Religion: Predominantly Roman Catholic, although Protestant denominations are expanding rapidly. The area also has a lot of superstition and animism carried over from old Incan religious traditions. Profile: Samaritan’s Purse operates a boat in the Bolivian Amazon bringing medical and dental aid to unreached river-bordering communities, as well as the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of the communities in the Bolivian Amazon are disconnected from the rest of the world. They have no access to land and air transport, communication, or basic humanitarian services. Consequently, many are suffering a variety of illnesses, both medical and dental. We do this through providing 6 basic needs: clean water, proper nutrition, healthcare, education, job skills, and a loving home. Our medical clinic is located in the rural village of Manyan, about 15 minutes outside of Gonaive, Haiti. Gonaives is a unique town in Haiti in that it is known as Haiti’s “Independence City”. Gonaives is a 4-hour drive from Port-au-Prince where the international airport is. Coreluv is a nondenominational organization that welcomes anyone and everyone willing to follow the command of scripture in Isaiah 1:17 to “defend the orphan.” . Profile: Haiti Health Ministries (HHM) Medical Clinic is an outpatient clinic offering patient care, patient education, laboratory services, pharmacology, sonography, radiology, and minor surgery. Approximately 130 patients are treated daily, 30,000 yearly. Croix (HSC) Léogâne, Haiti Denomination affiliation: Episcopal Diocese of Haiti Having started as a small outpatient clinic in 1968, the hospital has grown to be the primary hospital in Léogâne, serving the neediest in the community. HSC is a 60 bed inpatient facility with three operating rooms, maternity care, a new dental clinic and medical care for both chronic and acute illness. MBF has partnered with HSC since 1982 supporting a significant number of construction and renovation projects on the campus. MBF continues to support the hospital through helping them develop and implement effective business plans and projects that will lead, ultimately to sustainability. The ministry is Hospital Loma de Luz in Balfate, Colón, Honduras. Hospital Loma de Luz is located 37 miles east of La Ceiba and is situated on a hill overlooking the shore of the Caribbean Sea. Due to rough road conditions the drive from La Ceiba to the hospital is approximately 1½ hours. Religion: Although 95% of the population is considered Roman Catholic, it is extremely unlikely that most of these will have read or heard even the most basic precepts of the faith. Profile: In January 2003, Hospital Loma de Luz saw its grand inauguration and has faithfully been serving the rural poor in Honduras ever since. Loma de Luz is a 30,000 square foot, 20 bed modern full-service medical care facility. Working through its Honduran Board of Directors (APAH), Hospital Loma de Luz is a rarity in the small world of Christian mission hospitals. The hospital is at 2,730 ft in elevation and the mountains around the hospital range from 5,000-9,000ft. Religion: You will find that the majority of those in Honduras who claim a religious belief claim Catholicism. There is a Catholic church in almost every town square with masses held frequently. There are also a growing number of Protestant churches spread throughout Honduras. You will also find on occasion Mormon temples, witchcraft, etc. Profile: The Center provides a medical clinic, emergency center, X-ray services, a fully stocked pharmacy, and a diagnostic laboratory. Working together, medical professionals from Honduras and North America provide excellent care and life-changing surgeries that help save lives or significantly improve the quality of life for many Hondurans. Religion: About 20% of the population call themselves Evangelicals. While predominantly Roman Catholic, there is complete freedom to preach the Gospel. Profile: Hospital Evangelico was founded in 1949. It was founded by the Central American Mission (CAM International). In 1969 the hospital was transferred to national hands, becoming an autonomous national organization that is a fraternal member of the Association of Central American Churches of Honduras.
