years in hospitals (1971-1989) and a Professor since 1989. Monique Frize published over 200 papers in journals and conference proceedings on artificial intelligence in medicine, infrared imaging, ethics and women in engineering and science. She is Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (1992), Fellow of Engineers Canada (2010), Officer of the Order of Canada (1993) and recipient of the 2010 Gold Medal from Professional Engineers Ontario and the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. She received five honourary doctorates in Canadian universities since 1992. Monique Frize held the national Northern Telecom/NSERC Chair for women in engineering at the University of New Brunswick between December 1989 and June 1997, then the NSERC/Nortel Chair for women in science and engineering for Ontario between July 1997 and June 2002. She was a founding member of INWES (International Network of women engineers and scientists) in 2002 and its president between 2002 and 2008. In 2007, she was a founding member of the INWES Education and Research Institute, a charity organization, and is its president since 2007. Monique has published extensively on the topic of women in science and engineering over the two last decades. Mattson, P.E.: Secretary General Email: [email protected] Contact: PAI Corporation 116 Milan Way Oak Ridge, TN 37830 865-719-9127 Biography: Gail Mattson is a registered professional engineer in 7 states with over 30 years experience in engineering design and consulting, project management, business development and corporate relations. She has a BS in Chemistry and Biology and received her MSE in Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington. Presently, Ms. Mattson has authority and responsibility over all of the operations at headquarters and at the various project locations across the country for PAI, which is a small woman- owned business that has for 27 years been providing nuclear, engineering, safety, quality, security, and environmental services to government agencies. During her career, she has been responsible for leading major technical proposal efforts winning over $175 M in new contract awards over 4 years; managed a $200M/ 5 year environmental remediation program at a USDOE site that encompassed operations of nuclear facilities; and had been responsible the $200 M/year USDOE waste management program to safely store and treat hazardous, mixed, transuranic and low level radioactive wastes. In addition to 25 years of involvement with the Society of Women Engineers at the section, region and national levels, including the FY01 National President, Ms. Mattson is a founding member of INWES and the INWES ERI. She has also served in various local, regional and national positions with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, Girl Scouts of USA, Girls, Inc., Rotary International, and other community and church organizations. INWES ERI 2011 www.inweseri.org [email protected] Dr. Paula Goldman Leventman: Director Email: [email protected] Contact: Biography: Leventman has been Diversity Coordinator and Internal Evaluator for the NSF funded Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems (CenSSIS) from 2000 to the present. She was assistant dean of engineering for women’s projects at Northeastern University from 1982-2004. Leventman was Principal Investigator of the NSF funded Multiple Pathways toward Gender Equity in the US IT Workforce, 2001-05; and at the same time Principal Investigator of the NSF funded 4 Schools for Women in Engineering, 2001- 05 which involved faculty and students from NU, BU, RPI and Tufts with middle school teachers and students. Paula Leventman also has a national reputation in social research and program evaluation. Over the last two decades, she evaluated numerous NSF supported teacher enhancement and engineering center programs. She held instructional academic positions at Boston College and Wellesley College. She is the author of Professionals Out of Work, Macmallan, 1981. She is currently a director and the program chair of the International Network of Women Scientists and Engineers (INWES), Education and Research Institute (ERI). Julita Vassileva received her Ph.D in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria. She has worked as research associate at the Institute of Mathematics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and at the Federal Armed Forces University in Munich, Germany. She moved to Canada in 1997 and she is currently a professor of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan.Her research areas involve human issues in decentralized software environments: user modeling and personalization, designing incentive mechanisms for encouraging participation and facilitating trust in decentralized software applications, such as online communities, social networks, multi-agent systems and peer-to-peer systems. Dr. Vassileva holds the NSERC/Cameco Chair of Women in Science and Engineering at the Prairies. Her goal as a Chair is to increase the participation of women in science and engineering and to provide role models for women active in and considering careers in these fields. The Chair was awarded to Dr. Vassileva in September 2005. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC) and Cameco fund it, the Saskatoon based world-largest uranium Mining Corporation. She founded the LAMH (Laboratoire de Machines Hydrauliques), a laboratory doing fluid dynamics research in collaboration with the industry through the Consortium on Hydraulic Machines . From 1997 to 2005, she was one of the 5 scientists to be granted by NSERC as Chair for women in Sciences and Engineering.
