THERE WAS A COLOURFUL LINE-UP BESIDE ST LUKE’S, LIVERPOOL ON OCTOBER 20, BUT THE people were not lined up to get into the packed bicentenary celebration – rather, they were preparing to read the Bible in the more than 20 languages of people in the parish. The different tongues ringing out from the congregation was in sharp contrast to the first meetings in the colonial outpost in 1819, when the countryside of Liverpool welcomed its new Georgian-style church.

  • Diocese of Chester Cycle of Prayer
Diocese of Chester Cycle of Prayer – 2nd August to 5th September 2020 Welcome As this is being compiled pandemic restrictions have begun to ease but resources previously used for this Diocesan Cycle of Prayer remain unavailable. Consequently, and like the three previous monthly editions, the Cycle is once again being produced in a temporary format. The intention is that despite the difficulties of present circumstances our informed intercession for one another should be maintained. As always every parish, deanery and church school is included in order over the course of the complete year. The dioceses of the Anglican Communion worldwide are also included – a very longstanding commitment in this diocese that goes back several generations. The one change in content to that in the printed version is that Sunday entries have become prompts for prayer and reflection based on a thought taken from one of the lectionary passages for the day. These entries are simply ‘thoughts for the day’ that may, or may not (!), aid your own reflection on scripture. They are offered not as models but encouragements to your own endeavours. If you would like to contribute to these ‘prompts,’ please be in touch. As always, intentions for inclusion in future issues are also welcome, please email [email protected] Christopher Burkett Editor and Director of Ministry 2 August The Eighth Sunday after Trinity (Prompted by the Gospel set for Proper 13A) Jesus orders the crowds to sit down. I went on a time management course once, and one of the things we were encouraged to do was to let a person know non-verbally when you haven't got time to deal with them – we were told to stand up, and that would sent most people on their way! I'm troubled by the pastoral insensitivity of it, but nonetheless it's an interesting point.

  • Cycle of Prayer
Cycle of Prayer 13 January - 11 May 2019 Diocese of Chester Receive the daily Cycle of Prayer on: www.facebook.com/dioceseofchester Key: C = Clergy LM = Licensed Lay Minister (Reader) (Pastoral Worker) (Youth Worker) Diocesan entries from the Anglican Cycle of Prayer are in italics. Chester Diocesan Board of Finance. Church House, 5500 Daresbury Park, Daresbury, Warrington WA4 4GE. Tel: 01928 718834 Chester Diocesan Board of Finance is a company limited by guarantee registered in England (no. 7826) Registered charity (no. 248968) Foreword This Cycle of Prayer is a reminder to pray. The best reminders have a regular rhythm about them. The reminders of the importance of family life naturally take the form of anniversary events and celebrations. The Christian Year was established for just this purpose, building upon the annual rhythm of ritual and celebration which was well developed in Jewish life. Christmas, Easter, and all the other features and festivals of the Christian Year, are there to remind us of key features of the Gospel story, and the life of the Church. The diocesan daily Cycle of Prayer is provided as a reminder to pray – and a reminder of the central importance of prayer to the Church, and the Christian life. +Peter Face painting in Edgeley Welcome ‘It seems to me their faith is too much about religion and not enough about Christianity.’ The speaker was describing a couple much involved in the life of their local church who had left a lonely aged parent needing assistance to his own devices. The criticism caused me to ponder on my perhaps too easy promise to pray for people.

  • Equal Voices)
Dear Aden, Please find below my response to the question I took on notice from Ms Mihailuk, including 5 attached documents taken from the publicly available records on the Sydney Diocesan Services website (https://www.sds.asn.au/). Thank you, Elise Christian (Equal Voices). In response to Ms Mihailuk's request for documentation and clarification relating to the proceedings of the 2019 Synod of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney as they related to Gender Identity and the Church's treatment of trans and gender diverse people, I provide the following outline plus attachments (5 PDF documents attached; all taken from the publicly available records on the Sydney Diocesan Services website, https://www.sds.asn.au/). In summary, the Synod was asked to consider a suite of proposed policy and guidelines documents prepared by a subcommittee of Standing Committee ("the Committee"). Two of the three documents presented to Synod by the Committee were passed in amended form (see Minutes, attachment 1 below), after a lengthy process of questions and debate (these documents in final form attachments numbered 2 and 3 below). The third document (current form attachment numbered 4 below) was presented in a form (attachment numbered 5 below) which included the words to which I made reference during my evidence - "encourage the person who has already transitioned to consider de-transitioning". After strong representations from intersex and trans advocates, this phrase was amended to the following: "Any discussion about the appropriateness of transitioning should only be given in the context of care and compassion and ideally in a relationship which has established trust.
