Post Summary: In collaboration with multidisciplinary team to provide a mental health service for children (0-18 age range) with mental health problems referred to Tier 3 services To provide clinical supervision to higher and core trainees To participate in audit of the clinical services for which you work. To play a role in the implementation of Lothian’s Joint Strategy for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and the CAMHS development strategy. To provide reciprocal cover for medical colleagues during periods of annual, professional, or short-term sick leave. Section 3: Departmental and Directorate Information The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is NHS Lothian has a long history in Edinburgh of providing multidisciplinary assessments and evidence based treatments or children, young people and their families and carers. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services are comprised from the following teams: Specialist CAMHS (Outpatient Services / Tier 3): 1. North Edinburgh CAMHS (including separate ADHD and neurodevelopmental team) / Dr Franciske Evans and Dr Katy Vlitos (consultants), Dr Desni Nixon (speciality doctor) and 1 Higher Trainee and 1 Core Trainee 2. South Edinburgh CAMHS (including separate ADHD team) / Dr Livia Katay and Dr Leonie Boeing (consultants) and vacant post, Dr Saffa Saleh (Speciality Doctor), 1 Higher Trainee and 1 Core Trainee 3. Midlothian CAMHS / Dr Nicky Cannon (consultant) and new post, Dr Sue Ella Holmes (Speciality Doctor) , 1 Higher Trainee and 1 Core Trainee 4. East Lothian CAMHS / Dr Abhilasha Sinha (Consultant) and Dr Matt Bell (speciality doctor) 5. West Lothian CAMHS (including separate ADHD/ASD team) / Dr Susie Hume , Dr Catharine Thomas and Dr Lucy Russell (Consultants) and Dr Mary Parrish (Speciality Doctor) and 1 Higher Trainee and 1 Core Trainee Each sector team is multi-professional comprising Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Community Mental Health Workers, Nurse therapists, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers. They all have bases in their geographical areas. In addition to that, there is a well established Paediatric Liaison Team (Dr Angela Jones, Consultant and 1 Higher Trainee), the Specialist Learning Disability Team (Dr Duncan Manders, Consultant, Dr Smita Shetty, Speciality Doctor and 1 Higher Trainee) and the Outpatient Tier 4 Service (Dr Ereni Skouta, Consultant, Dr Maia Forrester and Dr Nicky Friedland, Speciality Doctors and 1 Higher Trainee). We are fortunate to have the Regional Adolescent Inpatient Unit (IPU), which has 12 beds for over 12s, (Dr Kevin Brown, Consultant, 1 Higher Trainee and 1 GPST). Neurodevelopment assessments are conducted within the Tier 3 services in specialist ADHD teams, Autism Assessment Hubs or within the generic teams. South Edinburgh Outpatient Team: South Edinburgh CAMHS O/P team is located at the newly renovated Lauriston Building in the heart of Edinburgh. Apart from the Consultant Psychiatrists and as it is appropriate in a truly multidisciplinary team, the other senior clinicians who manage the team are Dr Jenny Scott, Consultant Psychologist and Tommy Blue, Advanced Practionner, Band 7 Nurse. http://careers.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk Overall the team comprises of 4.5 WTE Nursing, 4.8 WTE Clinical Psychology, 1.8 WT Occupational Therapy and 0.25 WTE of Social Work. The team serves a population of around 250, 000 (estimated around 50, 000 children). There are strong links with Social Work, Education, local GPs and the 3rd sector. Cases get routinely triaged by an experienced small group of clinicians and then prioritised appropriately. There is a weekly multidiscinary team meeting where the expertise of the team is used to manage cases. A number of therapies are provided with good evidence base from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Supportive Therapy, Pharmacotherapy and Family Work. Some clinicians have skills in disorder based therapies such as Family Based Therapy for eating disorders. There are strong initiatives to reduce waiting times. The presentations of the children and young people vary from anxiety, depression, self harm to eating disorders. Care and treatment plans are formulation based. The team has a separate ADHD team headed by Dr Leonie Boeing and this post holder’s job plan does not routine include ADHD work. Like all of the Edinburgh and the Lothians CAMHS teams, the South Team clinicians have direct access to the Tier 4 Inpatient and Outpatient teams in order to increase level of support, access complexity in an intensive manner or manage risk that requires multi- professional involvement. The South Team has been considered for many years a very good training placement for Core and Higher Trainees in Psychiatry. The newly created South CAMHS base is easily accessible by bus, train or bike for those who chose to commute. It is 10 minutes walk from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle and 20 minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverly train station and Haymarket train station. The team finally is well known for its friendly, supportive atmosphere proven by the subtiantial stability of staff group. Section 4: Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical: Run routine out-patient clinics for CAMHS referrals Supervision to Higher and Core Trainees as required As well as run their own out patient clinics, they will liaise closely with multidisciplinary colleagues when a psychiatric opinion is required. Make referrals to Tier 4 services where appropriate and liaise with these and other services as required Provide consultant psychiatry cover for day time emergencies Record clinical work
