1 2 PLAYLIST SEPT. 22nd 2013 9AM The Beatles - Come Together - Abbey Road (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John 3 The Beatles’ twenty-first single release for EMI, and fourth on the Apple Records label. When John and Yoko were in Montreal staging their second and last Bed-In For Peace they were visited by Timothy Leary, an outspoken proponent of LSD. During their visit, Leary and his wife participated in John and Yoko’s hotel room recording of “Give Peace A Chance,” singing on the chorus. Timothy is even name-checked in the lyrics. He asked John to write a song titled “Come Together – Join The Party” for his bid to become governor of California. Lennon obliged and responded with lyrics such as: “Come together right now/Don’t come tomorrow, don’t come alone/Come together right now over me.” Lennon recorded a demo for Leary, who started using it as his campaign song. After being imprisoned for possession of marijuana in late 1969, Leary dropped out of the gubernatorial race, which was won by Ronald Reagan. Lennon reworked and expanded the song for the Beatles. The Beatles - The Ballad Of John And Yoko - Non-LP track (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John The Beatles’ twentieth single release for EMI, and third on the Apple Records label. The first Beatles single issued in stereo in the UK, it is also the very first stereo single issued by EMI. The “Get Back” single had been released in stereo in America by Capitol. Recorded on April 14, 1969, by just John and Paul, the song was completed that day.

1 Playlist July 24th 2016 Beatles songs you know and love… Just slightly different. 2 9AM The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There – Please Please Me TK #9 (McCartney-Lennon) Lead vocal: Paul Recorded February 11, 1963. A Paul McCartney original, the song was written in one day in September 1962 in the front parlor of 20 Forthlin Road, Allerton (the McCartney family from 1955 to 1964), with John Lennon helping with some of the lyrics. It was recorded under its working title, “Seventeen,” at the marathon recording session that produced the majority of songs for the Beatles’ debut album. A fan favorite, the Beatles recorded “I Saw Her Standing There” eleven times for BBC Radio between March 1963 and May 1964. McCartney has said that his bass line was lifted almost note for note from the obscure Chuck Berry song “I’m Talking About You,” released by Berry in February 1961. The Beatles performed “I’m Talking About You” at some of their club shows in 1962 and 1963. It is included on the “Live! At The Star Club” CD. 3 Specially selected by Capitol Records staff members to be the b-side of the American “I Want to Hold Your Hand” single on Capitol in the U.S., replacing “This Boy” for the honor. The first song on the first Beatles LP. • Music Appreciation 2013
MUSIC APPRECIATION 2012 - 2013 OCTOBER 2012 The Music Appreciation Group is boldly going where no other music groups have gone before. We are attempting to cover all forms of recorded music to widen everyone's appreciation. Individuals will bring in a piece of music to be played and discussed. Initial interests appear to include Classical, Opera, Jazz, Blues, Rock and fusions in between. Music can be from MP3, CD, Cassette, or Vinyl (Well - we've all been around for a while. No 8 track cartridges though) DECEMBER 2012 The Group met in the Nags Head, as before, and there was no losing battle with an amplifier this time so we got straight into the recordings people brought in. A good range of music poured forth. We started with a local band 'North Sea International' doing Parisienne Walkways, through bluegrass music, Cat Stevens, Tony Christie, Runrig, Fleetwood Mac, Lindisfarne, Eagles, to Silent Night by Mahalia Jackson. Probably the most impressive track was Luiyang River by young Chinese piano virtuoso Di Xiao who had been playing at the Royal Concert Hall a few weeks earlier. The cultural highlight? - If you've never heard Rolf Harris's version of 'Stairway to Heaven' you missed a treat. JANUARY 2013 The Music Appreciation Group continues with its mix of all and any style of music – dependent on what members bring in. We had Verdi’s Hebrew Slaves, English Folk, Rock, Cajun, Sam Cooke, Nigel Kennedy, Buena Vista Orchestra, Reggae, Gregorian Chants, Traffic, Bob Dylan, Hugh Laurie, Jimi Hendrix and others. FEBRUARY 2013 A bumper compilation album; an eclectic mix of music brought in by members.

ALL THINGS MUST PASS (1970, Platina) 2. CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH (1971) 3. LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD (1973) 4. DARK HORSE (1974) 5. EXTRA TEXTURE (1975) 6. BEST OF GEORGE HARRISON (1976) 7. 33 AND A 1/3 (1976) 8. GEORGE HARRISON (1979) 9. CLOUD NINE (1987, Platina) 10. BRAINWASHED (2002) All Things Must Pass en Cloud Nine behaalden dus zelfs platina. THE TRAVELING WILBURYS (1988, 3x platina) 2. • Happy Birthday George 2014
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE! SPECIAL GUEST KEITH ALLISON 9AM The Beatles - Love You To - Revolver (Harrison) Lead vocal: George George’s first composition written with Indian instruments in mind. The basic track was recorded in six takes on April 11, 1966. The song’s working title was “Granny Smith,” a reference to the name of the green apple popular in the UK. George’s lead vocal was recorded on April 12. A harmony vocal by Paul was omitted in the final mix. The tabla is played by Anil Bhagwat, who is credited on the album’s back cover. It is assumed that George Harrison plays the sitar on this track. The phrase “Love You To” does not appear in the song. The closest George comes to the title is “I’ll make love to you if you want me to.” Two years later, the Granny Smith apple would become the logo for The Beatles’ company, Apple Corps, and would be featured on their record labels. With the exception of the “Let It Be” album issued in 1970, which had a red apple featured on the label, the standard Apple Records album and single labels displayed a bright green Granny Smith apple on the A-side, while the flipside/Side 2 displayed the midsection of the apple cut in half. On U.S. album: Revolver - Capitol LP The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun - Abbey Road (Harrison) Lead vocal: George The second of two CLASSIC songs George Harrison delivered for the “Abbey Road” album. “Here Comes The Sun” and “Something” was a phenomenal one-two punch that had to have Lennon and McCartney wondering what else Harrison had up his sleeve.
