LOOKING BACK AT YESTERDAY’S ACTION: The Tigers opened the Grapefruit League schedule with a 2-1 win over Atlanta yesterday afternoon. Jose Ortega (1-0) picked up the win for Detroit, while Jose Alvarez closed out the game for the save. Tyler Collins led the Tigers with a double and triple, while Jeff Kobernus added a run-scoring triple. WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC PARTICIPANTS: The following five players from Detroit’s major league camp have been selected to participate in the World Baseball Classic: righthanded pitchers Octavio Dotel (Dominican Republic), Shawn Hill (Canada) and Anibal Sanchez (Venezuela), second baseman Omar Infante (Venezuela) and third baseman Miguel Cabrera (Venezuela). Righthanded pitcher Warwick Saupold (Australia) and infielder Cale Iorg (Canada) will depart Detroit’s minor league camp to participate in this year’s World Baseball Classic. TRIO OF TIGERS NAMED TO BASEBALL AMERICA’S TOP 100 PROSPECTS: Three Tigers have been named to Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list this spring: third baseman/outfielder Nick Castellanos (#21), outfielder Avisail Garcia (#74) and righthanded pitcher Bruce Rondon (#95).
