Hudson Papers Collection 193 Biographical Information A. L. Hudson is a layman living in Baker City, Oregon. A printer by trade and a theologian by interest, he became enmeshed in many of the theological controversies within the Seventh-day Adventist Church from the 1950's to the 1980's. He was one of the principle printers for many of the independent movements during those times including Andreasen and Brinsmead. Due to his theological positions, he ran afoul of the church structure from the local church to the General Conference. He was disfellowshipped in 1961, but remained engaged and continued to attend church. Scope The papers consists of correspondence, manuscripts, notes, and various manuscripts written not only by A. L. Hudson but also by authors, such as Brinsmead, Andreasen, and others. Arrangement The correspondence files are arranged chronologically. This will help the researcher understand the context from which the letter came better than in an alphabetical arrangement by writer. The topical files are arranged alphabetically. See the following inventory. Provenance The A. L. Hudson Papers were donated to the Andrews University Adventist Heritage Center in 1998, by Mr. Hudson. Use All users of this collection will be required to complete the "Application to Use Unpublished Records," and to observe the regulations specified in the "Patron Agreement" and "Researcher's Code of Conduct." All records in this collection are open and available for research, except that photocopies may not be made until after April, 2008. -

The question has occupied the minds of generations of people the world over. One has only to look at the proliferation of world religions to see that man seeks after something better than is contained in this life. In the Christian realm with a seemingly simple Biblical answer of, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved" (Acts 16:31 ), it would seem that the question is answered beyond any need for discussion, but Christian history would teach us otherwise. What does it mean to believe on the Lord Jesus? What is involved in this belief? And Who is Jesus? In the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the topic of Christ's nature has caused heated debate. -

Purpose The study has the limited objective of attempting to trace possible antecedents for Andreasen’s final-generation theology in the writings of other Adventists, in order to determine the degree of uniqueness or variance in Andreasen’s views. -

We can do nothing to bring about our own salvation or even change our standing before God. Instead, God, seeing our great need, has done what we cannot do. Toward a Biblical Theology of God’s Judgment: A Celebration of the Cross in Seven Phases of Divine Universal Judgment (An Overview of a Theocentric- Christocentric Approach) Jir¥ˆí Moskala Andrews University The Scriptural teaching about judgment lies at the center of GodÕs revela- tion. It is a crux of the biblical message, giving a profound paradigm for our thinking. Next to the fundamental proclamation that God is the Creator (Gen 1Ð2), the Lord is presented as the Judge: In the Garden of Eden there is the first reference to the trial judgment (Gen 3:8Ð24),1 where the grace and justice of God are intermingled.2 The biblical Flood narrative is an account about judg- ment (Gen 6Ð9).3 Abraham called God Òthe Judge of all the earthÓ (Gen 18:25). Spes Christiana 31.1, 2020, 85‒102 Authority and Conscience1 The Authority of the Denomination and the Freedom of the Pastor Reinder Bruinsma Abstract The article firstly deals with church authority in general and with the way this is understood and functions in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. All church authority is delegated authority, and the church’s authority is always subject to God and the revelation in his Word. The Adventist governmental structure has not always sufficiently resisted authoritarian and hierarchical tendencies. The second part of this arti- cle focuses on the relationship between the pastor and his employing church entity. His freedom is limited, in terms of church policies and in expressing theologically unacceptable opinions. On the other hand, he cannot be expected to show blind obedience, and some forms of dissent can actually enrich the community. The pastor must listen to his conscience, but must in some cases expect to be disciplined. Any discipline requires great care, lest political elements and a denial of the right of critical thinking obscure the real issues. 1. Church Authority Authority and compliance are topics that dominate much of recent Adventist discussion. Many are concerned about the manner in which authority func- tions within the denominational structure, and wonder whether the exercise of this authority is not too much “top-down” and has not acquired too many hierarchical features.
