Miracle on 34th Street is a 1947 American comedy-drama film about a nice old man by the name of Kris Kringle who’s hired by special events director Doris Walker for Macy’s main store in Manhattan, New York to play . As Santa Claus, Kringle converses with children in whatever language they speak, knows just what they want for Christmas, and knows just where to send their parents to find that special toy. Kringle comes to the positive attention of Mr. Macy himself as he unleashes waves of good will to the delight of customers and employees alike!

However, things change when Kris Kringle claims to be Santa Claus. He’s institutionalized as insane. This leads to a court competency hearing. A young lawyer decides to defend Kringle to determine his mental health and his authenticity by arguing that he is the real thing. The dramatic decision in this case pulls at the heart strings and makes this 1947 film forever a classic.

Miracle on 34th Street won three in 1947: Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Edmund Gwynn who played Kris Kringle); Best Writing, Original Story (, a prominent Hollywood screenwriter who wrote the novel); and Best Writing, Screenplay (); It was also nominated for Best Picture.
