HBO MAX Orders Pilot Script for FLEDGLING Based on Octavia Butler Novel HBO MAX orders pilot script for FLEDGLING based on Octavia Butler novel HBO Max announced that the streaming platform ordered the script for a pilot episode of FLEDGLING, based on the novel written by Octavia E. Butler. FLEDGLING tells the story of a seemingly young girl who, after suffering episodes of amnesia realizes she is actually a vampire and must fight a group of people who want to destroy her and those close to her. FLEDGLING will be directed and written by Jonathan I. Kidd, Sonya Winton-Odamtten, and executive produced by Issa Rae (HOORAE), Montrel McKay (HOORAE), J.J. Abrams (Bad Robot) and Ben Stephenson (Bad Robot). Co-executive producers are Rachel Rusch Rich (Bad Robot), Sara Rastogi (HOORAE) and Ray Ricord. The studio is Warner Bros. Television. Biographical Information:Jonathan I. Kidd and Sonya Winton-Odamtten: Former Columbia University and UCLA college professors, playwrights, and documentarians, Jonathan I. Kidd and Sonya Winton-Odamtten forged their creative partnership at Yale University where they both earned PhDs in African American Studies/English and African American Studies/Political Science, respectively.In 2009, Kidd and Winton-Odamtten broke into the industry when they were accepted into the Warner Bros. Television Writers’ Workshop. Subsequently, they served as staff writers on ABC’s legal drama The Whole Truth and went on to earn a blind script deal from Warner Horizon Television through which they acquired the life rights to the Fred Hayman, a.k.a “Mr. Beverly Hills,” story for their dark 1970’s soap, Rodeo Drive. Shortly thereafter, the GLAAD Award nominated writing team ramped up their development slate with their spec sale to Showtime for The 4th Reich and their dynastic family drama Southern Gothic that they sold to Lifetime with Catherine Hardwick attached to direct.Finally, this past spring the dynamic duo launched the first in what will be a series of philanthropist endeavors with their Feed Covid-19 Health Workers Challenge, through which they recruited other black Hollywood writers to feed Covid wards in underserved black hospitals around the country. The long-term goals of Kidd and Winton-Odamtten include bridging partnerships between Hollywood and 501c3’s around the globe to address issues of medical apartheid, environmental racism, and educational disparities. About HOORAE:HOORAE is a multi-faceted media company that develops content across mediums and genres in an effort to continue to break boundaries in storytelling and representation. HOORAE is comprised of HOORAE Productions for film, tv and digital; Raedio, the music label in partnership with Atlantic Records; and ColorCreative, its management division. About Bad Robot:Bad Robot was formed by filmmaker J.J. Abrams in 2001. Questions are raised, ideas are alluded to, that the artist may not know how to develop or bring into focus. But that's OK, because maybe we don't know what to do with them either. Some ideas are just too hard to integrate into the dominant projects of our lives. Some ideas, by their very nature, will always take us by surprise. Such a work of art—full of surprising, imperfectly integrated allusions—is Source Code , a mainstream Hollywood studio production released in 2011. Most critics passed it by with tepid approval, taking it for little more than a well-made thriller with a science fiction premise and a romantic subplot, notable mainly for the fact that its director, Duncan Jones, is the son of David Bowie. A few reviewers, however, caught a deeper resonance in the film—the tell-tale signs of an artist at work—even if they didn't quite know what to make of it. 1 One of the film's champions, Andrew O'Hehir of Salon , tried to put his finger on this special quality in his initial review. FilmL.A.’s official count shows that 201 broadcast, cable and digital pilots (123 Dramas, 78 Comedies) were produced during the 2015-16 development cycle, one less than the prior year and the third straight year in which more than 200 pilots were produced. Out of those 201 pilots, 79 projects (25 Dramas, 54 Comedies) were filmed in the Los Angeles region. This represents a 13 percent drop from last year, when 91 pilot projects filmed here and it is also the lowest number of pilots in the last six years that were produced in the region.

He teaches chemistry classes when Chad and his girlfriend cause distraction. After class he sits in an empty room and scores quizzes while eating a sandwich. Margaret enters the room and buys soda. Walt wishes her a happy birthday, and she smokes a cigarette, telling him: Don't go. Cut at the car wash: Amir is on the phone with his son, who appears to quit his job.

    Going West in Breaking Bad: Ambiguous Morality, Violent Masculinity, and the Antihero’s Role in the Evolution of the American Western Amanda Knopf Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad tells a story about more than cancer, chemistry, and meth. Viewing the series as a tale of the American West illuminates the ways it highlights and challenges entrenched American ideals. Looking through a historical and cinematic lens to analyze Breaking Bad as a Western, I will argue that we can discover how tropes of the Western genre continue to influence contemporary American identity. Although there have been ambiguous protagonists similar to Walt in Western film and literature, Gilligan takes this trope to a more intimate level, inviting us into an irresistible love-hate relationship with Walt, who at first resembles the typical white, middle-class, American man but transforms into the horrific Machiavellian beast, Heisenberg. Specifically, I will contend that Breaking Bad draws on Western motifs but also that Gilligan, through rethinking the iconic endings of famous Westerns, recharges the genre with new meanings.
