Rara vez vamos a encontrar en los anales de la historia humana una estafa mayor a la conciencia de los pueblos como aquella que se cometió y se sigue cometiendo en contra del pueblo palestino. Hablar o escribir sobre el legítimo derecho del pueblo palestino a una identidad y a una patria, con la consabida tragedia impuesta a ése pueblo árabe, es sencillamente reeditar la tragedia de los indí- genas de América y el genocidio cometido contra los africanos. Desde muy temprana edad, conocí de cerca y viví las consecuen- cias del crimen cometido en Palestina ya que decenas de refugia- dos anclaron en mi pueblo chico, en el norte del Líbano, trayendo con ellos, aparte de su altivez y dolor, la historia de los crímenes que las hordas sionistas, huyendo de la persecución cristiano- europea, aplican sus sufrimientos a otro pueblo laborioso, pacífico y tolerante. Desde entonces, milité en la justa causa del pueblo palestino que veía en su lucha no sólo la búsqueda de su emanci- pación y libertad sino también la salvación de los ciudadanos del mundo de fe judía utilizados como carne de cañón en un proyecto imperio-capitalista al servicio de los traficantes de armas y merca- deres del capital. Grato para mí ha sido no sólo la sorpresiva oferta de prologar el libro de Georges Zade; "Palestina y la Desinformación", sino tam- bién, por saber de sus dotes intelectuales que le permiten abordar en forma sui generis un tema tan complejo como la tragedia pales- 3 tina poniendo como testigos irrefutables, a sus aseveraciones, los propios protagonistas sionistas y dirigentes de Israel. No es nada exagerado recalcar que el problema suscitado por la ilegítima creación de un estado israelí en territorio palestino como la chispa que motorizó todos los acontecimientos en el Medio Oriente desde los años 40 del siglo pasado. Las guerras, las intervenciones militares occidentales, los golpes de estado, los conflictos fronterizos, la formación de bloques anta- gónicos, la utilización de la religión como elemento político, la destinación de altísimo porcentaje de los presupuestos nacionales a la empresa bélica, los disturbios, la inestabilidad, el imperio del hambre, la miseria, la necesidad, el analfabetismo, el desempleo, la corrupción y tantos otros males que imperan en el Medio Oriente árabe son consecuencias directas de la presencia de Israel en el corazón de la nación árabe. El impedimento de la unidad árabe, el atraso en la conquista de la verdadera independencia y soberanía por parte de los estados ára- bes y la imposibilidad de los pueblos árabes de disfrutar de sus riquezas patrias y en especial las riquezas petroleras, son causas inmediatas y consecuencias bien calculadas por parte de quienes incrustaron en la Palestina Histórica de un estado racial, colonial, exclusivista y excluyente. La utilización de Israel, por parte de las otrora metrópolis imperia- les y coloniales en contra de los anhelos del pueblo árabe en su prosperidad, unión y grandeza, la hemos vivido en cada instante donde el pueblo árabe era precisado en dar pasos firmes en pos de su libertad, su unión y su prosperidad a lo largo de todas las agre- siones que el ejército sionista jugó su rol asignado por los imperios europeos y estadounidenses de turno. Por último, me siento persuadido que con una lectura racional y objetiva del libro, que nos deja para la reflexión el amigo Georges Zade, nos proporcionará una oportunidad dorada para conocer con 4 objetividad los secretos del mal llamado Conflicto Arabe-Israelí y entender a profundidad que estamos ante una verdadera tragedia humana con la complicidad de los grandes países sedicentes aman- tes de la democracia y los valores humanos y la anuencia criminal de las Naciones Unidas. Caracas, Abril 2007 Raimundo Kabchi 5 Introducción A menudo, cuando se trata de hablar sobre los acontecimientos del Medio Oriente, surgen ideas preconcebidas que dificultan la com- prensión de los conflictos contemporáneos que enfrenta la región. Entre algunos de estos argumentos, pueden destacarse los siguien- tes: que los pueblos árabes siempre han estado en guerra, que se trata de una lucha entre religiones, o que es un tema muy complejo y difícil de entender, así que será mejor no tocarlo. En cuanto a la complejidad del tema, es algo que se ha querido aparentar para empañar los esfuerzos en la búsqueda de la verdad. En lo relacionado a que siempre se ha estado en guerra, basta con revisar la historia de la región para darse cuenta que los conflictos bélicos que allí han tenido lugar han sido guerras de resistencia contra invasores, venidos de otras tierras. A su vez, es cierto que el conflicto en el Medio Oriente tiene un componente religioso, pero esa no es la raíz del problema; cuando la invasión de los cruzados, ya se utilizó la religión como causa. Lo cierto es que para poder entender un problema de esta magnitud, se deben buscar sus raí- ces, se debe indagar en las causas que lo originaron. En el mundo actual, existen tres religiones monoteístas, que a lo largo del tiempo se han ido dividiendo en corrientes basadas en diferentes interpretaciones. Al leer la Biblia desde el Génesis, se encuentra la máxima de toda religión: “Dios creó al hombre”, sin especificar color, raza, nación, credo, etc. En el Evangelio, nos encontramos con la base del Cris- tianismo, que es un mensaje de amor universal. Más aún, como lo establece la Iglesia de Oriente: “Dios se hizo hombre para que el hombre pueda llegar a Dios”. En el Corán, esta idea se expresa en el siguiente versículo: “Creemos en Dios y en lo que se nos ha revelado, en lo que se reveló a Abraham, Ismael, Isaac, Jacob y 6 las tribus, en lo que Moisés, Jesús y los profetas recibieron de su Señor. No hacemos distinción de ellos y nos sometemos a EL” (2,136). Teniendo como respaldo lo anteriormente dicho, se puede confir- mar la expresión del Padre Hector Douayhi, que en un momento crucial de su vida sacerdotal afirmó: “No pertenezco a la Iglesia de piedra, pertenezco a la Iglesia del hombre”. Igualmente, se puede resaltar la frase que Ignacio Ramonet, Director de Le Monde Di- plomatique, pronunció luego de los atentados del 11 de septiem- bre: “Si amaron el Anti-Comunismo, adorarán el Anti-Islamismo”. Si nos basamos en los principios religiosos, nos encontramos con los valores que sustentan una de las fuentes más importantes para la conducta del ser humano, como lo son la coexistencia, la convi- vencia, la tolerancia y la solidaridad. Cualquier otra interpretación de la religión, o de una de sus partes, no es más que una desviación de la verdad y contradice su propio espíritu. Esas interpretaciones sólo sirven para los que se autoproclaman intérpretes de la palabra de Dios, y oh casualidad, siempre conducen a imponer los intere- ses de sus autores en perjuicio de los demás. Hasta el momento no se ha encontrado a alguien que haya interpretado la palabra de Dios, fuera del contexto mencionado anteriormente, con un resul- tado negativo para él o para sus intereses. Algunos se declaran voceros de Dios ¿Cuántos han resultado ser un fraude? Lo único que han hecho en realidad ha sido o bien ama- sar grandes cantidades de dinero para su propio beneficio, o bien conducir a las personas por el camino contrario al espíritu de la religión que dicen defender – llevándolos inclusive a la muerte o al asesinato. Otros declaran que están cumpliendo con una misión que Dios les encomendó. ¿Acaso Dios manda a masacrar, asesinar, destruir, invadir, saquear, envilecer, torturar, etc. etc.? Si comparamos ese tipo de órdenes proclamadas en nombre de Dios con los diez man- 7 damientos, entonces Dios se contradice. ¿O acaso los diez manda- mientos no tienen valor alguno? Otros pretenden ser los elegidos por Dios para ser superiores y poder hacer lo que quieran, sin que nadie les pueda reclamar por sus actos. Son los que, basándose en dogmas religiosos, se consi- deran a sí mismos “Intocables”. En realidad, tomando en cuenta los principios de la religión, y so- bre todo el “Dios Creador”, no se puede aceptar dogma alguno. Claro que hay dogmas religiosos que no hacen daño a nadie, pero no son los tratados aquí. Si se acepta a Dios como Creador ¿cómo es posible no aceptar su creación? Una de las creaciones de Dios es el hombre, al que dotó con un cerebro que le sirve para pensar. Por eso, impedir ésta función es contrariar la voluntad de Dios. Debe- mos estar interesados en eliminar esos dogmas que son utilizados para crear los acontecimientos que estamos sufriendo hoy en día, y cuyas consecuencias venimos sufriendo desde hace ya demasiado tiempo. Algunos llegan a aceptar el dogma del “Pueblo elegido por Dios”. La pregunta obligada, en ese caso, es: ¿cuál es ése pueblo? Y si logran identificarlo, entonces: ¿quién eligió a los demás pueblos? Más aún: ¿por qué ése pueblo fue elegido por Dios? y ¿para qué fue elegido? ¿Es que acaso Dios discrimina entre sus hijos? Como se puede ver, contra éste dogma surgen muchas interrogan- tes a las que hasta ahora nadie ha dado una respuesta clara y lógi- ca.

    ISRAEL 2015 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Israel is a multiparty parliamentary democracy. Although it has no constitution, the parliament, the unicameral 120-member Knesset, has enacted a series of “Basic Laws” that enumerate fundamental rights. Certain fundamental laws, orders, and regulations legally depend on the existence of a “state of emergency,” which has been in effect since 1948. Under the Basic Laws, the Knesset has the power to dissolve the government and mandate elections. The nationwide Knesset elections in March, considered free and fair, resulted in a coalition government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Civilian authorities maintained effective control over the security services. (An annex to this report covers human rights in the occupied territories. This report deals with human rights in Israel and the Israeli- occupied Golan Heights.) During the year according to Israeli Security Agency (ISA, also known as Shabak) statistics, Palestinians committed 47 terror attacks (including stabbings, assaults, shootings, projectile and rocket attacks, and attacks by improvised explosive devices (IED) within the Green Line that led to the deaths of five Israelis and one Eritrean, and two stabbing terror attacks committed by Jewish Israelis within the Green Line and not including Jerusalem. In July alone, Israel’s Education Minister declared American intermarriage to be “like a second Holocaust;” he then went on to proclaim his support for conversion therapy, a cruel pseudo-psychology that purports to “cure” gays and lesbians of the same-sex attractions that animate their lives. Tonight, though, I would like to pause from criticism of the Jewish State and even of its often-despicable government. Like our own United States, Israel is more than its government and better than its worst prejudices. Like the United States, Israel offers tremendous cause for celebration, particularly when we’re prepared to examine the country in all of its complexity. As most of you know, I spend time in Israel every year. My days there are not filled with protest marches or government-bashing. Sure, issues arise, and the Israelis and Americans with whom I share my time there are not shy about confronting harsh realities. Still, every summer, more than upset or depressed about the current state of affairs, I come away inspired by the beauty, the accomplishments, and the motivation of the Land and people of Israel. One day of my studies at the Shalom Hartman Institute is devoted to an in- depth excursion. My group visited the Development Town of Yerucham in a remote part of the Negev. Development Towns were an invention of the early State, as it strove to find places for new immigrants to settle outside of Israel’s already-crowded cities.

    Rabbi Andrea London Beth Emet The Free Synagogue In Defense of Liberal Zionism Kol Nidre 2014/5775 I want to share with you a story that I received via email earlier this week from Ron Kronish, an American-born rabbi who has lived in Israel for many years. “A few days ago,” Rabbi Kronish wrote, “my wife and I took a drive east of Jerusalem to show a friend from Boston some of the complicated geography in areas C and E of the West Bank. As we were strolling around, we noticed a strange sign on the nearby kiosk. It said in Hebrew: Am Shalem Doresh Falafel—"The people demand falafel." This was a play on a previous slogan from a few years ago: Dor Shalem Doresh Shalom—"An entire generation demands peace." At first I thought it was funny,” Rabbi Kronish continues, “and then I realized what it really meant. “The people," apparently, are not interested in peace any more. ‘There is no partner,’ they say (as if we ourselves were a serious partner for peace!). And even if there were a serious partner, it is not achievable. Instead, the people want falafel! They don't want to worry all the time about issues of war and peace. They just want a ‘'normal’ life!” He goes on: “I explained to my friend some of the background for this feeling. Many Israelis have given up on the ‘Peace Process.’ It is boring. It never really leads anywhere, so why continue to discuss it.” I wanted to share Rabbi Kronish’s email because this feeling of resignation in Israeli society is pervasive, and understandably so.

In this context, the staff and beneficiaries of the ICB were determined to never give up on Bethlehem. The ICB is committed to continue to build and rebuild, to train and educate, to empower, to create life in the midst of despair, and to continue to call for justice and reconciliation in the midst of conflict and violence. The year 2003 was a year which focused on rebuilding and completing our facilities. We were able to inaugurate two major facilities, Ad-Dar Cultural and Conference Center and Dar al-Kalima Health and Wellness Center. AL-KAHF ARTS AND CRAFTS CENTER Art Workshops For the year 2003, as in previous years, the art workshops held at al-Kahf Arts and Crafts Center continued to operate very successfully and many of the local community benefited from what they had to offer. The art workshops concentrated on various art mediums, focusing especially on the youth but not solely. Bank harvest of hatred Haaretz, Published date November 15, 2002 In the olive groves: Zionist immigrants protect Palestinians from Zionist settlers A large number of American Zionist immigrants, some of whom are religious, joined two separate olive pickings in West Bank Palestinian orchards last weekend. These harvests were organized by Israeli Jews to help protect the Palestinian farmers and their harvest from other Israeli Jews. The results of the two harvests were remarkably different although only a night divided them. This was possibly because Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon, was just forming his soon-to-be heavily publicized campaign to end the `olive war' by offering the Palestinians rare IDF protection. Olives grow mainly in the upper half of the country and provide the main livelihood for many Palestinian families. An average family owns between 50-170 trees, each tree has 20-70 kilos of olives and 1 kilo usually sells for about 5 shekels inside the occupied territories. The official harvesting period is from October 15th until November 15th this year. Many farmers had hoped to finish early before the start of Ramadan on November 6th, when the pickers would be fasting daily from sunrise to sunset. What no one expected was Jewish settlers beating them to it, stealing olives from the trees even before the harvest period opened, and in some cases, attacking the farmers. One 24 year-old villager from Aqraba, Hani Beni Manieh, was killed and three others were wounded in one such attack on the 6th of October.
