Key Findings

There is sufficient number of 2, 3 and 4 year old funded places across the area with 339 places for 243 eligible children

For 0-2’s 8.3% of children can access a childcare place The area has 321 children living in the 20% Most Deprived areas (IDACI), an increase of 70 from October 2017 Migration of children to childcare providers within and without the area for summer 2018 is -18 with 44 coming in and 62 going out In addition to future growth through planning permissions over the next 5 years 500 new homes are being planned east of (an additional 48 funded places if/when homes are occupied)

The Out Of School Clubs and holiday provision appear to meet demand

Parents currently have a choice of the type of provider they can access

Ofsted rated ‘Good or Outstanding’ is at 100% for group providers and 100% for childminders

New provision would need to be of high quality to compete in this market and provide a flexible offer to meet parents needs

Of the 399 three & four year olds there are possibly 196 wanting a funded childcare place as 203 four year olds have been offered their place in Reception class. There are 47 eligible 2 year olds

339 of the 357 places available are for funded children

Open and Closed Providers – This area has gained 1 Childminder and 1 Pre-school Playgroup but lost 1 Nursery Class and 1 Pre-school Playgroup with a net gain of 14 places

There is a maximum of 965 fifteen hour funded places available. To balance business needs and parental demand providers will choose the number of funded places made available
