2017 - Nyhedsbrev Nr 1 Richard Wagner Selskabet, København Medlem af Richard-Wagner-Verband International e.V. Nyhedsbrev nr. 1 – 2017 April 2017 Kære medlemmer! Siden sidst: Søndag 27. november 2016: Stipendiatkoncert Vi havde besøg af vores stipendiat, Lucas Bruun de Neergaard, som dels fortalte levende og engageret om sit ophold i Bayreuth, dels gav os nogle fine prøver på sit talent og repertoire. Til ledsagelse på flygel havde Lucas taget Christen Stubbe Teglbjærg med, og de 55 deltagere nød en god koncerteftermiddag – på trods af flygelets noget ustemte tilstand. Dette sidste har vi gjort opmærksom på til rette sted. Selskabet ønsker Lucas al mulig held i den fortsatte karriere. Torsdag 19. januar 2017: Wagner and Grail - Koncert med Live Painting Performance. Wagner and Grail Krste Badarovski - Piano Julie Andkjær Olsen - Piano Trine Bastrup Møller - Singer Vladimír Kiseljov - Live Painting Performance Program Tannhäuser - Vorspiel Dich teure Halle Lohengrin – Vorspiel Elsas Traum Parsifal – Vorspiel Ich sah das Kind Tristan und Isolde – Vorspiel Isoldes Liebestod Både Trine Bastrup Møller og Krste Badarovski har været stipendiater i Bayreuth fra selskaberne i hhv. København og Brno. Denne aftens malerikoncert i Laugshuset, København, var en succes. Dels den anderledes tilgang til kunsten, dels selve musikken og maleriet. Mens musikken lød, blev denne stemning samtidigt inspiration for maleren – og et maleri opstod. De 82 tilhørere fik en positivt speciel aften. Torsdag den 2. februar 2017: Foredrag ved Lise Johnsson, lektor, komponist Ved dette genbesøg af lektor og komponist Lise Johnsson blev relationen Franz Liszt og Richard Wagner imellem yderligere belyst. Disse to pionerer havde 150 grader kvint mellem deres sole jf. fødselsdage, blev publikum oplyst om. Franz Liszts 1,5 oktavhånd forklarer hans skrevne musik, navnlig transskriptionerne af Wagners værker. Begge benyttede Djævlens akkord – Tritonus. Deres relationer til og inspiration fra andre komponister blev sat i relief med en stribe navne og eksempler (se bilag) for de 43 tilhørere i Medborgerhuset, Frederiksberg. Atter engang tak for et imponerende foredrag med mange vinkler, facetter og musikalske eksempler. Torsdag 16. marts 2017: Foredrag ved Guido Paevatalu, baryton Barytonen Guido Paevatalu fortalte om sin vej til sine Wagnerroller. Han tog udgangspunkt i sin opvækst i Brønshøj og drengekoret i Fredericiagade, og anførte at vejen også går via Mozart, for ”dér kan man ikke snyde”. Et stort forbillede var Ib Hansen. Vi kom vidt omkring, herunder flere detaljer om den nye komprimerede Tannhäuser. Med Ove Krüger ved klaveret hørtes: Tryllefløjten, Der Vogelfänger bin ich, Figaro, Grevens arie, Don Juan, Champagnearie,, Indledning Venusbjerg, Beckmesser-arie, Morgenlich leuchtend, Abendstern, Maskarade, Jeronimus’ sang. En herlig og morsom aften for de 59 tilhørere i Medborgerhuset, Frederiksberg. Torsdag den 30. marts 2017: Foredrag ved Lars Ole Mathiasen, operachef, Den Ny Opera, Esbjerg Foredragsholderen fortalte sammen med tenoren Jesper Næslund om Ring-projekt på Danmarks vestkyst. De 64 tilhørere fik anskueliggjort hele forløbet fra Den Ny Operas spæde begyndelse i 1999 til nu. De forskellige iscenesættelser blev gennemgået på fornem vis. Spændende var det at høre om orkestergravens forsænkning delvist under scenen efter samme opskrift som i Bayreuth. Selskabet møder talstærkt op til forestillingerne til august. Virkelig en opløftende aften i Laugshuset, København, med tydelig ildhu og engagement. Specielt: Stipendiat takker af i London Vi var 16 glade Wagner-rejsende til premiere 11. marts 2017 på Kasper Holtens afskedsforestilling på The Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Det var Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, og det var et rigtigt dream-cast, der var på plakaten. Vi fik inden forestillingen lejlighed til at hilse på Kasper Holten, som var Selskabets Bayreuthstipendiat tilbage i 1997. In Memoriam Selskabets stifter, første formand og æresmedlem, Mogens Bang, R. p.p., født 23. februar 1940, er ikke mere. Han gik bort den 7. januar 2017. Mogens Bang brændte for den klassiske musik og navnlig for komponisten Richard Wagner og hans operaer. Denne interesse gav ham anledning til at arrangere og deltage i en rejse til Wagner-festspillene i Bayreuth sammen med HM Dronningen og HKH Prins Henrik. Under dette besøg mødte han formanden for Det Internationale Richard Wagner-Forbund, Josef Lienhart. På Josef Lienharts opfordring stiftedes Richard Wagner Selskabet i København den 10. oktober 1994 med Mogens Bang som selskabets første formand. En post han bestred i 10 år. I samme periode var Mogens Bang medlem af Det Internationale Richard Wagner-Forbunds præsidium, hvilket gav Richard Wagner Selskabet mulighed for at stå som vært for den internationale Richard Wagner-kongres, der blev afholdt i København i 2003 med HKH Prins Henrik som protektor. De mange hundrede deltagere fra Wagner-selskaber over hele verden taler stadig om den vellykkede kongres. Mogens Bang blev æresmedlem af Richard Wagner Selskabet i 2005. Richard Wagner Selskabet siger Mogens Bang stor tak for hans initiativ til stiftelsen af Selskabet og for hans mangeårige indsats i Selskabets regi. Bisættelsen fandt sted lørdag den 14. januar 2017, kl. 10:00, fra Helsingør Kirkegårdskapel. Richard Wagner Selskabet var repræsenteret, hvilket Mogens Bangs døtre var meget taknemmelige for.     DECCA DISCOGRAPHY >>V VIENNA, Austria, Germany, Hungary, etc. The Vienna Philharmonic was the jewel in Decca’s crown, particularly from 1956 when the engineers adopted the Sofiensaal as their favoured studio. The contract with the orchestra was secured partly by cultivating various chamber ensembles drawn from its membership. Vienna was favoured for symphonic cycles, particularly in the mid-1960s, and for German opera and operetta, including Strausses of all varieties and Solti’s “Ring” (1958-65), as well as Mackerras’s Janá ček (1976-82). Karajan recorded intermittently for Decca with the VPO from 1959-78. But apart from the New Year concerts, resumed in 2008, recording with the VPO ceased in 1998. Outside the capital there were various sessions in Salzburg from 1984-99. Germany was largely left to Decca’s partner Telefunken, though it was so overshadowed by Deutsche Grammophon and EMI Electrola that few of its products were marketed in the UK, with even those soon relegated to a cheap label. It later signed Harnoncourt and eventually became part of the competition, joining Warner Classics in 1990. Decca did venture to Bayreuth in 1951, ’53 and ’55 but wrecking tactics by Walter Legge blocked the release of several recordings for half a century. The Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra’s sessions moved from Geneva to its home town in 1963 and continued there until 1985. The exiled Philharmonia Hungarica recorded in West Germany from 1969-75. There were a few engagements with the Bavarian Radio in Munich from 1977- 82, but the first substantial contract with a German symphony orchestra did not come until 1982.

    Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte – a partial discographical survey by Ralph Moore There are 128 recordings of Die Zauberflöte listed in the CLOR catalogue, of which around twenty are studio versions. I have tried any number of recordings and long despaired of ever finding one in acceptable sound which does the opera full justice. There are some good mono recordings from the 50’s, sometimes shorn of all dialogue as per Karajan’s, but most collectors understandably want a good stereo version, with the dialogue perhaps cut to manageable proportions for non-German-speakers. That which comes closest is Böhm’s 1964 recording starring Fritz Wunderlich as an ideal Tamino, but the perceived inadequacies of the female singers soon led to the observation that the ideal recording could have been produced by combining the men from Böhm’s recording with the women in Klemperer’s exactly contemporaneous studio recording. As they stand, both are arguably flawed but revisiting them has softened my own objections and few since have offered anything better. At almost every turn, some problem has compromised subsequent studio versions of the stereo and digital eras, such as the presence of throaty, constricted tenors as Tamino like Schreier, blighting all three recordings conducted by Suitner, Sawallisch and Davis, or Araiza for Karajan and Marriner. Finding a good Queen of the Night has been problematic, too; HIP influence has tended to encourage the casting of voices too small and flimsy to do justice to Mozart’s deceptively simple writing, and produced some really inadequate efforts, such as Harnoncourt’s, Norrington’s, Jacobs’ and Christie’s recordings, all of which I have excluded from the reviews below, as their mostly weak casting and small-scale or reduced forces approach render them of little merit as far as my own taste goes.

    1Aage Haugland Aage Grunnet Haugland (1944-2000) Efter nysproglig studentereksamen i 1963 fra Sankt Annæ Gymnasium og med musikalsk udvikling som medlem af Københavns Drenge- og Mandskor startede han på medicinstudiet sammen med de tidligere klassekammerater Peter Steen Pedersen, Steen Watt-Boolsen, Leif C. Christensen og Bjarne F. Knudsen. Samtidig tog han sangundervisning hos Kristian Riis. Barn- og ungdommens deltagelse i kirkemusikken i Christiansborg Slotskirke og siden Vor Frue Domkirke under Mogens Wöldike´s ledelse med store oratorier og musikken knyttet til de kirkelige handlinger fødte hans musikinteresse. Sangundervisningen og den stigende musikinteresse fik ham til at opgive medicinstudiet. Efter vores tid som ”brummere” begyndte vi så småt i 1959 med sangtræning i det dybe leje. Helga Christensen ”Chrissemor” sanglærer på Sangskolen yndede at anvende ”Old man river”. Aage havde allerede dengang en gennemtrængende lyd – så kraftig at han kunne få vinduerne i sanglokalet til at klirre, så når de dybe steder kom, satte Chrissemor sit hoved på skrå og sagde bedende til Aage:”-ikke det, ikke det”. Efter forskellig optræden i kor, studenteroperaen og kirkekoncerter samt kirkesanger i Domkirken blev han i 1967 en tid elev på operaskolen i Oslo. Her fik han et to-årigt engagement ved Den Norske Opera og kom i kontakt med den tyske operainstruktør Götz Friedrich, der introducerede ham for operaen i Bremen, hvor han var ansat 1970-73. I denne periode gæstede han for første gang Den Jyske Opera, hvor han i 22. september 2010 2Aage Haugland 1972 debuterede som Rocco i ”Fidelio” – og i 1973 blev han engageret til Det Kongelige Teater.
