Established in 2014, the All Nations Kitchen Garden is an urban food demonstration site located in All Nations Park, Separation Street, Northcote (behind Northcote Plaza and opposite Santa Maria College). A passionate and dedicated group of local residents have been caring for the multilayered garden of fruit trees, medicinal plants and herbs. They recently celebrated the garden’s second anniversary, engaging Fruit Squad volunteers to hold a fruit tree pruning workshop. A keen group of about 12 local residents were shown how to deal with gall wasp and borer, and prune to maximise tree health and fruit yield. Participants were rewarded for their efforts with a beautiful chocolate mud birthday cake. To get involved with the All Nations Kitchen Garden, drop by the site on the first Sunday of the month when the group hold their regular working bees, or contact Lee Tozzi on [email protected] or 8470 8392 Page 2 A New Community Garden for East Preston Darebin Council has joined with the Pavilion School in Sylvester Grove, Reground helps Preston to create a new shared public space for the community to enjoy, grow cafés turn coffee food and connect with their neighbours. waste into garden Located on the Pavilion School grounds at the corner of Dean and Gray food! BACKGROUND STUDIES for the Darebin City Whole of Water Cycle Management Strategy and Implementation Plan 2015-2025 Prepared By: Environment and Natural Resources, Darebin City Council with assistance from E2Designlab. This may include rainwater, stormwater, creek/river water and recycled water. Blackwater: Sewage or water discharged from toilets and kitchen sinks. Catchment: An area that drains to a given point, typically drainage is dictated by topography but may be modified by man-made structures including drains and canals. Desalinated Water: Potable water that is produced by removing salt and other minerals from seawater or brackish water. Directly connected impervious (DCI): the proportion of the impervious surface of a catchment that is directly connected to a stream through a conventional drainage connection. It is an established indicator of the likely degradation of ecological health in urban waterways due to stormwater. Evapotranspiration: The combined processes of evaporation (i.e. the transfer of water from the land to the atmosphere) and transpiration (i.e. the transfer of water from plants to the atmosphere). Green Roofs: Green roofs consist of a growing medium, typically soil, and vegetation placed on a roof surface. The vegetation and soil soak up rainfall and in the process reduce runoff and pollutants entering the stormwater drainage network. Green roofs may be extensive (i.e. thin growing media that only support small plants) or intensive (i.e. deep growing media that supports large shrubs and even trees). Green Walls: A wall that is partially or completely covered with vegetation, this vegetation is supported by a growing medium such as soil.

  • 21St September 2018 Submission to the House Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts Inquiry Into Factors Contributing
21st September 2018 Submission to the House Standing Committee on Communications and The Arts Inquiry into factors contributing to the growth and sustainability of the Australian Music Industry https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/House/Communications/ Australianmusicindustry INTRODUCTION Thank you for considering this submission, which is in collaboration with the Australian Association of Musicians (AM). My name is Andrew Barnum, as a PhD candidate at UTS in the Faculty of Arts and Social Science, my study is investigating the cultural contexts of Identity, Artifact and Change through the lens of Australian Song in the age of digital music. To date I’ve interviewed thirty-five Australian songwriters (genders and music genres) to understand the conditions in which their practice exists in Australia. In consideration of the terms of reference stated for this inquiry, it’s important to start with some unifying statements as drivers of purpose for this submission. WHAT ARE OUR COMMON BELIEFS AS AUSTRALIANS? As a community of Australian artists and citizens, we are informed by the belief that our nation should strive to be a productive nation - empathic, respectful, imaginative, industrious, adaptive, open and successful. (Creative Australia 2013) In this submission we are considering the reasons why our Association should support these beliefs as central to our strategy to re-invigorate The Australian music Industry, which is both a cultural and commercial Australian enterprise, locally and globally. This submission considers the factors that will grow and sustain our uniquely Australian Music Industry, as a proud Cultural and Creative Industry, and in doing so, confirm our sense of self as Australian musical entrepreneurs, our desire to feel we belong here in our birthplace as Australian artists, producers and copyright holders, and can sustain livelihood and opportunity at home, as productive members of the field of cultural production in Australia.
