HBO MAX orders pilot script for FLEDGLING based on Octavia Butler novel

HBO Max announced that the streaming platform ordered the script for a pilot episode of FLEDGLING, based on the novel written by Octavia E. Butler. FLEDGLING tells the story of a seemingly young girl who, after suffering episodes of amnesia realizes she is actually a vampire and must fight a group of people who want to destroy her and those close to her. FLEDGLING will be directed and written by Jonathan I. Kidd, Sonya Winton-Odamtten, and executive produced by Issa Rae (HOORAE), Montrel McKay (HOORAE), J.J. Abrams (Bad Robot) and Ben Stephenson (Bad Robot). Co-executive producers are Rachel Rusch Rich (Bad Robot), Sara Rastogi (HOORAE) and Ray Ricord. The studio is Warner Bros. Television. Biographical Information:Jonathan I. Kidd and Sonya Winton-Odamtten: Former Columbia University and UCLA college professors, playwrights, and documentarians, Jonathan I. Kidd and Sonya Winton-Odamtten forged their creative partnership at Yale University where they both earned PhDs in African American Studies/English and African American Studies/Political Science, respectively.In 2009, Kidd and Winton-Odamtten broke into the industry when they were accepted into the Warner Bros. Television Writers’ Workshop.
