Best Short Story Forrest J Ackerman Big Heart Award Presenter: Connie Willis, Colorado Author The Big Heart Award was created by two prominent fans, “Last Contact” by Stephen Baxter Forrest J Ackerman and Walter Daugherty. They did so in “Tideline” by Elizabeth Bear the name of that era’s special fan and pro E. Everett Evans “Who’s Afraid of Wolf 359?” by Ken MacLeod who, in passing, personified the remarkable spirit of science “Distant Replay” by Mike Resnick fiction fandom. There are some special fans who are known “A Small Room in Koboldtown” by Michael Swanwick for their selfless deeds—each one of whom has a spirit of big-heartedness, specially singled out once a year for The Big Heart Award. In 2006, this award was renamed in honor of one its founders, Forrest J Ackerman.
