    For Immediate release Toronto, ON (June 17, 2010) The Polaris Music Prize Long List was revealed today by Steve Jordan, Prize Founder and Executive Director. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the prize, which awards $20,00 to the best full-length Canadian album, judged solely on artistic merit, without regard to genre or record sales. This is the second year Polaris has made the Long List public. The Long List consists of the top 40 full- length Canadian records released from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010, according to an initial vote by the 198 members of the Polaris Music Prize jury. The jury consists of music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers from across Canada. No music industry personnel with direct financial relationships with artists vote for Polaris. “This year we are experiencing a growing excitement for the Long List. To see why one need only study the breadth and quality of the various records on this year’s edition,” said Jordan. Jordan also announced that the Long List is once again being presented by the Canada Council for the Arts. The Head of the Council’s Music Section, Russell Kelley, said "the Polaris Prize is given to the best album of the year based solely on artistic merit, a key criteria the Canada Council for the Arts uses in its decisions in funding the arts. Given this connection, it is a natural fit for the Council to support the Polaris Long List." The Polaris Jury will now vote on the Long List titles to determine the 10 album Polaris Music Prize Short List which will be revealed July 6 at the Drake Hotel in Toronto and broadcast live across Canada and the U.S.

    SAVOUR THE SOUTHEAST RETURNS AND CHOOSES FUNDS RECIPIENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 4, 2016 It is with great pleasure that we announce today the return of Savour the Southeast on May 13th 2017 at Affinity Place. Last year’s event was a great success and organizers are hoping to make the 2017 version even better than last year. This year’s recipients of the funds will be the Estevan Kinsmen and Kinnettes club. The funds will go toward the building of a multipurpose facility in the Kin Park located in the hillside subdivision. Organizations had the ability to complete the online application for funding from September 15th – October 15th. After reviewing the seven applications that were received the committee which consisted of Josh LeBlanc, Jeff Walters and Heidi Hesselink were able to make the decision. “This decision was not an easy one to make, we would like to thank everyone for their submissions however we believe that the funds from the event will go to providing assistance to a long needed capital improvement in our city” said LeBlanc who is the Co-Chair of the Committee. “The Kinsmen and Kinettes hope to create a lasting legacy project for the the residents of the city and that is something we are proud to be a part of”. The event for 2017 promises to be bigger and better than last year. “We know that there were some crowd flow issues last year, we have fixed those” states LeBlanc. This year the goal is to increase the amount of total vendor’s form 50 to 65 for the year to come.

    “Crazy B****”: Discriminatory Language, Radio Censorship, Regulation, and Enforcement Policies in Canada by Rebecca Irene Marie Foley A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS GRADUATE PROGRAM IN COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE YORK UNIVERSITY TORONTO, ONTARIO April 2016 Rebecca Irene Marie Foley, 2016 Abstract This thesis focuses on the censorship, or lack thereof, of discriminatory language on Canadian radio stations. In addition to purely discriminatory based language, this project also investigated the ways in which race, gender, sexuality, and ability were employed in popular music. Two data sets were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively to find that private and public radio stations in Canada are more likely to censor discriminatory or explicit content than their community station counterparts. Further, discriminatory language based on gender, is not only more likely to be contained in popular music, but it is also less likely to be censored in comparison to language based on racial or sexual orientation based discrimination. The first data set included 485 songs from the Billboard Hot 100 charts between 1985 and 2015. The second data set included 2818 songs from a six-month period (May-October 2015) of the top twenty charts from 27 different radio stations in Canada, including private, public, and community stations.
